25.01.2022 Putting the "Australia" into Diamond Lawn & Garden Australia. Boys have hit Gladstone and going hard. We have some cracking lads working with us. Big day ahead!

25.01.2022 Hello guys. My new page was shut down as it was in the wrong format. Would you all be so kind and share and invite friends to like this page also. Many thanks, Nathan.

21.01.2022 Diamond Lawn and Garden Australia is a rapidly expanding, local company that offers horticultural services to private residences, body corporate clients, government departments and commercial premises throughout Central Queensland. Another casual position has become open for an energetic, EXPERIENCED lawn maintenance operator. Experience in a similar environment IS A MUST. Must be enthusiastic, reliable and willing to work in all weather conditions. This could lead to a mo...re permanent position for the right applicant. For further details, please email your resume to [email protected]. please DO NOT private message our Facebook page.

20.01.2022 Weeds /prickles in lawns. Its one of the most requested tasks for us and unfortunately, the solution isnt so simple. Grab a coffee and read on, then share/tag. Theres a number of products on the market to spray the weeds and keep the grass ok. Theyre called selective herbicides and theres one for each specific type of grass; be it couch l, or a buffalo variety such as Sir Walter. ... The trouble is, by the time most people realise they have a prickly problem, its nearly too late. The prickle is the seed. The spray kills the plant. Other than burning or vacuuming, theres no physical way of getting rid of prickles. Get used to your shoes having an extra layer for a while. The spray I have mentioned will assist in killing the plant itself. It will assist in breaking the cycle. That being said, you cant spray once and its all done. Those prickles which we know are seeds, will germinate and continue to do so for quite sometime. Can you imagine how many there are?? Your thongs have found only a few. This is why I am reluctant to offer this spray service. This process is most certainly an ongoing one. The spray needs to be applied via a sprayer that hasnt had roundup* in it (unless washed out extremely well). The spray should be applied every 3/4 weeks. It should be applied as per directions or you risk killing your grass. Dont double dose it, or you will cause a lot of damage. Spray it and dont water the lawn for 24 hours after. Dont mow either 4 days prior to, or after spraying. The chemical goes in through the leaf. Mowing the grass first, will remove the leaves and therefore the plants ability to absorb the chemical. The process doesnt end there. All weeds are opportunistic plants. Theyll thrive if you allow them. Theyll take a strong hold if able. They will take advantage of a stressed lawn and spread from there. People with no weeds dont spend time or money or effort on weed control. They spend time on a healthy lawn. A healthy lawn, regardless of type, wont allow prickles to invade or indeed spread. They key to a healthy lawn?? We can talk dethatching, soil structure, airating, too much sun, tree roots underneath..... but 90% of a healthy lawn is WATER. Constant and consistent watering. Good, deep soakings 2/3 times a week. Fertilise 3-4 times in the growing season (preferable during or just before rain). This watering, combined with the aforementioned spray schedule, and youll go a long way to having a lawn that you can go outside and enjoy, rather than hate because the dogs and kids cant go outside without coming back looking like a lamington.

18.01.2022 A quick thank you to all my clients that support me through recommendations on facebook community pages. Its a sign of the times that a lot of business is won and lost on here and because of your efforts, Im obtaining more of the CH market share. Once again, I really appreciate, not only our ongoing working relationships but also your efforts to keep me busy. Have a great week. ... Nathan. See more

16.01.2022 Do you or a friend have a vacant property thats been sitting without a tenant for some time? I have a concept to assist you in potentially obtaining that elusive tenant a lot quicker. As you know, youre currently competing with tens, if not hundreds of similar properties in the same market. Its time to take action and try a new marketing strategy. Please consider this concept..... Lets face it, youd possibly be willing to take $20 a week less to secure a tenant. What if ...you keep it at the current rate but offered free lawn maintenance, it would put your investment out of the pack. For the same cost as the discount, your tenant would have gardens maintained throughout the year. Lets not forget that this small cost is fully tax deductible so essentially youre only about $10 a week out of pocket. Another advantage is that it wouldnt be totally overgrown at the end of the tenancy. That broken sprinkler that has caused your once nice, green lawn become a patchy mess of weeds will no longer be an issue. Im a qualified horticulturist and fully insured. I offer great, reliable service and very reasonable rates. If the above sounds worthy of consideration or if you know of a friend that would be interested, please get in touch with us and we can speak more specifically about your needs. NB: the above figures are a guide only and all rates would be pending an obligation free quote. Have a great day.

15.01.2022 Could prove to be an ideal time to go and buy some fertilizer. Be cautious to match the right kind with the right plant. Natives need low phosphorus. ... Lawns like high amounts of nitrogen such as urea. Go grab some and be ready to run around just before it.... Just before it..... I wont jinx us.

