This time we will explore a new area with a special walk in the Banksia Heaven! Wendy will share with us her passion for Nature and the wildlife in the Chapman River Regional Park. No doubt, we will learn something new in this walk! Join CRF to discover this native bushland (364 ha) in the heart of Geraldton-WA. The park is home to more than 300 plant, 123 bird, 22 reptile and frog species, plus kangaroos, possums, bats and echidnas. Suitable for children 6y+. Your safety is YOUR responsibility. 18.01.2022 The City of Greater Geraldton will be closing some popular walking tracks for prescribed burns this weekend. The first will be today at Greenough River Nature T...rail starting at approximately 9am, weather permitting. The second is scheduled for Sunday at Chapman River Regional Park Trail, also at 9am. To ensure community safety during the burns, the Greenough River trail will be closed to the public between the Greenough River Road Devlin Pool Road entrances and the Chapman River Regional Park Mountain Bike Trial will be closed between Green Street and Strathalbyn Christian College. If the weather is not favourable this burn will be postponed until a future date. The Cape Burney, Waggrakine and Moonyoonooka Volunteer Bush Fire Brigades will be on site at both burns to control the burn rate and extinguish the fire by the end of the day. Smoke from this prescribed burn may affect the surrounding areas. People with a respiratory condition or who are affected by smoke should contact their doctor or call Health Direct on 1800 022 222. The City conducts prescribed burns to prevent severe bushfires and help protect lives and property by reducing the build-up of flammable fuel loads. People are asked to take care and obey all warning signs and directions from authorised City personnel and contractors. 17.01.2022 SPALDING FOOTPATH A new footpath on the eastern side of Crawford Street between Mitchell Street and the Foodbank is scheduled to commence the week of Monday 21 September 2020 for a period of approximately four weeks.

13.01.2022 Rehabilitation Works in Chapman River Region al Park Works to improve bank stability and reduce erosion from historic and recent track building in the Chapman... River Regional Park in the vicinity of Tersonia Way in Strathalbyn will begin today. Works will take about a week to complete. Members of the community are requested to exercise caution and obey all warning signs and directions from authorised City personnel and contractors during this time.

13.01.2022 WONTHELLA FOOTPATH- FOURTH STREET Construction of a new footpath on the northern side of Fourth Street between Federation Park and Howard Street is scheduled to commence the week of Monday 31 August 2020 for a period of approximately two weeks.

12.01.2022 Rate valuation delayed 03 Jul 2020 Geraldton Guardian, Geraldton (General News) by Geoff Vivian The City of Greater Geraldton will save up to $400,000 in fees to the Valuer General, but some property owners will be disappointed. Homes and commercial properties in Geraldton and 40 other municipalities will have no expected change in rateable values this year.

11.01.2022 NEW JETTIES FOR GERALDTON - ESPLANADE AND MARINA Marine tourism in Geraldton and the Abrolhos Islands is about to expand with the state government announcing fu...nding for two local charter vessel jetties. In response to predicted increases in marine tourism in and around Geraldton, in particular the Abrolhos Islands, the City engaged a multi-disciplinary team to undertake a site selection study for the new tourism jetty infrastructure. The first floating is jetty set to be located at the Batavia Coast Marina and will accommodate for vessels up to 25m and help activate the Museum and Marina precinct. The other, located at the Esplanade will also be able accommodate larger vessels, which will support local businesses such as Abrolhos Adventures and Eco Abrolhos. We thank the State Government for allowing access to the $3 million savings from the under budget, Beresford Foreshore project, for the jetties. Final detailed designs are nearing completion.

10.01.2022 Great news... the installation of a cafe at Champion Beach starts on Friday 28 August 2020. Temporary fencing will be put up at the site to ensure community s...afety during works which will take about four weeks to complete. Car parking in the immediate vicinity of the construction site may be limited during works. Please take care if you are in the area.



10.01.2022 DRUMMONDS COVE CGG has successfully applied to the State Government for a $600,000 grant for a further Drummond Cove groyne to be constructed and "hopefully a final" sand nourishment. More details to come soon.

09.01.2022 Council have supported three applications for state grant funding for sport and recreation in the community -Geraldton Amateur Basketball Association (GABA...) plan to duplicate Activewest Stadium which will provide four more courts. -Geraldton Hockey Association are looking to recommission and renew its synthetic surface and shock pad on Turf 2. -The City is seeking funds to undertake renewal works to the Aquarena Outdoor Pool. 08.01.2022 Access to Spalding Park and its cycling facilities from the east side of the North West Coastal Highway is safer and easier following the completion of a shared path leading to the Chapman River bridge and pedestrian underpass.

06.01.2022 Ratepayers in Greater Geraldton are reminded that rates notices will be issued this coming week. As part of the City of Greater Geraldton’s rates relief package... Council adopted, ratepayers who pay their rates in full by the due date will receive a five per cent discount. The 2020/21 rates relief package includes: Five per cent discount on rates paid by the due date No increase to the rate in the dollar No instalment interest No instalment charges No rates penalty interest until the fourth instalment due date then at a reduced rate of 8 per cent. The five per cent discount on rates is for those paid in full by August 24 - 35 days after issue of notice, or in the case of pensioners if the relevant portion of rates levied is paid by August 24. Payment must be in full and include any arrears. The discount does not apply to the separate rubbish charge or the Emergency Services Levy. 03.01.2022 The Geraldton Port Master Plan has been endorsed by the State Government, and today more than $10 million funding for port infrastructure has been announced. T...he Master Plan is hoping to see an increase in throughput to 50 million tonnes per annum over the next 15 years - an increase of almost 35mtpa. $10 million has been announced for the Wharf 4 Strengthening and Rail Replacement project, which upgrade the Geraldton Port infrastructure. And the Geraldton Fishing Boat Harbour has received $1.58 million for upgrades, including new walkways, toilets, fuel bowsers and street lighting. More than 90 jobs are expected to be created by the two projects, with "significant opportunities for local businesses" over the next 12 months according to the State Government. Tenders have also been released today for the construction of jetties on East Wallabi and Beacon islands as part of the Government's $10 million investment at the Houtman Abrolhos Islands National Park. The two jetties are expected to be completed by early 2021.
