23.01.2022 Don Camillo has it’s roots firmly planted in Hobart’s history. Opened in 1965 (well before Australia’s first casino) it was one of only three other restaurants in Hobart at the time. Now in 2020 it is 55 years old and Hobart’s longest running restaurant. When you’re in next, ask to see the original menu. Tell us, what would you have ordered back in the day?

As some of you may have heard Don Camillo is introducing a new form of hospitality in Sandy Bay, another little spot of culture... in the form of a Cinema. Thats right, every Monday night Cinema Don Camillo will be screening classic Italian films along with foreign, independent and cult films! Its an intimate, cosy and unique experience. ... There will be popcorn available for purchase as well as alcoholic beverages (unfortunately our regular restaurant service is not available... yet!) Information below on the films beings screened over the next few weeks! Screening on Monday the 18th (next week!) ROMAN HOLIDAY - classic, beautiful romantic comedy film shot in Rome in 1953. Audrey Hepburn in her debut role plays a princess bored to death in a foreign town until she meets Gregory Peck's character, a savvy and charming news reporter from America. If you haven't seen this film don't miss your chance to see it on the big screen! On Monday the 25th LIFE IS BEAUTIFUL - laughter and tears are abounding in this powerfully emotive film of love and life. Written, directed and starring Roberto Benigni this is one film everyone has to see. (If not at least do yourself a favour and check out his acceptance speech for the multitude of oscars he one for it) And in December! On Monday the 2nd CASABLANCA - It is toted as "the greatest film ever made". And for good reason. This film is an utter pleasure to watch and be taken away by. 12.01.2022 If you look up the history of the red and white table cloth one summary of their story is: Throughout the 20th century red and white checkered tablecloths in restaurants sent clear messages to patrons: this restaurant is inexpensive, friendly and unpretentious. They suggested that the customer was in a homey place, either authentically old fashioned or old world. Another is that they help hide the spaghetti sauce splashes perfectly!

We want to share with you the measures we are currently taking to keep you safe while dining with us: - We ask that customers who have cold/flu symptoms, who have recently travelled overseas or have been in close contact with someone with the above, do not attend the restaurant during their self isolation period;... - Hand sanitiser is available at the front of the restaurant for your use upon entry to the restaurant and when at the counter; - Regular disinfecting of door handles, surfaces, bathrooms and EFTPOS machine will continue to occur; - We have removed many tables to allow greater distance between tables for diners in the restaurant; - We are staggering booking times to avoid a full restaurant given the health advice about big group gatherings; - Disinfecting of tables and chairs after each use will continue to occur. - As much as we love to hug and chat to our customers, please dont be offended if we dont embrace you as we usually would! A rumour has been going around town (maybe because of the sale of another well known and very popular Italian restaurant) and it's grown big enough for us to say something. I hope it hasn't scared anyone from coming here. We are still going strong and the end of this year will mark 55 years of business non stop!
