24.01.2022 Have you guys heard of the Yellow Dog Project?

23.01.2022 It's incredibly sad to see how common this is, long nails in performance dogs is unacceptable, no ifs or buts. If you can he...ar your dog's nails clicking then they're too long. : Painful especially on contact equipment and flyball boxes Changes posture that increases risk of injury and chronic pain and even arthritis later on Can make the foot splayed which reduces traction which is needed in performance sports Increases the risk of toe injuries that can then lead to shoulder challenges Injure Tendons & ligaments - partially and fully ruptured ligaments in performance dogs is not uncommon but often go undiagnosed A dogs balance when on course is affected Changes the natural gait of the dog Long nails change the angles of the joints and puts more repetitive strain through them Long hair can hide long nails. Long hair also affects proprioception so be sure your dog's hair is trimmed between their pads Majority of dogs nails are not worn down when going for walks, you need to trim them, every 2 weeks is recommended for most dogs. ? Google "Cooperative Care for dogs", Fenzi also have a course on this topic: https://www.fenzidogsportsacademy.com/index.php/courses/2392 about a cutting technique to get shorter nails: https://youtu.be/MM4HQDb1Ef0?t=435 : https://www.facebook.com/groups/nail.maintenance.for.dogs/ & Please consider educating your members and perhaps even having rules surround this topic.

17.01.2022 DOES YOUR DOG SUFFER ANXIETY? A Systematic review(1) of Gut Microbiota interventions for Anxiety finds: 36% of Probiotic interventions found to be effective... 86% of non-probiotic interventions found to be effective* does changing diet have more impact than probiotics? (2) At this time we have no reason to not follow the findings on gut health in humans when working with dogs. If we know gut health plays a role in anxiety then we should consider how nutrition relates to this... A 2017 canine specific study(3) showed that long term diet type affected the microbiota of dogs. Dogs fed a more natural diet had higher richness and diversity of gut microbiota compared to commercially fed dogs.(4) Several studies(5) show evidence suggesting that omega-3 deficiency may be associated with mood and behavioural disorders. In dogs, all these pathologies have been consistently reported to be associated with oxidative stress. What to do now? Consider adding a probiotic to your dog's diet Consider changing their diet to remove processed foods and replace with fresh food diet. Add clean sources of omega-3 to your dog's diet, we recommend Antinol as it is clean of heavy metals, low purine therefore safe for Dalmatians and is seriously the superhero version of Omega's. 12.01.2022 Hello FB peeps I’ve been asked again if Mia and Mishka could provide some friends for a puppy love promo on Valentine’s Day. From what I understand the pups (a...nd owners if needed) would go to people and businesses where there needs to be a little cheering up. They would like the dogs from around 8-11am. If your interested please let me know by the end of the day so I can let them know who would be available. If any further details come through I’ll edit the post. Nikki

10.01.2022 I just finished the hardest bath and dry of all the years of grooming. It wasn’t because the pup was jumping around, she was amazing standing still, it wasn’t because she was scared of the dryer, she handled it like a gem... It was because I wasn’t allowed to use a brush we need to keep the curl so no fluff drying, it was the hardest groom ever

10.01.2022 These are great illustrations showing the impact of using a popular front clip harness such as Easy-walk. The horizontal front strap lays right over the should...er joint, restricting motion and putting pressure on that joint. In addition, the side straps lay right over the scapula (shoulder blade) not allowing for full movement of that structure. When choosing a harness, make sure you purchase one that allows for full shoulder range of motion. Myself and other animal chiropractors see so many front limb problems either caused by or exacerbated by these harnesses. Feel free to share :) See more

04.01.2022 Dental care can be a hassle for humans and dogs, but proper maintenance can be a money saver in the long run and even a lifesaver. Letting it go can lead to cos...tly and often painful vet visits down the road. Many dogs will require anesthesia to have their teeth and gums cleaned if the buildup is bad enough. Even with healthy teeth, just like us, your dog should have their teeth checked by a professional every six to twelve months. Your vet should include a dental examination with a normal checkup but ask for it if they don’t. To keep a dog teeth and gums in good health we recommend that they are given a very large raw beef or pork bone at least on a monthly basis if not weekly. The chewing of the bone will aid in removing built up tartar from the teeth and gums. Don't be alarmed if you notice a little gum bleed to begin with. When providing with a bone it should be under close supervision and for no more than an hour. Never leave the dog alone. Do not provide raw hide nor chicken wings or necks (due to choking), or cooked bones as alternatives. If you notice any of these signs of dental problems, then take your dog to the vet: Bad breath; Change in eating or dog chewing habits; Pawing at the face or mouth; Depression; Excessive drooling Discolored, broken, missing or crooked teeth; Red, swollen, painful or bleeding gums; Yellowish-brown tartar crust along the gum line; Bumps or growths within the mouth.
