Founder Thomas Richie sailed out to Australia as a young 18-year-old surviving a shipwreck and going on to open the very first Ritchies Supermarket in of all places on the corner of Playne and Bay streets Frankston. This was back in the day, goods wrapped up in a paper bags, eggs sold individually, bacon sliced from the slab and cheese cut from a wheel. The rest they say is history.