15.01.2022 A new edition to the fleet. A lawn dethatcher to improve the health of your buffalo lawn.

09.01.2022 This is a tree that, to the untrained eye, looked OK from looking at it. Inside it was full of large longicorn larvae and fungal disease. Certain species are more susceptible than others and nearly always, there are telltale signs to a trained eye, suggesting the tree is about to cause you drama. Fortunately this mornings tree was only small and whilst it was near a building, was leaning the other way. No damage occurred. ... It may be an opportune time to assess whats in your back yard and your neighbours. If it looks ok, but you still have concerns by virtue of its size, proximity to infrastructure or the way its leaning, do yourself a favour and make contact with your local arborist to make that assessment for you. 08.01.2022 As I drive around town I see many plants wilting, lawns suffering and footpaths wet. Water is becoming very expensive but we dont need to discard our outdoor areas, as there are a few ways in which we can minimize water usage in the garden. Bare in mind we like to choose plants that arent from this environment and ask that they look their best. I think of European turfs when I say this. #1. Choose the right species to start with. Consider the aspect, what you want from the... plant and then consider if a native will do better or a less water demanding, ornamental, exotic species. #2. Improve your soil prior to planting. Dig in some organic matter to help maintain soil. It will still drain the excess but keep some in around the root zone. #3. Mulch. Dont just throw a thin layer on. Do it properly. Place a thick layer of cardboard or newspaper down first. This does a couple of things. Minimizes weeds. Keeps the expensive mulch separate from the soil, thus prolonging its life and more importantly, keeps more moisture in the soil. #4. Water smarter, not more. Many people water 7 times a week for 15 minutes. All we do by this is water the top layer of soil and not much penetrates, thus promoting a shallow root system. A windy day or warm day, the top layer becomes dry by 10am and thats where you have encouraged the roots to be. This leads to water stress and the plant doesnt look its best. My suggestion is water twice a week but for 30minutes. By doing this, we encourage the root system to go far deeper into the soil. On our hot, dry, windy day the top layer has dried out. Who cares as we have no got our root system deep and its able to feed off that deeper water we put there 3 days ago. #5. Water at the right time of day. During the day we are asking for Mr Evaporation to do its thing and none of the water gets to intended location; deep in the soil. Late in the afternoon or night and the plant has shut down for the day and the water just sits there encouraging fungal diseases. Best time to water is first thing of a morning. Id go for 5am start and by the time the program is finished, its still morning before heat and wind start causing dramas. #6. Conduct a regular audit on your irrigation system. A small sprayer missing can throw many liters down the drain. Dogs can put holes in main feed lines. Even a lawn sprayer that isnt directed properly is wasteful. Drive around town any morning and every second place is watering the footpath. Hope this helps. Have a great week. Nathan.

04.01.2022 Prickles are quite prevalent in the area at the moment and the sad thing is, they are nearly impossible to eradicate. They can have such a detrimental effect on a familys standard of living. They can prevent you from wanting to go outside. Whilst we can spray with the appropriate selective herbicide, it often proves to be ineffective. The prickle is the seed and when we spray, we kill the plant, not the seed. The seeds that are attached and we can see (and the thousands lay...ing dormant in the area) will hardly be affected by the spray and eventually germinate into fresh plants. Folks with lovely, weed free lawns spend little or no time, money or effort on weed eradication. The focus is on a healthy lawn that chokes out the weeds and doesnt allow the opportunistic weed seeds (prickles) to germinate. The key to a healthy lawn is adequate water via an automated irrigation system. I can spray the lawn as per request, but please understand that this does not remove the tens of thousands of prickles that are in situ. It will kill the plants and may stop it from getting worse for a little while. After the next rain event, the dormant seeds will germinate and new plants grow and eventually go to seed also. The cycle will continue and my spraying efforts will soon be forgotten.

03.01.2022 Great bit of rain today, but did you take full advantage of it? Whilst many of our gardens plants are somewhat dormant at this time of year, it doesnt mean we cant give them a little feed. Especially when its THIS kind of winter!! Whats important is to establish what you are fertilising and what that particular plants requirements are. Theres no way some left over lawn food can go onto a native garden bed and visa versa is pointless. If in any doubt, please ask. ... The other most important thing to understand when fertilising is to ensure its watered in well. The obvious and great example of this is your lawn. I find the best thing to do is have your fertiliser at the ready. If it starts raining, run around for 5 minutes. Even 5mm of rain seems to be more substantial than a cycle of your irrigation system. Cheers Mother Nature!! Back to correct fertilisers... its important to understand the NPK ratio of your fertiliser and what you intend on putting it on. With grass we are chasing that lovely deep green look. Thats nitrogen, but if we neglect the rest (including trace elements) the plant cant obtain what youre giving it. Getting a bit technical... but again, if in doubt, yell out. If youd like a quote to have your lawn or garden fertilised, please call and ask for a quote. It is probably cheaper than you think. I only use top quality products sourced from knowledgable and qualified folks locally. Please share. Not because its a competition and you can win free stuff, (I do all my free stuff for local, non-profit organisations) but because youre a great person and this could be useful information to one of your friends. Have a great day and happy gardening!
