22.01.2022 "As designers, we are so well-trained to look at our customers, and empathise so deeply with them. So, why is it so difficult for us to employ this same empathy with our peers?" We spoke at #SDNOW4's Pre-Conference Series this September on the topic of diversity and inclusion, and how as a society we can move forward to make a change. #ServiceDesignMelbourne #DesignThinkingGames #DesignPlayers #PlayinProgress

20.01.2022 Last weekend, #DesignThinkingGames hosted our first Design Jam for Mental Health, in partnership with our #socialimpact partner Smiling Mind. A huge thank you to our generous partners Shout For Good, Academy Xi Melbourne, and YBF Ventures. This successful design jam wouldn't be possible without their generosity. It was amazing to see our Design Players start their journey together with us to learn and apply design thinking skills towards making a difference and create an impact in the society we live in.
20.01.2022 Homelessness is believed to have skyrocketed 72 per cent in the past five years, with approximately 1100 Victorians sleeping rough across the state (source: The Age). Last year, we collaborated with the Victorian Department of Premier and Cabinet to explore and discover the different dimensions of Homelessness. It is easy to detach and disregard, but this can happen to anyone of us. With a little empathy, we can take the first step to help our fellow Victorians. ... 20.01.2022 With experience working in a team and on her own as the only designer, our co-founder @mrs.evontan joined @Academy_Xi's panel to discuss and explore the benefits of a solo UX designer vs a UX design team. On the question of her experience, Evon shared: 1. Always communicate! Build your communication skills to explain your process, design direction, and bring everyone along the journey... 2. Learn to be adaptable and flexible to learn new processes 3. Be a learner. Everyone in the team, especially non-designers, has a unique perspective that helps us to rethink about what we know Have you faced any challenges about working alone or in a team? Need some advice or tips? Send us a note at [email protected] or slide in our DMs. We'd love to help out! #DesignThinkingGames #PlayinProgress
20.01.2022 Episode 5 is a wrap! Last Tuesday, our #DesignPlayers kickstarted the conversation of how we can prevent bullying in the workplace with Design Thinking Games. With innovative ideas from awareness campaigns to creative products that protect your anonymity, our main takeaway is to create an environment where everyone can be comfortable and feel safe to speak up, especially during difficult times! Bullying comes in many faces, but together, we can make a difference. A huge thank... you to our #DesignPlayers and Australia Post for supporting our movement. #DesignwithPurpose #DesignforChange #DesignThinkingGames

18.01.2022 As we advocate for social causes, we want to start a dialogue on real and complex issues that affect us as a society and humanity. Our co-founder, Evon Tan shared her insights and thoughts at Academy Xi's panel event on Human Centred Design for Everyday Life a couple of months back. She talked about how Human Centred Design can help us make sense of things, frame our outlook and eventually, solve a problem. Using one of our episodes as a case study, Evon shared about our expe...rience with using Human Centred Design on a social issue like Homelessness. We thought we'd share a couple of takeaways from the amazing Evon: 1. Each of us have a different experience, be it culture, community. 2. We often have our own perspective and it forms the lens through which we look. 3. Like it or not, we all have preconceived notions, biases of what we think the world is like. What are your thoughts? Share with us! #DesignThinkingGames #PlayinProgress

13.01.2022 Unconscious biases contribute to the stereotypes that are so ingrained in many of us. Although seemingly innocuous, this symbolic disparity contributes to an ongoing unconscious bias in society that women are less equal than men (Source: news.com.au) This Thursday we will be exploring how we can be mindful of the unconscious biases towards gender equality at Design Thinking Games Episode 6 with role models Susan Brown and Jessica Box from Girls in Tech - Australia. ... 12.01.2022 We have to be honest the world doesn’t belong to us. The world belongs to our children. It isn’t enough to just listen, it is our responsibility to empower the future generation to have the courage to make a change. We need this change, as humans and to save our planet. There is still hope, but we need to act now. We are incredibly thrilled to invite our little thinkers to join us in a kids-only design jam on the current climate crisis. We will be teaching and taking your c...hildren through the design thinking process, and help them to embrace their natural instincts and creativity. *** Special thanks to Huddle, for generously sharing their safe and cosy environment to host our little thinkers. Not forgetting our dream team behind the scenes: Evon Tan, Jason Gieng, Elaine Tan, Peter Barber, Doreen Heng, Stephanie Maynard, Jenny Yan, Monique Aronica and Luke McManus. *** #Design #DesignThinking #DesignPlayers #ActNow #KidsOnly #DesignJamforKids #ClimateCrisis #SavethePlanet #Environment

11.01.2022 Last week was World Mental Health Day | Many organisations (us, too) have advocated for and tried to create safe spaces to start the conversation around difficult conversations like Mental Health. We recognise that it is still, unavoidably, a struggle to find our voices when things are rough. It is hard not to feel alone. 1 in 4 people in the world at some point in their lives, experiences with mental illness (Source: World Health Organization (WHO)). Even famous thinkers/le...aders like Ernest Hemingway, Abraham Lincoln and Princess Diana. Earlier this year, we had a Design Thinking Games session exploring living in the age of loneliness where technology is increasingly ubiquitous. We understand that we can't blame technology for human behaviour, but we also acknowledge that we can use technology for good. Seek help, share your unabashedly honest stories (even, anonymously), and know that you are never alone. #DesignThinkingGames #DesignPlayers #PlayinProgress #WorldMentalHealthDay2019 http://letstalkaboutmentalhealth.com/

