22.01.2022 Thanks to some awesome donations from community fundraising efforts, Bilga Road Station and Rocky River Stations are both getting some new insulation, walls and flooring to make things more comfortable and practical during the cold winters and hotter summers. A huge thank you to our working bee teams, and also the general publics generosity that have made this all possible. On behalf of the Diggings crew - we say thank you.
20.01.2022 #YourADF is continuing to support Emergency Management Australia in firefighting efforts around the country. Royal Australian Navy’s MRH-90 Taipan helicopters b...ased at HMAS Albatross in Nowra have evacuated residents from Fishermans Paradise, North Sassafras and Yalwal, NSW. Day and night time aerial mapping of fires at Tianjara, Currowan and Forest continues. Defence liaison officers are working side by side with emergency services personnel in the State Disaster Coordination Centre and within the NSW Rural Fire Service Headquarters. Defence is also providing transport and other capabilities such as aviation, logistics, engineering and accommodation to support the firefighting effort. 20.01.2022 The government has today adopted the RFSA's suggestion of adding demerit points to the existing fines for people who toss lit cigarettes from cars. Already thi...s year more than 200 people have been caught throwing lit cigarettes from their cars. This dangerous behaviour puts the community and our members at risk, and we hope this new penalty will help drive home the message to those who continue this recklessness. The new penalty will be five demerit points, which doubles to ten points on total fire ban days. This is exactly what the RFSA had suggested following discussions at our last State Council meeting. State Secretary Steve Robinson joined the Minister for Police and Emergency Services to make the announcement this morning.
20.01.2022 Diggings Picture of the Day - This is our Senior Deputy Captain Adair doing what he knows best - one of our most experienced and valued Chainsaw 3 operators in the region.
14.01.2022 Trivia Tuesday. Below is a graph representing our incident response VS annual rainfall for the Diggings Brigade since 2003. It's very evident that any years that have lower annual rainfall the higher our response call outs have been, and a very obvious steep decline in rainfall since 2016. Many thanks to our Secretary Sylke for putting this together.

09.01.2022 Diggings Crews 1B and 7C with Group 10 were dispatched to a smoke sighting from a possible lightning strike along the Gwydir River Road west of Thunderbolts way this afternoon and were very surprised to come across this white and brown stuff that looked like water! Whilst it was most unfortunate to have our road cut off, we and many property owners (and their stock) in the area could not complain about a thing - 60+mm of rain (and 80+ in some areas) bucketed down in the area over the course of an hour. Was so good to see some dams catching some of this water and some smiles on some landowners faces - was a very satisfying moment shared. We also identified the origin of the fire in question, and have crews from Torryburn and Bundarra attending to it overnight and tomorrow. Good work team thanks to Glenn and Josh for the images.
05.01.2022 It’s always a pleasure to participate in the Australia Day Parade in Uralla, supporting our community once again.
05.01.2022 Diggings crews with assistance from Torryburn, Kentucky, Enmore, Dumeresq, Group 5, Group 10 and 11, as well as Pat Bradley have worked tirelessly over the past few days to establish containment lines and provide property protection to local residents at the Mt Brown fire located west of Armidale. Strategic overnight back burning operations have fortified our position moving into today, with more local crews getting involved. A huge thank you also to all the wonderful local ...resident support teams of landholders that were assisting us with their own firefighting equipment, their local knowledge of the topography and existing tracks, and the dynamic trio of ladies for rotating around on their quad bikes providing us with food, protein bars and home made snacks. Good to see some good old fashioned friendly faces, and complete strangers helping each other out, which is what Diggings is all about. Family. And on that note, a huge welcome to our new members that have recently joined us this season, you have added to our dynamic and we are proud of you all. Stay safe everyone. See more
