24.01.2022 ... and we went out one time onto one mountain all the way and nobody knew we went. (W. S. Merwin)... Well... this was probably true until we started playing the pipes. Then everybody knew we went.
24.01.2022 It's been so long since we have been able to share new material with you all, but this week we have a special treat. Joel has found some footage of the band playing at Salamanca Markets in 1979, playing either Skye Boat Song or the Outlander Theme (depending on your Netflix preferences). Are there any band or audience members you recognise? #derwentscottish
23.01.2022 Well what a day the 25th Richmond Highland Gathering was! We had beautiful weather, lots of spectators from far and wide popping in, fabulous vendors, amazing ...entertainers, wonderful Highland dancing competitions and sizzling competition and music in the pipe band competition. It truly was a day of many smiles, personal achievements and wonderful friendships. It is humbling to have so many people travel long distances for this event and we thank everyone who has supported this event not only this year, but every year and ensuring it's steady growth and success. 23.01.2022 Happy International Women’s Day to all the special women in our lives. Because: what would we do without you all!?!
22.01.2022 My guess is that these photos are dated around 1976 to 1978. In one we see Pipe Major Robin Livingstone with Piper Malcolm Gow behind and Piper Svend Madsen in the third row. Behind Sven is Tenor Drummer Bernie Manser. The other picture of PM Robin Livingstone is of course at the Hobart Cenotaph. I played the Lament there for many years in succession.
16.01.2022 It’s always a pleasure to play for the Royal Yacht Club of Tasmania at their annual Opening Day! Thanks to Gemma and RYCT for these photos. #derwentscottish
16.01.2022 Here are some photos of a combined Derwent Scottish and Tasmanian Police Pipe Bands performance at Salamanca Markets to commemorate VP Day today.
15.01.2022 Yesterday Nicholas was spotted playing outside the Sorell RSL to commemorate VP Day. #derwentscottish
15.01.2022 Aaaaand we’re back!
13.01.2022 At 11am Nicholas joined the simultaneous playing of Amazing Grace in his back paddock for the Sorell community. This would have been a video, but the footage is filled with a 4yo and nearly 2yo singing what they think are the lyrics... #derwentscottish
11.01.2022 This evening the band kick-started the return to playing with recently appointed Pipe Major Rick Baxter leading a performance at the Longley International Hotel for their Burning of the Virus. Here is a teaser of how it went, with undoubtedly more photos to follow. #derwentscottish
10.01.2022 Here is a photo of Danny McDonald playing in the solo piping comp at Campbeltown around 1962. Danny was one of the best pipers Tassie produced. Anyone like to get a fix on the year? Maybe band minutes showing his Lance corporal status?
09.01.2022 Rick and Joel participated in some ANZAC Day piping at Hobart’s cenotaph today. How good is this?! #derwentscottish
07.01.2022 And some more photos of the combined Derwent Scottish and Tasmanian Police Pipe Bands VP Day performance at Salamanca Markets. #derwentscottish

07.01.2022 Footage of the Burning of the Virus performance a few weeks ago has emerged and captures a fabulous night of entertainment. The band features from 1:28 onwards. #derwentscottish
05.01.2022 Congratulations to our very own Gary Webb for his Pipe Bands Australia 2020 Education and Training award!
02.01.2022 Here is a gallery of pipers, drummers and drum majors participating in ANZAC Day services across Tasmania. We have already shared a photo of Nicholas and a video of Rick and Joel, but can anyone spot a sneaky Randall in the album?
