24.01.2022 Don't think we don't work tirelessly for your rights, because we do. But when someone has such a significant birthday, we need to take half an hour for a coffee, muffin and brownie. Last week it was Happy 50th to our Peer Leader, Martin Gulliford. He has supported HUNDREDS of people to solve their problems over the last year. If you're trying to put faces to names, L-R: Tyler, Paul, Tristan, Letizia, Martin, Jacki & Monica. Missing from the shot are Angela (who took the photo) and Mark.

11.01.2022 Mental Health Australia is looking for Community Champions. As culturally and linguistically diverse communities often experience unique health care inequities..., it is important that programs are targeted and culturally appropriate. By engaging and working in close partnership with communities and other key services, we are able to implement a range of health promotion strategies that respect cultural values while building community capacity and resilience while reducing the impact of mental ill health. This approach is also based on the principle that understanding the impact of culture and language on health is central to improving health literacy and community access to health services. The Embrace Project is seeking to employ bicultural workers from Arabic, Farsi, Dari and Mandarin-speaking communities to work on a "sessional" basis to focus on mental health issues and strategies directly with these communities. This initiative aims to increase community awareness and understanding of mental health and illness, as well as increase access to mental health support and services. If you are interested in applying for this opportunity, please email us at: [email protected]

09.01.2022 Have you wirtnessed or been told about the abuse of a person with a disability? Are you a Disability Support Worker, Support Coordinator or LAC? Abuse of a person with a disability is ALWAYS a police matter. Even when the abuse occurs within a family relationship.... You need to call 131 444. If the person is injured or in imminent danger, you need to call 000. If the abuse relates to a child, you must contact the Child Abuse Report Line (CARL) - even if you don't have proof. Only a reasonable suspicion is required. Call 13 14 78. DRAS can support people with disabilities who wish to make a submission about abuse to the Disability Royal Commission, but we are not the agency who needs to act to prevent abuse of people with disabilities.

09.01.2022 Today past & present staff, board members and clients gathered to farewell our retiring CEO Moss Politis. We all wish Moss & Jen every good thing the future could bring. PS - if you have any pics from the show feel free to add them in the comments.
