14.01.2022 Hi Seastars. Well what a week its been so far and as we give thought to our kin in these turbulent times, doing the best they can; flying the flag for humanity, some better news has to be a tonic, so here is one from our underwater world. This week saw the weather window needed to start the larger scale planting out of our Giant Kelp Propagules at two of our restoration sites; one at Deep Glen Bay and the other at Lufra Reef (more sites to come).... This is a new system we are trialling with marine biologist Dr Craig Sanderson and the Dive Centre. The plan is to build a greater volume of Giant Kelp to assist the plants we have grown over the last 3 years withstand the impact of heavy weather and sudden water temperature changes, producing more resilient stands of plants. With this system a greater volume of Giant Kelp propagules can be spread over a larger area, with the plants better placed to take advantage of the natural substrate. This also provides an education platform as well as habitat restoration. Working on the principle: From Little Things Big Things Can Grow
