25.01.2022 Visiting hours...a friendly seal checks on one of our rescued turtles in rehab. #dolphinmarinerescue #CoffsHarbour #VisitNSW #turtles

24.01.2022 Our patients and residents are big salad eaters! Each turtle gobbles up the equivalent of an iceberg lettuce every day and our freshwater turtles and peacocks love to munch on the leaves too. Any leftovers go straight into our worm farm to make organic compost for our gardens #lettuceeat #turtles #coffsharbournsw #dolphinmarinerescue ##vìsitnsw

24.01.2022 Just seeing our recuperating turtles swim freely is all the encouragement we need. #oceangoals #dophinmarineresue #coffsharbour #turtles

20.01.2022 Recently we assisted Crown Lands with a stranded Sperm Whale at South Ballina Beach. Sadly, the magnificent mammal had died and we did all we could to help with a dignified removal. It was truly gut-wrenching to see and getting up so close just emphasised how important it is for us to learn more about how we can protect these epic creatures of the sea. #DolphinMarineRescue #CoffsHarbour #Whales

12.01.2022 CHEWIE UPDATE Chewie set for release soon! Named after the much-loved Star Wars character, Chewie is on track for a successful recovery and release. The long-nosed fur seal pup is under the expert care of our veterinary and marine animal team at Dolphin Marine Rescue, our not-for-profit facility at Dolphin Marine Conservation Park Chewie was rescued by a Coffs Coast local who noticed the injured seal on the beach near Grassy Head. We assessed he was most likely atta...cked by a predator and also hit by a boat propeller His injuries were so severe that it was touch and go as to whether he would survive. Now, he looks like being released within weeks! Our Vet, Dr Duan March, explains the balance required with caring for rescued animals and rehabilitating them for release back into the wild. "We get them eating so they can receive medication while their wounds heal but without the animals becoming reliant on humans. Chewie is a wild seal and when released, he will still be capable of reintegrating into the ocean and catching his food." Watch this space for Chewie's release date! #DolphinMarineRescue #coffscoast #LoveNSW See more

02.01.2022 Today, we farewelled Chewie! After many weeks of expert veterinary care and lots of TLC from our marine mammal team, the resilient New Zealand Fur Seal Pup made an impressive recovery from horrific injuries which we suspect were caused by a predator and a boat propeller. Special thanks to the fantastic team at Whale Watch Experience Coffs Harbour for taking us out on your beautiful boat to release this cheeky seal. Chewie seemed to reluctant to say goodbye to his carers. He came back for a second look.. and then swam off! Goodbye Chewie. We will all miss you and wish you a long life exploring the oceans. #DolphinMarineConservationPark #DolphinMarineRescue #CoffsHarbour #VisitNSW #CoffsCoast
