13.01.2022 Fellow business owners... It hurts me to see really clever people assuming they have to stay within the box of their industry or community. Open your eyes a little wider people, step outside that box! All sorts of rewards await you there! I recently worked with a client who was purchasing uniforms for their office staff. They were spending a fortune on each piece and waiting up to 6 months for uniforms that a selection of other businesses in their town also had because ‘that’...s where you get professional uniforms’. Fair enough right? Hmmm When I started my business in 2003, it was just me. I scoured the uninspiring uniform shops who had only one tailoring option; to shorten pant legs. Nothing fitted well and everything looked just like what everyone else was wearing because it was! So, I went to Portman’s and bought 3 of the most amazingly shaped, tailored sleeveless shirts and had them embroidered with my logo. They fitted well, looked amazing and I always got comments on how great they looked. By the time my business had grown enough to need staff, we couldn’t find a good match for the uniforms I’d been wearing. I had also decided on a colour change, so bought the right type of fabric for what we needed in the perfect colour, bundled up my old uniforms and my staff and went to a reputable dressmaker. She measured us each up and custom made each uniform to suit our different shapes, made the few small changes I requested to the original design of the tops and then we took them all to get embroidered. Best uniforms ever. Moral of this story is that by thinking outside the box, we got totally unique, individually tailored, top quality uniforms for what turned out to be a fraction of what the same number of uniforms from the uniform shop would have cost, waited only 6 days, not 6 months AND we supported a local small business by doing so! <3
