18.01.2022 Free Destination Imagination STEM Activity CHALLENGE: On Target Create an aircraft that will fly as far as possible and land on a target.... MATERIALS: 2 rubber bands 1 piece of foil (10 cm by 10 cm) 2 sheets of A4 paper A 10 cm piece of string 20 cm of sticky tape 1 drinking straw 2 paper clips 1 paddle pop stick Dinner plate (use for target only) Tape measure (use for measuring only) TIME: 5 minutes build 1 minute to launch PROCEDURE: Part 1 (5 minutes) Use at least 4 of the materials provided to make an aircraft that will fly as far as possible and land on a dinner plate placed on the ground. Part 2 (1 minute) Place a dinner plate 3 metres from a chair. Sit on the chair and throw your aircraft to LAND on the dinner plate. You have ONE MINUTE only launch time. Measure the distance the aircraft has flown from the chair. It may touch the table at the beginning and end only. It must also stand alone for at least 10 seconds. Your only supplies are listed below. You will have 4 minutes to complete your solution and 1 minute to present.... MATERIALS: 20 straws 10 paperclips 1 ruler (for measuring only - cannot be part of your solution or modified in any way) TIME: 4 minutes for construction 1 minute for demonstration SCORING: A. 25 points for a bridge of 30 centimetre in length. B. 5 points for every 10 centimetres the bridge is longer than 30 centimetres with a maximum of 25 points. C. 20 points for free standing for 10 seconds. 11.01.2022 Free Destination Imagination STEM Activity CHALLENGE: ROLLING ALONG Design and build a roller coaster that can transport a Ping-Pong ball from the top of the coaster to the end. ... MATERIALS: Collect at least 10 different materials from around the house to build the roller coaster. You can even make it a scavenger hunt! For example, you could collect the following: cardboard tubes cut in half, a pack of straws, mailing labels or pieces of tape, pipe cleaners, craft sticks, toothpicks, paper. SCORING: A. 10 points if your roller coaster is at least 40 cm high B. 10 points if your roller coaster has at least 4 turns C. 10 points if your Ping-Pong ball travels successfully from the top of the roller to the bottom D. 25 points if you post a picture of your roller coaster on our Destination Imagination Facebook page http://ow.ly/AEgT50AW0FU and answer one of the following questions: Which materials were the most difficult to use?
