05.01.2022 MEN'S HEALTH WEEK - A MEN'S SHED IS COMING TO WEIPA! Establishing a Weipa Men’s Shed has been a dream for local residents Chris Baldwin and Derek Mowles and tha...t dream is about to become a reality! We are excited to announce that through Rio Tinto's global $25M Partnership for Progress - a COVID-19 resilience and recovery fund - we have committed $50,000 plus additional in-kind support to help get the project off the ground. By combining the funding with an equipped demountable building from Amrun, which is likely to be used for a yarning place for men at the Andoom Oval site, we are proud to support the Men's Shed crew to set up a community space with a focus on men's mental health & wellbeing, particularly in the uncertain times of COVID-19. Derek Mowles explains that the Weipa Shed will be different to other Men’s Sheds around the country because of the demographics of our communities. "We don’t have an older community like other places. I think it will become a place for men to gather and work with their hands and perhaps mentor some of the youth in the town. #MensHealthWeek #MHW2020
