21.01.2022 In preparation for those starting prep next year, here is an idea of where they should be. At around 5 kids should be able to: - recognise some letters and numbers - understand time concepts (before, after, etc.)... - follow 3 stage directions - think about word meanings - use past and future tense correctly - take turns in conversation - form longer sentences - tell short but complete stories If you have any concerns about your childs language, let me know.

21.01.2022 What a great week for DM Speech Pathology. Thank you everyone for your likes and spreading the word. As winter is here, remember to keep your voice hydrated. A steamer is a singers (or any voice users) best friend in winter. Nothing fancy just boiled water.

19.01.2022 For those professional voice users out there. Common signs of a voice disorder include: - vocal fatigue - hoarseness... - breathiness - reduced vocal range - aphonia (loss of voice) - pitch breaks - tremor - vocal strain or strangled voice - pain or other sensations in the throat or neck If you are worried at all about your voice or any of these are true for you, see an ENT for assessment first and then book in with a Speech Pathologist.

16.01.2022 Swallowing awareness day!

08.01.2022 Website coming soon... Stay tuned.

08.01.2022 My wife was asked today by a friend about speech milestones for early school age children. When a child starts school at age 5+ their speech should be 100% intelligible to everyone. It is important that they start saying all sounds well because they will need to match them to symbols (letters) for reading and spelling. Children might still struggle with the th sound (that, thumb, etc.) until about 8 or 9 and may have difficulty with r in consonant blends (often said as ...w). They may also have trouble saying s and z when their front teeth fall out. If you are concerned about your childs speech feel free to send me a message or give me a call. Im always happy to answer questions.

07.01.2022 Website is finally live! Please check it out and give me some feedback on how it looks.

06.01.2022 DM Speech Pathology is now approved for NDIS services. Feel free to call for more information or to book an appointment.

05.01.2022 Medicare rebates are available for speech pathology services. These are gained through your GP and are called a Chronic Disease Management (CDM) plan or formerly an Enhanced Primary Care (EPC) plan. 5 sessions are available for allied health services per calendar year. Feel free to send me a message for further information about this or chat with your GP.

04.01.2022 A good thing for parents to remember. Even if you are sick of it, they need it.

02.01.2022 Welcome. I am venturing out and beginning my own private practice as a child and adult speech and language pathologist. I am offering mobile services and clinic based services to the Redlands and Logan or those who are happy to travel. Speech is more then just fixing a lisp or working with adults post stroke. So have a look at the different services I offer, send me a message if you have a question or phone in and book an appointment.
