01.01.2022 This morning the film crew for The Minnie Berrington Project came and had a look through our shop, which back in its day was the site of Andamooka’s original post office with postmistress Minnie Berrington. I loved listening to some of the history of Andamooka, most of which I didn’t know, and learning more and more about Minnie who is absolutely fascinating! Can’t wait to see the documentary when it’s finished. How different does the shop look from then to now! We’ve poured... our hearts and souls into transforming it into Desert Threadz. Feeling pretty proud to be in a building with such history and charm in our little town In 1926, an adventurous and fiercely independent Minnie Berrington leaves her commonplace life as a typist in London for the harsh and unforgiving deserts of the outback, becoming South Australia's first female opal miner and postmistress. Our documentary explores the struggles of being a single woman in an isolated environment and celebrates the tenacity, self-determination and the joys of being an adventurer. Minnie is an Australian pioneer, and yet she is a mystery - her story untold.
