Exercise helps you lose weight by the same mechanism - stimulating insulin sensitivity, NOT by burning calories. 4. Hence why statement 1 is true.... Carbohydrate dependent athletes who exercise intensively and therefore require alot of carbs to fuel performance actually lose weight when they stop training because of the reducion in required carbohydrate consumption. This is COVERT Insulin Resistance. Take the same person consuming the same carbs and reduce exercise and you have OVERT Insulin Resistance and clearly visible on the scales, a blood pressure machine and dyslipidaemia in blood tests.
