24.01.2022 Celebrating the Praznyk of the Cathedral Parish of Ss. Peter & Paul. Dnisters Chair, David Hassett, was proud to make a donation to the Cathedral Parish of Ss.... Peter & Paul on the occasion of their Parish Feast Day. The Parish was founded in 1949 at St Augustines in Bourke St, Melbourne as newly arrived Ukrainians finished their two years of service and moved to the cities and built communities. Those "displaced persons", as they were then referred to, could not borrow money from banks as they had no credit history and little in the way of assets. The Brotherhood of the Parish solved this by forming Self Reliance, a group that pooled the money of its members and then lent that out to Parishioners. With the passing of the Banking Act in 1959, Self-Reliance had to become a more formal organisation and became Dnister Ukrainian Credit Co-operative. Dnister is very proud of its history and its role in the building of Ukrainian Communities in Australia. See more

The event, "Inside Mamas Glory Box - a tribute to Kristina Sywenkjy-Bailey", showcased vyshyvanka from across Ukraine. Congratulations and thanks to the Embassy of Ukraine in Australia and the Ukrainian Womens Association of Australia for their organisation of this event.
