22.01.2022 This week is National Child Protection Week, which is in its 30th year. The theme for 2020 is: Putting children first which is the same theme when it was launched in 1990 bringing abuse and neglect out of the shadows and putting child wellbeing on the national agenda. Putting children first means prioritising the safety and wellbeing of children. To grow up well children need to feel safe and loved, have a chance to play and explore, have a say in decisions that affect them, and access to essential things like food, shelter and healthcare. Tips for talking to children about personal safety has been provided to parishes to share with parish families through their networks. You can also visit the NAPCAN website https://www.napcan.org.au/ for more information and resources.

22.01.2022 A very different RUOK day Are you okay? was the question virtually circling the Catholic Education Office in the Diocese of Sale yesterday, as employees took time out to check in with their colleagues. This year, a series of conversation starters were provided to help the 80+ members of the team continue important discussions about their wellbeing while working from home. 21.01.2022 Prayer for Remembrance Day Let us pray for all who suffer as a result of conflict, and ask that God may give us peace: for the service men and women who have died in the violence of war,... each one remembered by and known to God; may God give peace. God give peace. For those who love them in death as in life, offering the distress of our grief and the sadness of our loss; may God give peace. God give peace. For all members of the armed forces who are in danger this day, remembering family, friends and all who pray for their safe return; may God give peace. God give peace. For civilian women, children and men whose lives are disfigured by war or terror, calling to mind in penitence the anger and hatreds of humanity; may God give peace. God give peace. For peacemakers and peacekeepers, who seek to keep this world secure and free; may God give peace. God give peace. For all who bear the burden and privilege of leadership, political, military and religious; asking for gifts of wisdom and resolve in the search for reconciliation and peace; may God give peace. God give peace. O God of truth and justice, we hold before you those whose memory we cherish, and those whose names we will never know. Help us to lift our eyes above the torment of this broken world, and grant us the grace to pray for those who wish us harm. As we honour the past, may we put our faith in your future; for you are the source of life and hope, now and for ever. Amen. #lestweforget2020

20.01.2022 Catholic schools throughout the Diocese of Sale will reinforce the importance of child safety to teachers, parents and students this week, in line with National Child Protection Week. Director of Catholic Education for the Diocese of Sale, Ms Maria Kirkwood, said that National Child Protection Week is a timely reminder to stay focussed on online safety, as many children are spending time online due to remote schooling and social distancing. Our aim is to keep our students s...afe, regardless of where they are learning. We provide a range of resources and training for our staff, along with age-appropriate lessons for children about personal safety strategies. During National Child Protection Week, I encourage everyone to take a moment to learn more about child safety through free resources like the eSafety Commissioners website, she said. 20.01.2022 Rev Fr Peter Slater, Diocesan Administrator has today announced the postponement of the Ordination and Installation of Greg Bennet as the Tenth Bishop of Sale. "In light of the current circumstances of Covid-19 restrictions in the State of Victoria and following the announcement of "Steps" by Premier Andrews for Regional Victoria and Metropolitan Melbourne, it is necessary to postpone the planned Ordination and Installation of Bishop-Elect Gregory Bennet which had been schedu...led for 20th October at St Mary's Cathedral, Sale. The Steps for Regional Victoria prevent public religious worship within the Cathedral and other settings (with special exemption for restricted funerals) until 23rd November 2020. "The Diocese of Sale wishes to support the State Government in its efforts to ensure the health and safety of all Victorians. We are mindful of the many other important occasions which people have delayed or have been unable to celebrate. "Once the Diocese is able to receive advice that we are able to proceed with the liturgy of Ordination and Installation of Bishop-Elect Bennet you will be notified immediately. As you would understand the liturgy will respect all restrictions as required. In any event the Ordination will be live-streamed in order that we can gather as One people in faith in welcoming our new bishop among us." The statement can be accessed on our website, via this link: https://bit.ly/3cab0FU

18.01.2022 Dear Friends We are delighted to announce that our three transitional deacons will be ordained to the priesthood at St Mary’s Cathedral Sale in the same week as we welcome our new Bishop: Paul Zaher on Friday, 11th December at 11.00am, Confidence Masvosva on Saturday 12th at 11.00am, and Jithin Anto during the Vigil Mass (5.30pm) on the same day. We shall rejoice with them, their families, friends and parishes of Sale as they are ordained to join us in the ministerial priesth...ood. As you would be aware, religious worship has now been capped at 150, however the density requirements have not changed, dictating the Cathedral remains at a maximum of 70 people. This means the Ordinations will be invitation only events with livestreaming (links to be provided at a later date via the Diocesan website). Yours in Christ Fr Peter Slater, Diocesan Administrator Bishop-elect Greg Bennet Pictured: Rev Paul Zaher, Rev Jithin Anto and Rev Confidence Masvosva. @corpuschristimelbourne
