24.01.2022 This week is Legacy Week. Legacy Australia is an amazing charity that cares for the families of veterans, who gave their life or health serving our country. Ear...lier this week I caught up with Jacky Gavin and Gwen Cherne, to talk about how Legacy has helped them and their young families. It’s been nearly 9 years since Jacky’s husband Lance Corporal Luke Gavin was killed on operations in Afghanistan and three years since Gwen’s husband Sergeant Peter Jon Cafe took his own life after returning from service. The courage and strength of these women and their families is truly inspirational. Father’s Day this Sunday is going to be particularly hard for them and their children, Joshua, Holly and Olivia and Thomas, Emily and Lachlan, but it’s a chance to honour Luke and Peter’s legacy. Due to #COVID19, Legacy’s Badge Day fundraising efforts have had to move online this year so you won’t see the usual badge sellers out and about. If you’re able to, please consider donating at www.legacyweek.com.au #LegacyWeek

24.01.2022 Do you have to quarantine on posting? Does the thought of this terrify you? Not so according to Katie who has kindly written a blog post on her experience in quarantining with 3 children under 5. ... From Katie... 'Supermarket orders are worth organising. My kids are like fruit bats, but we only get 1 fresh piece of fruit a day so that definitely went on our order. The meals only come between certain times and my kids are snack queens, so adding all their favourite snacks to the order made life easier. Then there was also the problem of the kids not liking what was served. ' Read more of Katie's tips for quarantining. https://dfa.org.au/2020/09/22/quarantine-2020-style/ #DefenceFamilies #DefenceLife #Quarantine2020 #Posting #QuarantineLife #FightClub #WineWasConsumed

16.01.2022 FOR THOSE POSTING SOON Peak posting season is stressful we all know that. This year is no different, however we have all had to face so many additional challenges we didn’t really think were possible prior to 2020. Many of us have been separated from partners and family and in some cases, some of us have spent too much time with partners and family!... What we do know, is that Defence and those organisations that support Defence are all working hard behind the scenes to move ADF members and their families around the country in the safest way possible. Families are being asked to be extra patient in 2020 after what has seemed to have been an extra-long year to be patient in. We are still living through a pandemic with uncertainty. The priority is the safety of ADF members, families and the broader public. We are also potentially facing another summer of adverse weather conditions, so it is important that members and their families are moved safely and quickly. Everyone’s situation is different - where you are coming from and where you are going to. Do you have pets, do you have special needs? What do you need to move? There are also many rules and regulations set by states and territories that need to be followed. Getting to your destination as quickly as possible may mean that you may be directed to fly, this is to minimise your travel time and avoid hotspots that could develop while you travel. Those on the other end of the phone line are also working hard to do their jobs across often very tight time frames. Your first point of call for your individual movement is TOLL. Please contact your TOLL Case Manager or the TOLL Service Centre on 1800 819 167 Defence Community Organisation is holding another webinar tomorrow night (Thursday)... An ADF families webinar: Posting during COVID-19Managing quarantine This will be an opportunity to ask questions about moving. https://www.facebook.com/events/737326123529171 Contact us if you need us to advocate for you. www.dfa.org.au Frequently Asked Questions about posting (recently updated) https://www.defence.gov.au//F/Posting-cycle-20-21-FAQs.pdf #PostingSeason #WorkTogether #BeKind #BePatient #Flexibility #BeGone2020 #COVID19 #LetsDoThis

14.01.2022 FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS - ADF PEAK POSTING CYCLE 2020-2021 What if I become ill while travelling?... The 1800 IMSICK 1800 467 425 helpline remains the principle helpline for all medical support including if you begin to display COVID-19 symptoms or have travelled through a COVID-19 community transmission area (hotspot) as part of your relocation. If a family member becomes unwell with COVID-19 symptoms during transit, your family should seek medical assistance at nearest possible civilian medical facility and follow all directions provided by medical staff. You must inform your Chain of Command as soon as practical and your TOLL Case Manager in the event that amendments to your travel plan are required. 14.01.2022 FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS (FAQS) FOR POSTING THIS YEAR Why is it taking so long for TOLL to respond to my Application for Relocation (AFR)? Defence requested members submit their AFRs no later than 30 Sep 20. ... The bulk of the ADF has complied with this request. As such TOLL is currently processing approximately 50-60 per cent more AFRs compared to the number of AFRs submitted at the same time last year. These requests are being prioritised by posting date, and therefore it may take some time for TOLL to allocate a Case Manager for those removals occurring later in the posting cycle. From 30 Oct 20 TOLL advised that they have completed AFRs for the Nov period. For members who requested a relocation over the period 1-10 Dec you will be assigned a case manager as a priority within 2 weeks. For members who requested relocation from 11-19 Dec you will be allocated a case manager in less than 5 weeks. For the remainder relocating over the period 20 Dec31 Jan a case manager will be assigned in 5 weeks. The FAQs have recently been updated. https://www.defence.gov.au//F/Posting-cycle-20-21-FAQs.pdf If you need DFA to advocate on your behalf please contact your local delegate. https://dfa.org.au/contact/

11.01.2022 For many in WA, this Father’s Day may seem a lot like any other. But for those with family on the other side of the Nullarbor and overseas today their loved o...nes might feel a little further away. It’s tough. My Dad, Mum and Brother live in New South Wales. Like many other Western Australians, I haven’t been able see family in person since the start of the pandemic. It’s been difficult but we manage. I keep in touch with my parents we chat twice a week on the phone as they haven’t quite figured out how to use Zoom. I’ll be giving my dad a call today and telling him how much I miss him. I know we’re doing the right thing when it comes to the hard border. But I know that doesn’t make it any easier on the families that are split across borders. This virus is unpredictable. Things can change quickly and I don’t want to add to the heartbreak with false hope. It’s tough enough already. But I promise the hard border won’t stay any longer than the health advice says it has to. 2020 has been hard but Western Australians are tough and we’ve done amazingly well so far. Happy Father’s Day, WA. Stay safe and have a good one.
