25.01.2022 THESE SCHOOL HOLIDAYS BACK OUR LOCAL BUSINESSES Today I had a chance to visit a hidden gem Mt Pilot Tourist Farm just 10km off the Hume Freeway at the Chiltern exit kangaroos, elk, deer, emus and even the pig are family friendly. For others you might want to take a horse ride through the nearby forest. #supportlocalbusiness #benambra

24.01.2022 SHOP LOCAL, TRAVEL LOCAL, SUPPORT LOCALS This week I've embarked on a campaign to encourage people during the school holidays and beyond to support our towns and businesses. The long overdue concessions granted to regional business and travel a couple of weeks ago can really help some people who have struggled over the past six months. I’m hoping you too will visit some of our towns and attractions, have a meal at any of our great cafes and restaurants, perhaps get away for t...he weekend or simply shop locally. Ads will run in the The Border Mail highlighting 16 towns and villages across the electorate and Radio 2AY -- apologies to Gus who makes our sessions seem seamless when they hit the airwaves -- will broadcast similar messages. But at the end of the day the real message is that we all need to help each other through this crisis both financially and emotionally.

24.01.2022 You gotta love the Australian Lamb ads and Wodonga can now lay claim to the big "W" after the cameo in the opening scenes. #lovewhereyoulive #lovewhereyouwork #benambra

19.01.2022 As a result of intense community pressure, and strong advocacy by the Liberals, there has been a big win today. The Government has opened up new bookings for Learners Permits, Hazard Perception Tests and License tests from today - with appointments available from next week!

19.01.2022 Falls Creek Resort and the Alpine National Park has reopened again to visitors from regional Victoria just in time for school holidays! Regional visitors are encouraged to visit, enjoy the spring rays, dine out and access the resort’s beautiful hiking and trails. There are rules and regulations. You still need to register your trip at www.fallscreek.com.au where you will also find a What's on Guide... Pic credit Matt Hull

19.01.2022 The COVID-19 lockdown off the back of the summer fires has decimated some of our tourist towns, robbed them of the peak seasons that allow them to operate year-round. It’s time to show the way forward and Victorian Liberal Leader - Michael O'Brien MP has a #backtowork plan that will kick start our towns, businesses and jobs. Read our full plan at www.michaelobrien.com.au

16.01.2022 There was an air of optimism in Wodonga today when I was speaking with ABC Goulburn Murray and their television crew today. Please, many of these businesses that are finally able to have people seated have done it really tough in recent times, so let’s throw our weight behind their reopening and accept that we might have to wait for a booking and be a little patient. #supportlocalbusiness #benambra

16.01.2022 As we shiver through this single digit degree day I'm taking some consolation in the rising water levels out at Lake Hume. Today's Goulburn-Murray Water numbers shows there is about 700,000ML, about 25%, more in Lake Hume today compared to the same time last year. #sendherdownHuey

15.01.2022 WHO ENGAGED PRIVATE SECURITY ... Seems like everyone suffered amnesia about what went on when the Victorian Labor Government made a decision to spend $60M to employ untrained, inexperienced Uber drivers and security guards to look after its quarantine hotels. If it wasn't so tragic you would think this response from Daniel Andrews main man, Chris Eccles, at the inquiry yesterday would seem like a scene from Yes Minister or Utopia ... "I'm not saying I didn't.... "I just can't recall whether I did or didn't." I know I'm going to be bashed by some people who think I'm being political and so I have borrowed some stories, and no they are not from right leaning publications, for those that still believe the failures of the Andrews Labor government isn't responsible for this second wave. If someone says who would have done it better ... I'd say any other Premier in Australia. 1. People in charge of hotel quarantine were given equity and diversity training but given no formal instructions on how to use personal protective equipment. (https://www.abc.net.au/.../returned-travellers.../12581884) 2. Quarantined hotel guests were allowed out into the community while awaiting their coronavirus test results. (https://www.abc.net.au/.../victorian-hotel.../12672058) 3. Astonishingly, like, absolutely mind-bogglingly unbelievably, some people were allowed to leave quarantine even if they were COVID-positive at the end of their stay (https://www.abc.net.au/.../victorian-hotel.../12672058) 4. Victoria was repeatedly offered support by the Australian Defence Force that it refuted (https://www.abc.net.au/.../victoria-coronavirus.../12665402) 5. Dan Andrews then lied about it, and continues to lie about it, despite it being proven (https://www.theage.com.au/.../adf-available-police-chief...)

