24.01.2022 OFSC - June 2020 News Letter Hi all Members and Friends of Oak Flats Sailing Club, After a long break with no activities at the sailing club, restrictions have now eased to a point that we can meet again at the club house within prescribed limitations (currently I understand that up to 10 people are allowed to gather, present covid-19 public health directions suggest we must continue to where practical practice social distancing and maintain personal hygiene i.e. hand sanit...ising and or washing & of course we must stay at home if not feeling well. At the last meeting the committee decided to have regular (fortnightly) working bees at the club house. The first one is scheduled for, Saturday 13th June at 9:00am * Club shed cleanup * Club boat sorting and assessment, (we have 5 additional Spirals and 2 Lasers which need to be sorted into the shed) * One thing we need to get in place very soon (possibly even on the day) is to replace the existing vanity unit in the change room facility. The existing is in desperate need of replacing. Looking forward to seeing you all on Saturday. Regards, Lothar

23.01.2022 Well done to all the sailors that competed in the Lake Illawarra Youth Regatta this weekend at Oak Flats Sailing Club which also doubled up to being the Spiral 4.5 Nationals. It was fantastic to see all the kids enjoying themselves out on the water - despite the cold rainy conditions on Saturday, everyone went out and put their skills to the test. This year was a pretty close race to top position and the well deserved 1st place went to Luke Franklin from Concord Ryde Sailin...g Club with the final results from six races as follows, 9pts - Luke Franklin, CRSC 14pts - Marty Overton, OFSC 15pts - Koby Wingate, OFSC 19pts - Tegan Franklin, CRSC 23pts - Bailey Hardie, OFSC 28pts - Charlie Overton, OFSC Thank you to everyone who helped out on the weekend, great effort from all involved and many thanks to Bendigo Bank Oak Flats and Shellharbour Community Bank Branches for their support

19.01.2022 A group of juniors, parents and other club members went down to Callala Bay over the weekend to compete in the Spiral 4.5 State Titles. All of the competitors from the Oak Flats Sailing Club done very well being their first time competing in unfamiliar waters which hit them with decent swell and winds of around 20 knots to deal with - some going further than others but nevertheless all of them managed to get out on a boat and have a go. Big thank you to the Spiral Association... for their massive support, especially their encouragement towards the juniors. Also, thank you to the parents and other club members for their help over the weekend.

18.01.2022 This weekend (14th & 15th) is the revival of the Lake Illawarra Youth Regatta, entries open still until Saturday 10am - if you know any juniors interested in entering, please contact us ASAP so we can get an entry form to them

14.01.2022 Our first sailing day of the season was last Sunday 6th September, everyone had a great day on the water. If it’s anything to go by, this season will be a great one - some of our members have been upgrading the club boats throughout winter (they’ve done a fantastic job) The committee is currently working with Australian Sailing to ensure we comply with the current Public Health guidelines.... Please Note: Covid 19 - Precautions We ask that you sign in on arrival and sign out when leaving the clubhouse (so we can provide information if requested to NSW Health), wash your hands or use hand sanitiser and please do your best in maintaining adequate social distancing If you or any of your family members have flu like symptoms or feel generally unwell i.e. a sore throat, runny nose get tested & please stay at home we will look forward to seeing you back at sailing when you have the all clear and you are feeling better. 10.01.2022 Wonderful start to the season, despite the lack of wind on a Sunday - still managing to have fun and adventure with the boats Sailing into Macquarie Rivulet requires a bit of skill on a sail boat - which these kids definitely have.!

07.01.2022 Great news.! The Oak Flats Sailing Club is now registered with the NSW Government Active Kids program. You can now redeem the Voucher allocated for the summer season as membership payment for your child/children. If you know of anyone who’s child/children have not chosen a sport for the summer yet - Now is the time to encourage them to come along and try sailing ...
