16.01.2022 Last year, in the midst of a global pandemic that effected everyone in personal ways Danielle Askew harnessed the power of a good joke and turned it into a beam... of positivity for more than one million people. When the state went into lockdown during the COVID-19 pandemic, Danielle donned a costume, created a Facebook page called 'Bin Isolation Outing' and posted a photo of herself taking out her garbage dressed as Elsa from Frozen. Soon, hundreds of thousands of others from across the world were posting similar photos, using the page as a way to connect while they were socially isolated. She brought together a global community of people finding a lighter side to the isolation imposed by the health response to the pandemic. Since creating the page Danielle has spent countless hours moderating the page. She put Hervey Bay in a global spotlight as the page exploded gaining national and international media attention. She brought lightness and laughter to people whose lives had been changed significantly. Through Bin Isolation Outing, people discussed visiting the region after finding out about it as the origin of this global community. Bin Isolation Outing is this year’s Community Project of the Year. Congratulations to Danielle and everyone involved! See more

09.01.2022 GOOD NEWS: We have installed three new fishing tackle bins on the Urangan Pier. The new tackle bins will help reduce unwanted fishing gear ending up in the oce...an or hurting wildlife. Everyone is reminded to fish responsibly in the wake of the death of an iconic local bird. Well-known Urangan Osprey Queenie was snagged and pierced by a double gang fishhook last year and, despite undergoing emergency surgery, she died because of her injuries. Embedded fishhooks and entanglement by discarded fishing line are a serious threat to our wildlife. Educational signage will also been installed in Urangan around the pier which informs people of the dos and don’ts of helping entangled wildlife. People are also reminded to dispose of their general rubbish responsibly by utilising the existing rubbish bins located at the entrance to the Urangan Pier.