11.01.2022 THE GOOD V/Line will return to the North East from December 1. It's a step in the right direction as the Federal Government's $235M upgrade of the line is also well ahead of the expected mid-2021 finish date. THE BAD The next step is the Labor State Government's long promised new trains, but sadly we understand that only one train set will be ready when the track is complete and the full set at least another two years away. ... & THE UGLY What does that all mean? We understand the mix of old and new trains means the train timetable will be tied to the current four-hour trip even though the new train will be capable of going much quicker. #benambra #newtrainsnow

11.01.2022 In National Recycling Week it’s time that Victoria had a Cash for Containers scheme. We’re the only state in Australia without one. The Liberal Nationals just want to get this done to clean up our environment, boost recycling and boost jobs. But, the Andrews Labor Government wants to wait 3 more years to 2023, letting more plastic waste damage our environment. We say: why wait?

11.01.2022 THANK YOU. A BIG thank you goes out to some very special locals, our members on the checkpoint had a mother and her children drop off 20 McDonalds frozen cokes... and another 2 lovely ladies drop off over $50 worth of icy poles, bananas, Gatorade's and lollies to help our members beat the heat yesterday. It has really lifted everyone's spirits and keep us going in the heat.

10.01.2022 Yet another example of the absurdity of the Victorian COVID-19 Roadmap is the fact that regional dance studios won't open until November 23. That's right November 23 or perhaps even later if we haven't reached zero cases for 14 days across the entire state. This has to change. The Victorian Labor Government must urgently review these benchmarks and timeframe. They need to get a grip on the fact that they are allowing contact sports for under 18s but the second largest partic...ipation activity for young girls is seen as a danger to spreading COVID-19. 10.01.2022 There were no changes announced to restrictions for regional Victoria yesterday - a disappointment for those of us hoping our zero case numbers would allow some more flexibility for hospitality, business, dance schools, learn to swim classes, gyms and others. However Daniel Andrews did announce that face mask rules will be tightened. All Victorians must now wear only a fitted face mask of two-ply+ material or a surgical mask, with no end date for mask wearing flagged. Wear...ing other face coverings such as a shield, scarf, gator or bandana will not be allowed after a grace period of two weeks. Face shields, scarves, gators and bandanas were deemed suitable by health experts when Victoria’s active coronavirus numbers were in the thousands but apparently not now. Don’t ask me why. There remain exemptions for some people including those with breathing conditions and for mental health reasons. So: face shields scarves bandanas face masks only If you have something to say to the Premier, add your voice at www.noconfidence.com.au

09.01.2022 BORDER PERMITS Plenty going on tonight with moves afoot to have border permit without the 4 reasons available from midnight. NSW has signed its health orders tonight but where are the Victorian orders? Not sighted as yet. ... Some civic leaders in the news tonite bagging NSW Premier might want to turn their frustrations southward if this isn’t resolved rather than always attacking Gladys Berejiklian.

09.01.2022 Victorians will revert to the mask settings in place prior to Christmas with masks no longer being required indoors in all settings. Masks mandatory only on domestic flights, airports, hospitals, public transport, supermarkets and shopping centres. For Border residents stuck in either Sydney or Brisbane, with no clear path or process to get home, the Premier says assessments are being made everyday. My office understands people are being advised by the COVID hotline that it is going to take 30 days. Seems we can get people home from overseas hotspots like the US and Europe and yet can't get people home from cities with only a handful of cases here in our own country. #overreach #benambra

09.01.2022 In all of this COVID madness I fear some in the Upper Murray who faced the January bushfires have been forgotten ... Our office is continuing to assist people who are struggling for support so it was great to get a call, ZOOM really, from the team at Anglicare Victoria who are providing free financial counselling and support to the Upper Murray. There is a free call help line 1800 244 323. You will be put in contact with Jane or Suellen -- two locals who are on the ground and... know the area. If you need any other help give the office a call on (02) 6009 0808.

09.01.2022 Labor has been in government for six years. In that time, the wait list to access appropriate social housing has ballooned by over 14,000 Victorians. Andrews' announcement of 12,000 extra homes over four years won't do anything to fix the dire state of our wait lists that he and his government have caused by their inaction. It's too little, too late from Labor. Our plan:... Build 50,000 new homes with industry through a 'Build to Rent' model - with 5,000 of these to be social housing Deliver 12,000 new social housing homes by 1 July 2022 - not in four years' time Bring the wait list back down to 42,000 - fixing Labor's mess Read our full plan at www.michaelobrien.com.au

