25.01.2022 We want to give people choice. The choice when buying a property on whether to pay stamp duty, or a smaller annual fee - and the financial flexibility that empowers people to choose a home that suits their needs best. You can submit feedback on the proposal here: https://www.treasury.nsw.gov.au//nsw-propert/have-your-say
24.01.2022 We want more people to have access to housing that suits their needs. We've made the changes needed to make build-to-rent a reality but NSW can't be left to do all the heavy lifting. Boosting investment in the built-to-rent sector will increase housing supply, help create new jobs and support our economic recovery from the pandemic.
23.01.2022 A pedestrian and cycleway from the Opera House to Parramatta? We're looking into it.
22.01.2022 Two days 'til I deliver the NSW State Budget. Couldn't do it without a great team around me.
22.01.2022 This budget has always been about putting people and jobs first. The number are big, but necessary to defeat the challenges of 2020 and beyond.
22.01.2022 COVID-19 has wreaked havoc across the world - but NSW has stood strong against the virus. The 2020-21 Half-Yearly Review shows our recovery is on track with more than 80 per cent of jobs lost in the peak of the pandemic returning. The steady reopening of the NSW economy, recent easing of domestic border restrictions, and the roll-out of COVID-19 vaccinations, have all boosted confidence since the NSW Budget was handed down in November.... The updated Budget forecasts are encouraging but there are still thousands of people who are out of work and businesses that are struggling. We will use any improvements in the Budget to continue supporting job creation and investment in our record $107 billion infrastructure program. Read the HYR here: https://www.treasury.nsw.gov.au/
22.01.2022 An infrastructure blitz. Cuts to payroll tax benefiting around 33,000 businesses. A new $100 million fund to support grassroots sports clubs across NSW. Those are just a few of the measures in the state budget I'll hand down tomorrow - a budget designed boost jobs and keep NSW the best place in Australia to run a business and raise a family.... 21.01.2022 This week's budget has always been about putting people and jobs first. The numbers are big, but necessary to defeat the challenges of 2020 and beyond. The range of support, stimulus, recovery and reform measures we unveiled are a huge step forward on our path back to prosperity - and to a NSW better than it was a year ago.
20.01.2022 Today marks 102 years since the armistice of WW1, and we think of those who fought - in all wars - for the democracy and freedom we enjoy and sometimes take for granted. It is an opportunity to remember them and the sacrifice they made so that Australia could be what we've all, together, created - a country we can be proud to call home.
20.01.2022 Good morning, Budget Day. Putting the finishing touches on today's speech to Parliament. It's been a rough year for so many in our state, so this budget puts people first. We're laser focused on getting NSW to the other side of this difficult time stronger and more confident than ever. We have a plan to get there and are putting it into action.
20.01.2022 2020 has been a disruptive year for our kids. So we're bringing on up to 5,500 extra staff to provide small group classes at every government school across the state, as well as non-government schools with the most need. This is a first ever for NSW, thanks to a $337 million tutoring program in the state budget, which I'll hand down on Tuesday.... Learning outcomes are the focus here, but this state-wide program will also provide needed work for qualified teachers and tutors who may be short. The program will begin in Term 1, 2021 and run throughout the school year. Info: https://education.nsw.gov.au//free-tutoring-to-support-stu With Gladys Berejiklian and Sarah Mitchell MLC.
19.01.2022 Tackling the tragedy of suicide is a key priority of our government. The crises of drought, bushfires and the pandemic downturn our state and country have endured make it more urgent than ever. We're directing an extra $6 million in the coming state budget to set up 12 special collaboratives that bring together doctors, nurses, police, media, teachers, parents, carers, Indigenous organisations and councils to fight suicide in especially at-risk communities.... Here with Minister Bronnie Taylor MLC, police and representatives from Lifeline and headspace - two organisations who will lead the initiative and will receive funding. If you, or someone you know, is thinking about suicide or experiencing a personal crisis, please seek help by calling 000 or one of these services: Lifeline 13 11 14 Suicide Call Back Service 1300 659 467 NSW Mental Health Line 1800 011 511
19.01.2022 Was honoured yesterday to join former PM John Howard at his alma mater, Canterbury Boys’ High School, for the opening of a hall in his name. Though it's been more than 60 years since he studied there, the wisdom he shared with the students is timeless: "To succeed in the environment you’re living in, the opportunities are as you make them. 19.01.2022 Let's talk about stamp duty and property tax for a second.
