07.01.2022 North Stradbroke Island fire update as at 11.10am 19 September 2019 Dont cancel your plans to visit Straddie Visitors with plans to head to wonderful Strad...die for the school holidays should not cancel their travel plans. The fire remains within containment lines in inaccessible swampland 3km south of Amity Point. It is not affecting camp sites, however be aware there is some smoke on the island if you have respiratory problems. Whales can be seen daily from the Point Lookout Gorge Walk and the beaches are crystal clear, including Cylinder Beach which for the last two years has been named Surf Lifesaving Queenslands Best Beach in the the State. Theres great fishing and snorkelling. You can also be sure to see dolphins at Point Lookout and very often around the jetty at Amity. You will also be able to see kangaroos and koalas across the island. Theres also great local produce with the Point Lookout Markets on every Sunday during the holidays (22 and 29 September and 6 October). Heed the local fire ban, listen to emergency services messaging on 612 ABC Brisbane radio https://abc.net.au/radio/brisbane or visit the Redlands Coast disaster dashboard website https://disaster.redland.qld.gov.au for the latest information and enjoy one of the most incredible places in Australia.
