23.01.2022 The Veteran and Community Grants (V&CG) program provides funding for projects that aim to improve the health and wellbeing of the Australian veteran community. This year, applications for practical projects and activities that support safe, accessible environments for veterans and their families to enable social connection and positive engagement to improve wellbeing are being encouraged. Projects could include improvements that make community spaces safer and more ...accessible, equipment that will enable COVID-safe activities, or assistance to connect online. Organisations are encouraed to closely review the V&CG 2020-21 Grant Opportunity Guidelines before submitting an application, to ensure the proposed project is eligible. There have been some changes to the process this year. 22.01.2022 So what exactly is a Talent Bank in an job application system? These tend to be set up like a non-specific job advert; they allow people interested in working for an organisation to provide their details even if there isn’t a current vacancy. What this allows organisations to do is when they have a new position available their first step is to search their system for potential candidates, this saves the organisation both time and money, they can move directly to interview sta...ge without incurring the additional cost of advertising. 21.01.2022 FOR THOSE POSTING SOON Peak posting season is stressful we all know that. This year is no different, however we have all had to face so many additional chall...enges we didn’t really think were possible prior to 2020. Many of us have been separated from partners and family and in some cases, some of us have spent too much time with partners and family! What we do know, is that Defence and those organisations that support Defence are all working hard behind the scenes to move ADF members and their families around the country in the safest way possible. Families are being asked to be extra patient in 2020 after what has seemed to have been an extra-long year to be patient in. We are still living through a pandemic with uncertainty. The priority is the safety of ADF members, families and the broader public. We are also potentially facing another summer of adverse weather conditions, so it is important that members and their families are moved safely and quickly. Everyone’s situation is different - where you are coming from and where you are going to. Do you have pets, do you have special needs? What do you need to move? There are also many rules and regulations set by states and territories that need to be followed. Getting to your destination as quickly as possible may mean that you may be directed to fly, this is to minimise your travel time and avoid hotspots that could develop while you travel. Those on the other end of the phone line are also working hard to do their jobs across often very tight time frames. Your first point of call for your individual movement is TOLL. Please contact your TOLL Case Manager or the TOLL Service Centre on 1800 819 167 Link to previous Defence Community Organisation webinar series https://www.defence.gov.au/DCO/webinar.asp Contact us if you need us to advocate for you. www.dfa.org.au Frequently Asked Questions about posting (recently updated) https://www.defence.gov.au//F/Posting-cycle-20-21-FAQs.pdf #PostingSeason #WorkTogether #BeKind #BePatient #Flexibility #BeGone2020 #COVID19 #LetsDoThis

09.01.2022 Our friends at the ADF Consumer Centre have come up with some ways to survive the festive season when it comes to money. #DefenceFamilies #Budgets #ThinkAhead https://adfconsumer.gov.au/surviving-festive-season/

08.01.2022 From our National Convenor: I hope you are able to celebrate Christmas according to your plans. I have every finger and toe crossed that the borders stay open so I can see my family and friends interstate. For a while there I just didn’t want to think about Christmas as I didn’t want to get my hopes up. Now with just a few weeks to go I think it’s really going to happen. I am starting make lists of things to pack. I love a good list so this feels like a normal thing to do. An...d doing something normal feels so good. We all just need a break, don’t we? I was listening to a podcast recently and the presenter said in the beginning COVID felt like something that was just going to inconvenience our lives for a few weeks. How silly does that notion seem now? For the last few months here in the DFA team we’ve been really mindful of being kind to one another as our tanks are getting low. We’re dealing with misunderstandings quickly and with grace so we can move on united and celebrating successes. This is really important as there is still so much advocacy going on right now around moves. We know this moving cycle is different and hard. We are in regular contact with the PCMCC (Posting Cell) to feed back what families are saying and to get an update from them on processes. We are going to operate at reduced staffing levels for a couple of weeks around Christmas so we can fill up our tanks a bit, but there will always be someone available for advocacy. We have sadly said goodbye to two of our National Delegates in the latter part of this year, which is always hard. I have heard many of the team say DFA is a passion job for them, meaning it’s way more than just a way to earn money. We care about what’s happening for you because this is our life too. Wishing you laughter, safety, and time to do something that fills your tank. Take care, Maree

08.01.2022 In case you missed the recent webinar on preparing for posting during COVID19, it is available to view by following the link provided below

05.01.2022 Years ago, we were preparing for another posting and I was complaining to a defence partner friend that yet again I wouldn’t be able to put my Christmas tree up and how sad it made me. She looked at me, laughed and said why can’t you? I proceeded to say, well it’s the last thing I want to do with packing and little kids and just the general chaos of moving. The next day she arrived on my doorstep with a farewell present. A small, pre-decorated tree with battery powered ligh...ts. We were travelling with our caravan and it was truly the perfect size. We’ve put it up every year since regardless of posting or not. It’s the tree you have when you don’t really have time for a tree. It packs into a small bag as is. It gives me joy and reminds me of the kindness of a dear friend who just ‘got it’ all those years ago. We’d love to see your Christmas trees in the comments. What traditions do you have at this time of the year?