17.01.2022 Later today I'll hand down a budget unlike any other I've delivered. At its heart is the people of our great state - your safety, jobs and future prosperity. Gladys Berejiklian
15.01.2022 Confidence is a vital driver of economic activity and here in NSW people have every right to be optimistic about the future. As we continue to grapple with the pandemic in the months ahead the challenge for every Government remains the need to balance the health response with the social and economic consequences with every decision we make. That’s what is driving our approach and it’s an important factor in ensuring the people of NSW can face the future with optimism, determination and confidence.
14.01.2022 The NSW economy is heading in the right direction with the 2020-21 Half-Yearly Review handed down yesterday revealing that on almost every fiscal and economic measure, NSW is recovering better and more quickly than expected. We remain the only state or territory to be rated Triple-A by Moody's. In response to the HYR John Manning, Vice President, Moody’s Investors Service said: "Despite significant disruption from lockdowns and border closures, the recovery in the NSW econom...y is exceeding our expectations." "In tandem with our expectation of a declining risk of sporadic shutdowns as effective vaccines are rolled out, the underlying strength of the state economy, combined with a clear intent to pursue rapid fiscal repair, continues to underpin NSW’s Aaa rating and stable outlook. This is backed up by the latest ANZ Stateometer, which has NSW leading the pack, with our economic growth above-trend and accelerating in December 2020 quarter: https://bluenotes.anz.com//anz-stateometer-australian-econ
12.01.2022 Yesterday at Taronga Zoo Sydney we announced a big win for native wildlife protection and education with a $37.5 million package to build a wildlife hospital and conservation centre. Today, it's Dubbo's turn. A platypus refuge and brand new wildlife hospital will be built on this site at Taronga Western Plains Zoo with more than $22 million from our upcoming budget. The team here is working to save seven endangered species - and this investment is worth every dollar. Job-crea...tion, regional investment, tourism and a win for our native species. Very happy to help bring this important project to life. With John Barilaro, Matt Kean MP, Member for Dubbo, Dugald Saunders MP and Taronga Conservation Society CEO Cameron Kerr.
11.01.2022 A whole lot of train stations across Sydney and the rest of the state are due for an upgrade - and they're going to get one, with a number of stations just added to our list thanks to funding in the budget I'll hand down next week. Wheelchair ramps, lifts, parking, bike racks, lighting, security cameras, landscaping. Targeted spending like this helps boost local jobs and and improves the experience of people who rely on these services. It's all about bang for buck. See the full list of completed, current and planned upgrades: https://www.transport.nsw.gov.au/projects-tap
11.01.2022 Behind the hot property market headlines are people struggling to get the keys to their very own home. Stamp duty is one of the biggest barriers to owning a home and we want you to have your say on the proposed changes to help us find a better way: https://www.haveyoursay.nsw.gov.au/nsw-property-tax-proposal
06.01.2022 In a world wounded by ugliness and misery, beauty is what we yearn to find and, better still, create. A city as beautiful as Sydney should be filled with beautiful architecture. https://www.smh.com.au//ten-iconic-buildings-i-d-bulldoze-
02.01.2022 Almost four months. It's been a long, tough wait for many friends, families and couples. Well done Victoria. A big shout out also to NSW Health and NSW Police Force.
01.01.2022 ABS employment figures out - we're moving in the right direction. Female participation rate at an all-time high for the data series. NSW jobless rate now 6.5%, down from 7.2%. The lowest of the states. The measures we announced in Tuesday's budget will help chart our return to pre-pandemic employment levels. More than 36,000 jobs added in the last month is good news, but there's more to do. Our recovery won't be a straight line - there will be ups and downs. But NSW has already shown we're up to the challenge. We will meet it.
