23.01.2022 If you are expecting a new bundle of joy, firstly wed like to say a big congratulations to you and your family! Secondly, wed like to mention a few oral health tips to help you get through the rest of your pregnancy without having to worry about any unexpected dental issues! Did you know that when youre pregnant there are hormones that collect in the fluid around the teeth and gums? These hormones can unfortunately cause physical changes that can lead to gingivitis. To aid... this inevitable hormonal shift, we advise that you maintain a healthy oral hygiene regime that involves brushing your teeth twice a day, flossing once a day, and also coming in for a visit or two during your pregnancy to have a routine check-up and clean. During your pregnancy, you may find it trickier to brush the back teeth comfortably and without triggering a gagging reflex. This is another great reason to make sure that you arrange an appointment to have a check-up and clean, so that we can assist you in ensuring that your oral hygiene is in great shape. Keep in mind however, if you have been experiencing some morning sickness, be sure to wait at least 30 minutes after youve been sick before brushing your teeth. When were sick, we can bring up a lot of acid from the stomach, which consequently pools around the teeth. Brushing your teeth straight after this acid exposure will cause damage and wear to the teeth. Lastly, if youre feeling peckish for some sweets during your pregnancy, try reaching for the fruit bowl rather than the treats cupboard. Your teeth will thank you for it!

23.01.2022 Today we would like to talk about a method to reduce dental anxiety. Or anxiety in general. To accommodate our busy schedule, most of us are relying on a pathway that supports our sympathetic system. This creates a lot of stress, leaving us constantly on a fight-or-flight mode. Through a simple method, we can switch back to our parasympathetic nervous system which soothes, restores and recharges; and bring back a sense of coherence and harmony.

For our lovely neighbour across the road at Beaudesert Road Surgery, we hope you enjoy some Krispy Kreme doughnuts on us; and also our reservoir of 1500 masks. Hope this comes in handy for safety of your staff members, sick patients, vulnerable and immunocompromised patients. Our surgery activity is limited for the time being, but will continue to source stock for those in need.

17.01.2022 Did you know that despite being largely preventable; tooth decay is among the most common diseases in Australia? Did you also know that this week is #DentalHealthWeek? This year for Dental health week, the Australian Dental Association is using the catch phrase #watchyourmouth, because taking care of your teeth isn't just about brushing-there are so many ways we can watch our mouths to prevent tooth decay. Here are some great ways to #watchyourmouth: 1. Brush twice a day with... a fluoride toothpaste 2. Clean between your teeth daily with floss 3. Eat nutritious and balanced meals and limit snacking 4. Visit your dentist regularly for professional cleans and exams To get you started, here is a great video from the ADA about pro tips for brushing!

15.01.2022 Life can be hectic at times! Especially with the busy tax time approaching and the shorter winter days, time seems to pass within a blink of an eye! One of the best things that you can do to get through these busy seasons is to simply take care of yourself. Prioritising your self-care, especially your oral hygiene, will help to ensure that you are refreshed and ready to tackle busy days (whilst also avoiding potential emergency dental appointments that may interrupt your busy... schedule!). Here are some tips to help ensure that you dont have any nasty dental issues creeping up during this busy season: 1. Prioritise brushing your teeth twice a day for at least 2 minutes, and flossing at least once a day! Good oral hygiene is the cornerstone for optimal dental health. By doing these simple things (that will take only 5 minutes out of your day), you are providing yourself with the best chance of preventing any unwanted dental issues! 2. Slow down on the sugary food to help prevent any unwanted caries and decay forming. Sugar feeds the bacteria within our mouths that contribute to the presence of decay. Reducing your sugar exposure will help to minimise your decay risk exponentially! 3. Maintain a regular dental check-up and clean routine (once every 6 months). Prevention is better than cure! Visiting us twice a year for your routine check-up and clean will help to rule out any potential areas of concern before they turn into unwanted issues. Feel free to book an appointment online with us via this link If you're due for your next check-up and clean https://dentalhc.com.au/ 4. Stay hydrated! Not only will this help you to stay focused throughout the day, itll also help your teeth stay within a healthy saliva environment (another great way to prevent pesky dental problems!) We hope that these simple tips help you to get through the busy days ahead! Have a great weekend!

05.01.2022 Just a reminder that Dental Health Centre will be closed for the Brisbane Ekka public holiday on Wednesday the 15th of August 2018. 05.01.2022 Happy Saturday! We hope youre all enjoying the beautiful weather that this weekend is bringing! Somethings to keep in mind over the weekend are your eating habits and dental health. Its easy for us to break the usual Monday to Friday routine and indulge over the weekend. We all deserve a treat! However, it is also important to be conscious of the food and drink that you eat, and how they can potentially affect your teeth. Here are some simple tips to remember: ... 1. Drink lots of water! Keeping your hydration up not only makes you feel great, but itll also help to improve the quality of your saliva and flush out any food debris throughout the day! Youll also be giving your teeth a healthy dose of fluoride if you drink tap water. 2. Be mindful of your snacking habits. Again without the usual weekday routine, it can become easier for us to reach into the snack cupboard a little more frequently over the weekend. This is all good and well, but just remember to have a drink of water after snacking to flush out any food debris. 3. Be cautious of acidic and sugary foods. Food and drink such as sweets, fruit, and soda can be damaging to our teeth if were not careful. Enjoy these foods in moderation, and again, be mindful of your snacking habits and water intake! If we maintain a healthy and balanced diet that allows for these treats in moderation and stay hydrated with water, then we will be providing our teeth with the utmost care and tooth decay prevention! Enjoy the rest of your weekend!

03.01.2022 We all know sugar should be avoided to keep our teeth healthy, but did you know that sugar is also a leading cause of Coronary Artery Disease? This describes a build up of toxic fat which clogs your arteries; depriving your vital organs of oxygen. This lack of oxygen over time is what causes chronic diseases such as cardiovascular diseases and diabetes. So avoid these drinks (and other sources of sugar) not only for your teeth, but for your longevity. You'll see the benefits in every aspect of your health!