08.01.2022 Labor's spin merchants are in full swing today, a glitzy press release promising a safety net for casual staff and at the same time hiding the fact they will simply put an extra cost on small businesses who rely on the ebb and flow of staff to manage morning, lunch time or dinner rushes. Think about your local café, your local bakery, your local pub. These are all small businesses doing it tough and Daniel Andrews’ answer to them is to give them a new tax. What's next -- getting the businesses to pay their union dues? More at ... https://billtilley.com.au/2020/11/23/labors-new-tax-on-jobs/

07.01.2022 MT BEAUTY, TAWONGA, BRIGHT in Border Region Health orders signed last night by NSW Health Minister adds Tawonga, Mt Beauty and Bright to the Border region. I know many people from the Upper Kiewa Valley travel into ALBURY WODONGA for work, health, education and shopping. Well done Justin Clancy MP - Member for Albury for carrying our message to Sydney. A lot of happy people this morning with this news and permit approval overnight. ... More detail ... https://www.service.nsw.gov.au//2020-09/border-region-map-

05.01.2022 The only consolation to this return to single-digit top temperatures is the rising water levels in our dams. Today's Goulburn-Murray Water numbers shows there is more than 700,000ML, about 25%, more water in Lake Hume today compared to the same time last year. #sendherdownhuey

04.01.2022 Disappointing that the Premier sought not to answer the Question - I don't understand it, but I do understand that it wasn't me that he tried to put "back in a box", but every person, no matter who you voted for that I represent in Benambra, who are trying to understand and "dare" to ask a question about it!

04.01.2022 Have you lost confidence that Daniel Andrews and Labor are making good decisions? Daniel Andrews has moved to overrule departmental, health and specialist advice that said children’s dance studios could safely open now in regional Victoria. Why are Victorian children still suffering? Add your name to the list of Victorians who have No Confidence at www.NoConfidence.com.au ... #NoConfidenceLabor

04.01.2022 NO, WE HAVEN'T GONE BARKING MAD But #DogsInPoliticsDay is an opportunity to "paws" and think about our best friends. One of the team brought in Rusty during the bushfires earlier this year (remember them) and he started off like a dog with a bone; at one stage he wanted to go outside but it was raining cats and dogs and by the end of the day he was just sick of the "pup-arazzi" taking his photo. I like to think that anything is "paw-sible" when you have a dog in the office.... If you like Rusty give him a thumbs up Let's face it, it’s the "leashed" you can do!

03.01.2022 Feels like a brave new world with the removal of the Border barriers and relaxation of mask rules. In some ways this is a win for everyone up here and across Regional Victoria who have called for measures that match the risk. #benambra #winforcommonsense

03.01.2022 WOW! Now they are starting to turn on their own ... Add your name to the thousands of Victorians who have No Confidence in Daniel Andrews and Labor: www.NoConfidence.com.au #NoConfidenceLabor

03.01.2022 What a great showreel for the Kiewa Valley. The North East is without doubt spectacular, but it is how it pulls at people's hearts and minds, how it fosters creativity that is the true magic of the mountains and their valleys. #lovewherewelive #benambra

03.01.2022 A new Agricultural Workers permit will come into play from Friday. The permit will allow the critical free movement of agricultural workers across the VIC/NSW state borders so that primary industries can not only continue to feed and clothe the nation, but be the driving force behind the economic recovery from COVID-19. Agricultural workers travelling between NSW and Victoria will need a permit and relevant identification and will be required to use Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) as appropriate. Travelling workers will also need to keep records of their movements. Agricultural employers need to support workers to perform self-isolation in the first 14 days after entry into NSW, and must have a COVID safety plan in place.

03.01.2022 This is bloody ridiculous. This Victorian Labor Government is jetting in tennis players from COVID hotspots like Los Angeles at the same time they are barring their own people from returning to their homes because they are in Sydney and Brisbane. These people are losing pay, stressed beyond belief and have no clear answer for how long they will be stuck in limbo. For the record... Community transmissions today Sydney 0 Brisbane 0 California 40,365 How do the rusted on trolls of the #IStandWithDan clan justify the double standards. Health Minister Martin Foley MP is trying to defend the indefensible. #bringvicshome #springst #benambra

01.01.2022 BUS TRAVEL & KIDS In the past couple of days there has been some confusion at the Border involving Victorian kids returning from Albury without photo ID and not in the company of their parents/guardians. For the record under-18s are NOT required to carry a photo ID, NOR do they need to be in the company of a parent or guardian. With the school year just a couple of weeks away, it should be noted that there is an additional exemption covering school students travelling on a bu...s. These exemptions appear on Pages 8 and 19 of the Health Order issued on Monday night.