07.01.2022 Join our Design Players next Tuesday, 5th June 17:30 at Australia Post as we explore how we can identify toxic behaviours and make a difference to prevent workplace bullying with #DesignThinkingGames. Almost 75% of employees have experienced workplace bullying at one point in their career. It is prevalent and increasingly common. Bullying comes in many forms -- we are here to take the first step and start the conversation. #DesignwithPurpose #DesignforChange #DesignPlayers
07.01.2022 Design Thinking Games is all about empowering you to solve social problems and change the world with design thinking. We curate engaging and meaningful games that create awareness on issues like family violence, homelessness, loneliness and many many more. We truly believe in doing our part to give back to the community. Are there any topics that you think we should focus on next? 07.01.2022 This year, our annual Design Jam for Mental Health was focused on the Age of Loneliness. A topic that resonated with many of us, we worked through this fuzzy problem space on how we can reframe and use technology for good instead in a full-day design thinking jam. From homely meals to social media applications, the purpose is one and the same, we are all looking to foster a meaningful connection. It was a beautiful day of rumination and learning to be empathetic, vulnerable... with our fellow humans. We hope it was as rewarding for you as it was for us. If you are interested to join our cause, get in touch with us at [email protected] #DesignThinkingGames #PlayinProgress
06.01.2022 On 3 November 2018, Design Thinking Games was proud to host and sponsor the first ever Global Childrens Designathon in Australia. Alongside 1,000 little humans across 30 different cities, we worked together through a design-thinking session on how we can save life on land, and reduce our impact to deforestation. We designed our curriculum with an emphasis of Design Thinking Games play-approach to stimulate our younger generation to think different and embrace their creativi...ty. Their unbridled excitement and enthusiasm were palpable and many of us were left in awe of the ideas that emerged in a couple of hours. One of our favourites is Ecomeeshaya (a mash of Meesha & Inaya, our young thinkers), a sustainable community where humans can live with minimal impact on the environment. Ecomeeshaya has three main features: a floating house (think: floating treehouse), underwater homes and underground highways. All aimed to provide the comforts of modern living with almost no disruption to the environment. Our second event with our little humans was nothing short of inspiring. If you are interested to join our cause or your little ones are keen to experience one of our sessions, get in touch with us at [email protected] :) #DesignThinkingGames #PlayinProgress

04.01.2022 Two weeks ago, we embraced our vulnerability and reflected on our role in Gender Equality. Are we the protagonist? Or are we just the protagonist in our own story? Inequality is a deep-seeded and systemic issue with so many faces. But, a little awareness and mindfulness of some of our own biases can help us change the narrative of the real story. And thats when it happened. We stopped looking up, to those in power, and started looking around at the women standing beside u...s from different backgrounds, working in different sectors, of different ethnicities, with different stories and realized our strength is in our diversity not our singularity, and the power that we need to claim is our own. - TIME ( http://time.com//women-leading-fight-equality-sexual-hara/) Thank you Girls in Tech, Culture Amp and our #DesignPlayers for joining our movement to change the world with design. #DesignwithPurpose #DesignforChange
03.01.2022 To our new Design Players (and regulars), hi and welcome!! We are a group of Experience Designers, who started Design Thinking Games with one single purpose -- start a movement that empowers people to solve social problems and change the world with design thinking. Beyond that, we want to foster meaningful outcomes in a safe and exploratory space. We have and will keep trying to honour our promise to making everyone feel safe and welcome.... And of course, we would love for you to join us on our journey!! #DesignThinkingGames #DesignPlayers #DesignwithPurpose #PlayinProgress

02.01.2022 Co-founder/designer Elaine shared her first and very personal account on being an asian, introverted, female in a very non-diverse workplace The tech industry has championed diversity and inclusion so much in recent years, idealising these values with little to no tangible results. The threshold for achieving diversity today, it appears, is to meet a statistical quota of hire, and nothing more. It sounds so critical and disparaging, because in reality, it really is that bad.... To fully understand what can be done, we must first acknowledge that there is a problem. Before we deepen our ethical practices and look to further increase the impact of design on our societies, we have to first look at how we are behaving on a micro level. Have we given our fellow humans the basic respect to be heard? #SDNOW4 #ServiceDesignMelbourne
02.01.2022 Australia has made great strides towards achieving gender equality in recent years. Women on the boards of ASX 200 listed companies has grown from 8.3% in 2009 to 26.2% in 2018. (Source: Australian Human Rights Commission) But...is it enough? This 16th of August, we will be exploring how we can be mindful of our unconscious biases towards gender equality in Episode 6 with our role models, Susan Brown and Jessica Box from Girls in Tech - Australia. Join us and our Design Playe...rs as we delve into the problem space that so closely speaks to everyone of us. Get ready to design and make a difference!

02.01.2022 Close to 2 million Australians have an osteoporosis-related condition (that is 1 in every 10 of us).
