24.01.2022 A dislocated intraocular lens (IOL) following cataract surgery done elsewhere many years ago. Late dislocation is usually due to an eye condition called "pseudoexfoliation syndrome". This patient came to see me to restore their vision. This lens was removed and a new lens fixated to their iris.

23.01.2022 Just finished another Facebook Live session with Glaucoma Australia disussing glaucoma drops and SLT! I hope you find this helpful!

22.01.2022 11am AEST Today Facebook Live with Glaucoma Australia! Q & A session discussing all things COVID-19 and eyecare

21.01.2022 I uploaded this video to my YouTube channel on the Hydrus glaucoma microstent. The Hydrus has very strong results data, from early rabbit studies through to large human trials. The Hydrus is more difficult to implant than some other glaucoma microstents, which is probably why only a small number of eye surgeons do them. The Hydrus was actually my first ever MIGS procedure so it holds a special place in my heart . I love doing the surgery and seeing the results! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DZnDmzTEBsU

21.01.2022 Congratulations to James Muecke for being named South Australian of the Year for the tremendous work he's done leading "Sight For All"! Sight For All delivers eyecare to areas of need by training local eye surgeons, which therefore has a lasting impact. They've been a great team to be involved with and I'm so pleased to see James (and the charity) receive this recognition. . . . .... . . . #SightForAll. #SFA. #eyecare. #congrats

20.01.2022 Image of the tear film during air puff tonometry. See the corneal indentation in the top image and the liberation of tears in the bottom image (stained with fluorescein). Ophthalmology published a paper yesterday that fortunately reported no virus in the tears of 17 patients with COVID19. But it's still wise to take extra precautions around your air puff tonometer. 17.01.2022 Was delighted to present our paper on multiple repeat SLT treatments as standalone therapy for #glaucoma at #RANZCO2019. We demonstrate sustained pressure reductions that are at least on par with the first treatment. Coincidentally the SLT-LIGHT data on repeat SLT got presented at the same meeting, but we have more treatments . . . .... . . #teameffort #ellex #eyelaser #migs #glaucomalaser

11.01.2022 Delighted to have my recent paper on micro-invasive glaucoma surgery (MIGS) attracting some interest. Just published in the Jan 2020 edition of Survey of Ophthalmology. It's a review article that brings together all of the published articles regarding fluid drainage from the eye. Many of these papers are over 50 years old and had been overlooked or forgotten. My team and I also discuss how best to take advantage of the fluid drainage pathways with different MIGS procedures. https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/31425701 www.drnickandrew.com.au

06.01.2022 Celebratory team photo after doing the first ever Hydrus Microstent and Xen glaucoma stent at the Windsor Gardens Specialist Centre

06.01.2022 A relieved Whyalla theatre team after a blockbuster case recently. I explanted a dislocated lens, sutured a new 3-piece lens to the iris and implanted a Baerveldt glaucoma tube. Certainly a first for the town of Whyalla (maybe for regional Australia?). Thanks to this superb team for compiling the mountain of equipment required, and to industry for donating some of the gear in order for the patient to have their surgery. . I did a Seipser knot for the nasal haptic and a McAhme...d for the temporal. I tested out the #ACTU8 Tewari T2 microforcep - they are great. Good for intraocular suturing but also strong enough to hold the lens. Thank you to vortex surgical for supplying them. . . . . #outbackeye #glaucomasurgery #complexcataract #oatr #austmed #glaucomaaustralia #gaass #vortexsurgical See more

05.01.2022 With Dr Sonia Huang by our poster at RANZCO Congress 2019. This is a cool little technique for improving eye drop compliance, brainstormed by one of my patients! You fasten a rip cord around the bottle and place a series of marks on the bottle. You then slide the rip cord down after each dose is instilled, to keep track of how many drops are left to be administered that day. Great for busy people or those with short term forgetfulness. Honored to have arguably the least scien...tific poster in history - a credit to the elegance of the idea! And well done to Sonia for putting this together! . . . . . . . #eyedrops #glaucoma #medicationcompliance #eyedropcompliance #ophthalmology #dosingaid See more
