24.01.2022 Blasting your gut microbiome with antibiotics or antimicrobials can do more harm than good. Antibiotics have their place so if needed, it is worthwhile mopping up afterwards for the sake of your gut health. Nasty pathogens or microbes can lie dormant and cause no symptoms or adverse effects especially if they are over run with beneficial bacteria. I regularly assess a clients microbiome, gut mucosa integrity and levels of bacteria as it guides me in determining the best protocol for IBS, bloating, flatulence and constipation including dietary changes, and which aspect of gut health needs the most attention.

19.01.2022 Beans never tasted so good! Divine recipe by Yotam Ottolenghi from his book "Simple" Ingredients 6 large kaffir leaves 2 limes to make 1 1/2 tsp of zest then juice to get 2 tbsp... 30 g coriander roughly chopped 10 g mint leaves 1 garlic clove crushed 60 ml of olive oil 2 green chillies deseeded and thinly sliced 600g French beans trimmed 150 g frozen shelled edamame 1 tsp black sesame seeds (I forgot to add this when I made it-still delicious-photo below) Salt Two Bean and Two Lime Salad 1. Roll up the kaffir leaves into a thick cigar shape. Slice as thinly as possible, then finely chop the strips. Place in the small bowl of a food processor with the lime zest, 20g coriander, the mint, olive oil, chillies and 1/2 tsp of salt. Blitz until smooth, then set aside. 2. Bring a large pan of salted water to the boil and add the French beans. Blanch for 3 minutes then add the edamame beans for 1 minute. Drain altogether, refresh under cold water and set aside to dry. 3. Spoon the lime paste over the beans, pour over the lime juice and stir to combine. Sprinkle with the sesame seeds along with remaining coriander and serve at once. This will serve 4 as a starter or side.

18.01.2022 I work with a team of brilliant Osteopaths at West Perth Osteopathy and I’m constantly amazed with their work on my clients, friends and family. I get to see the time they devote to their patients, not only the time a treatment takes but also the preparation and the extensive note taking afterwards. I can highly recommend them all.

18.01.2022 This reset is gentler and easier...start feeling better on all levels now.

14.01.2022 I have a great deal of experience and success with sufferers of Chronic Fatigue Syndrome. Recently, one of my CFS clients stagnated with their rate of improvement which had me baffled. I suggested this client have a particular test where the sample had to be sent to the US. The results of this test revealed all and made perfect sense, to both the client and me. We are now back on track.

14.01.2022 Dont we hate the "battle of the screen" over the holidays?? It can become tedious for both parents and kids having screen time monitored and negotiated. One simple tip especially for those with big kids is to ban screen up until a certain time of day. I choose after lunch because mine happen to be up early. Allowing the brain to have a solid break from screen for an extended period of time allows your child to normalise and allows the space for them to come up with non-screen activities. Once kids have a "taste" or "dose" of screen its so much harder to get them off it and once they are off they then tend to be grouchy and disengaged. Good luck!

10.01.2022 I am very impressed with the scope and accuracy of the testing methods that I have recently introduced as part of my practice.

09.01.2022 As a GP and conjoint professor at the National Institute of Complementary Medicine, I will continue to fight the Morrison Governments decision to remove the co...mplementary therapies yoga, pilates, tai chi, Western herbal medicine and naturopathy from receiving private health insurance rebates. Practitioners want certainty and patients want choice. Internationally, health systems are adopting complementary therapies rather than shunning them. Thousands of practitioners and patients have gotten in touch with me due to sheer frustration at the Governments decision that comes into effect today. The medical evidence for complementary therapies exists and they can be part of an effective medical treatment program for patients. A total of 16 natural therapies have been banned from receiving private health rebates from April 1 because the Morrison Government thinks they lack scientific evidence. The problem is that the evidence relied upon to make this decision was out of date, with no studies included that were more recent than 2014. Around 80 per cent of Australians use natural medicines and treatments. The move was designed to push down private health premiums, but experts admit it will have a minimal impact. I spoke to Sky News today and said the following: I think that the net was cast far too wide for these complementary therapies. I have asked the Health Minister to reconsider the list of prohibited therapies and particularly to remove from that list yoga, tai chi, Western herbal medicine, naturopathy and pilates so that people can continue to get value from their private health insurance for these modalities. I think it is very important that both sides of Government understand the importance of integrated therapies for individual choice. We have people who are integrating a variety of complementary therapies which do have support, with evidence, for their healthcare, and particularly for their preventative healthcare and for recovery and rehabilitation. To not be able to get the value out of your private health insurance by being able to use these therapies of choice is a very backwards step. It is certainly out of step with what is happening internationally. One example is that for low back pain in the NHS in the UK, first line therapies are tai chi and yoga, yet these are two of the therapies that are being removed from the list of subsidies for private health insurance - I think that this needs a rethink.

08.01.2022 Omega 3s as effective as ADHD drugs in some cases! A trial published by Reuters Health on the 21st of November 2019 which involved 92 children diagnosed with ADHD aged from 6-18, revealed that children that had low EPA levels in their blood responded just as well to Omega 3 fish oil as the children taking Ritalin. Children with adequate EPA levels did not respond to Omega 3 supplementation. I now offer a spot blood test that is inexpensive that determines if a person is deficient in Omega 3. Very useful and will save time and money when deciding on the best treatment protocol.

08.01.2022 Very important to use fish oil which is of a high quality and is CLEAN! Many fish oils sold in shops and online contain POPs, cadmium, mercury and can be rancid. One brand can be very different to the next.

04.01.2022 Andropause, its not JUST testosterone. Many hormones can play a role when a bloke over 45 has issues sleeping, craving carbs, low in energy, losing muscle, difficulty thinking, lowness of mood, growing moobs and or a large belly and grumpiness. I like to use a particular form of testing and a thorough consultative process that determines where the imbalances are, then provide an individualised and holistic approach to treatment of this. Feel free to contact me if you have questions.

03.01.2022 Are you starving your Microbiome? Your Microbiome needs nourishment from a VARIED diet. Long term keto, paleo, FODMAPs, junk food, intermittent fasting or simply just eating the same thing all the time can deprive health promoting bacteria in the gut of essential nutrients. ... A deprived Microbiome can be damaging to the gut mucosa and have a wide range of negative influences on health. A terrific Microbiome test is available that will reveal levels of beneficial bacteria and pathogens. This test can also determine if your diet is lacking fiber, or contains too much protein and saturated fats. Levels of microbes in the gut may also reflect levels of inflammation as well as the source, metabolic and detoxification issues. If you are keen to do the test or would like advice about a Microbiome friendly diet, organise a time to come in today.

01.01.2022 The month of August can be a difficult time of year emotionally whether you have a tendency to feel flat or low or downright depressed. Natural protocols are available that lift the mood which are effective and safe as well as being compatible with medications. Call Lifeline on 13 11 14 if you are feeling distressed.

01.01.2022 There have not been any studies, in English, published in the last 5 years that provide clear evidence that demonstrates the efficacy of Naturopaths as a health service. This is why the current federal government has directed health funds to no longer cover naturopaths. Plenty of evidence substantiating natural medicine but the review did not see this as relevant. Such a shame!

01.01.2022 Could CIRS or Chronic Inflammatory Resposnse Syndrome be your problem? Must be considered when presented with headaches, muscle aches, joint pain, cognitive issues and fatigue.
