14.01.2022 WHY MOST OWNERS FAIL IN TRAINING THEIR DOGS They give up...It sounds easy, just be determined and persistent and your dog will do as its told. It's not that easy at all for the average person because we are programmed to be nice...being firm and strict with a dog doesn't come naturally to most. We tell our children multiple times to stop doing something before we jump up and make to happen, Unfortantlly dogs laugh at that approach, they will fight you and argue the point for... ever and never tire of arguing, You have to make it happen the first time no matter how long it takes, As soon as any owner sighs or speaks in frustration their firm energy goes and it's then a waste of time trying to carry on. If you get frustrated, give up and start again five minutes later , square your shoulders get stubborn and make the dog shut up, or whatever you want stopped,.. make it happen. Get someone you trust to watch you and then when they tell you you sighed or looked frustrated, believe them because most people will not know they did. It's so common and normal to show frustration in a tiny way we don't know we do it. But your dog does, and he knows he has your measure when you do. Never nag a dog,.. tell them once,.. twice if you have to ,but then don't discuss it anymore with them. Make it happen the first time and then the next time will be much easier, the third time it will happen straight away. Dogs will happily have you nag them for fifteen years, They never get annoyed by being nagged, they like it. There...I've just saved you fifteen years of frustration... but...that's only if 'you' choose to do it, If I can do It , you can because I don't teach anything that others cannot follow. If you want to have a dog that is truly devoted to you you have to be a leader and that means you have to fulfil their needs and be mean at other times so they trust and love you as a dog loves. Your dog doesn't recognise human love as a human does, she recognises a leader and loves that above everything. Looking up to, and being with a leader they trust beats any cuddle, treat, squeaky voice and excitement every time. You can do all those things for your own satisfaction, but don't be fooled into thinking that is the most important thing in your dog's mind. Soon ...I will write about how to handle a partner who doesn't want to be a leader. And I will write about who I am. I recently spoke about unqualified trainers so I will let you know a bit about myself. Please share ...Thanks

09.01.2022 STOPPING A BAD BEHAVIOUR? I'm going to write this week about the most common reason I find that owners fail when they try to stop a bad behaviour, and I include fear as a bad behaviour as well as the obvious bad behaviours. Barking, jumping up etc. What do you think?

03.01.2022 IF YOU HAVE AN ANXIOUS DOG, USE A FEARFUL DOG TO CURE IT. That's a stupid statement ,isn't it?. There is no way an anxious dog can help another anxious dog, they will make it worse. But an anxious owner will try to help an anxious dog and wonder why they are not helping.... As I get older I get more grumpy. There is a reason for that, years and years of seeing the same common sense things ignored and its getting worse and after many years it just gets frustrating. To sit here and read time after time unexperienced people proclaiming to be trainers say dogs do not need a leader and it is a partnership doesn't just annoy me now ,It makes me angry. I think of all the poor dogs they are condemning to a miserable life just so they can pretend to be experts. Anxious dogs need leadership so they feel safe. Its not their job to take on the world ,Its the leaders job, Its the owner who has to lead and be the master, not the poor dog and Its a cop out from trainers with weak personality's not to step up and take charge. Sometimes an anxious person getting a nervous dog is a good thing because it forces that owner to come out of their shell and become a more confident person for their dog. But if they don't its the dog who will suffer. Here is a tip for any anxious person with a dog-- When you are going out with your dog,... put a special bit of clothing on and go into acting mode. Become an alter ego and act a part. As soon as you put that hat, coat or whatever on you become a different person and take charge of the world for your dog sake. If you find you just cannot do it after a while ,you seriously have to think, are you the best owner for your dog?. Fifteen years of living in fear isn't a good life for any dog.
