23.01.2022 Chris Carter’s latest in the Robert Hunter series is one big thrill ride. Written In Blood may not be as good as his previous novels, I believe The Caller and The Death Sculpture to be his best. But if you are looking for something that is fast paced, full of bodies and appreciate gore, then this one is for you. My only problem with Chris Carter is that he only writes one book a year. I wish he would just become as prolific as James Patterson. - Rachel

06.01.2022 Beautifully illustrated novel about Freddy’s relationship with her on/off girlfriend Laura Dean. Freddy loves Laura Dean but she keeps finding Laura in other girls’ arms and getting her heart broken again and again. During the relationship Freddy becomes a worse and worse friend to Doodle, her best friend, as she becomes more consumed by Laura’s orbit. I really enjoyed seeing a fictional gay relationship where the focus wasn’t on the sexual orientation of the couple but on the relationship’s effect on the main character. I finished it in one reading and would definitely recommend this to others. Crystal
05.01.2022 The Tasmanian Archives (a part of Libraries Tasmania), and Tasmanian Museum and Art Gallery (TMAG), are partnering to collect Tasmanians' experiences of the COVID-19 pandemic. We are reaching out across Tasmania to collect photographs, writing and a variety of objects to ensure that a selection of stories and experiences associated with this extraordinary event are preserved into the future. What has life been like for you? How has social isolation affected the people you kno...w? How is your community changing and adapting now and for the long-term? Your contributions will help capture this moment to help future generations understand the Tasmanian experience of the pandemic. Send your submission to: [email protected]
04.01.2022 Who doesn’t enjoy a good horror story? Nothing too gory but something that gives you the shivers and the creeps? There is nothing better on a wet weekend to sit down and read a story to thoroughly entertain you, and this one did for me. Snuggled under a blanket listening to the rain, I was fully absorbed with scarecrows that move in the dark and the so-called smiling man. Eleven year old Ollie is dealing with the death of her mother. After another horrendous day at school she... comes across a woman trying to throw a book into the local creek. Ollie (who hates the thought of the sacrilege) snatches the book, goes home, and reads about a young woman who falls in love with a man who makes a deal with the smiling man. The book is a diary warning her relatives to watch out for this spectre and to find small spaces. Ollie goes on a school excursion the next day to a farm, sees the woman who tried to drown the diary and the graves of the people she has been reading about. On the way home from the farm the bus breaks down and Ollie is warned not only by the driver of the bus but also her digital watch, to run. As dusk falls, Ollie leaves with a couple of friends into the woods, with the warning not only from the driver but also from the diary to keep to small spaces. The adventure then begins. This story reminded me to R L Stines Goosebumps series, but this book had a lot more empathy for its characters. It touches upon grief, bullying, parental reversal roles and acceptance. This book is aimed at Young Adults, but I believe 12yo plus would enjoy this story, it’s a great one to read just before Halloween. - Rachel See more
