25.01.2022 On Thursdays 25th April 2019, Donnybrook Anzac day starts with the dawn service at 6am at the memorial for a short service. 24.01.2022 Due to the Covid-19 virus the RSLWA has made the decision to cancel all ANZAC Day events across all of Western Australia. This is to keep our old diggers like Arthur (below) and everyone else safe. So we have had to cancel all ANZAC Day events here in Donnybrook.

23.01.2022 Thanks to everyone that came along to our annual Christmas BBQ. It was a great day. Thank you to all the ladies that supplied salads and sweets etc and all the guys that also helped. We hope you all have a wonderful Christmas and stay safe.

22.01.2022 LAYING A WREATH To the ancient Romans, a wreath of laurel leaves was a symbol of bravery, strength and triumph. Its meaning can be traced back to Greek mythology. Since the Victorian era, wreaths of flowers woven into a circle have been laid on graves to represent life and resurrection.... Since World War I, wreaths have been laid at memorials to remember those Australians who died in service during wars, conflicts and peacekeeping operations. If you would like to lay a wreath, or floral tribute, at the Memorial this Anzac Day, we ask that you strictly adhere to social distancing requirements, and do so in a respectful and contemplative manner. If you would like to make a wreath - please follow the link. https://anzacportal.dva.gov.au/comm/event-planning/wreaths

22.01.2022 Harvey RSL hosted Vietnam Veterans Day today. After a short march down the main street to the War Memorial, the main service was held with many clubs laying wreaths. Geoff Box and Ric Evans (Donnybrook RSL President) represented Donnybrook. We all then went across the road for a very nice lunch and a drink with mates. Well done Harvey for an excellent day and for ordering the perfect weather. Next year, Donnybrook RSL will be hosting Vietnam Veterans Day.

21.01.2022 Remembering all the Vietnam Veterans today. Reminder that Donnybrook is hosting V.V. Day on Sunday 19th here in Donnybrook. Please form up at Ayers Garden 10.30. March to memorial for a short service. 11.30 back at the Memorial hall in Bentley Street for lunch at $10 per head.

21.01.2022 It maybe a very different ANZAC Day today but the meaning never changes. Thank you so much to Sandra Hall - riding Nugget and Jane Van Halen - riding Akubra for riding your horses down to the Memorial at dawn. It was great to see so many wreaths placed at the memorial (done safely in line with social distancing). We even had a visit from Howard Smcoe dressed in a WWI outfit and gas mask. Lets hope we can all be together as a group for next years ANZAC Day. Stay safe

19.01.2022 The Donnybrook RSL Sub-branch turned 100 today. So we celebrated with a morning tea. We also had a dedication for our new flag pole, wall and sign. This was made possible by the Bendigo Bank kindly donating funds as did the Donnybrook Shire. Morgan from the bank and Brian Piesse, the shire president did the honour of cutting the ribbon. Some of the committee dressed in period costume which added to the fun of the day. A big THANK you to all the ladies around the district that donated food. Happy birthday Donnybrook RSL.

19.01.2022 What a fantastic turn out for our dawn service. Thank you all so very much for making the effort

19.01.2022 I posted yesterday about our Donnybrook RSL Christmas party but I have just received these photos from our fabulous photographer, Pamela, so I thought I would share them.

18.01.2022 It only seems like a couple of months ago that I posted our 2017 Christmas get together and here we are again for 2018. Thank you to all the members that attended and made it a great day. It was lovely to see our life member, Arthur (97) come along. A big happy birthday to John who turns 90 in a couple of days. Thank you to Ric and Carol for setting up, the ladies who supplied the food and Geoff for cooking the BBQ. The Donnybrook RSL would like to wish you all a very happy and safe Christmas.

16.01.2022 Saturday the Donnybrook RSL hosted about 60 of the Nga Uri - South West riders who were doing a fun run visiting a few RSL clubs in and around Bunbury. Our little club rooms didn't know what hit it when most of them made their way upstairs to have a look around. What a fantastic bunch of people and it was a great pleasure having them here. With a roar and a rumble they were off.

15.01.2022 April 24th we held a short service for the residents of our local aged care home, Tuia Lodge. One of the residents, Norma Stone placed a bunch of roses at the flag pole during the wreath laying. Thank you to all that attended.

15.01.2022 Yesterday, Donnybrook RSL hosted the South West Vietnam Veterans day (18th). It was a great day with about 110 people attending from all over the South West. We couldn't have asked for better weather. Thank you to all the club's that made the effort to attend and the public for your support whilst the Vets marched. Collie RSL have offered to host next year's event. So hope to see everyone there. A massive thank you to all the organisers and helpers. A job well done. Also thanks to Pamela and Tarnya for the photos.

14.01.2022 Thank you to all of you that helped in making Remembrance Day a great success. A special thank you to Callum for once again playing the last post. It was great to see about 30 people turn up at our memorial for the service. Thank you Ric for delivering a very moving account of what the day means to us all. In the afternoon we went and held a short service for the residents of our aged facility, Tuia Lodge. The lovely Norma Stone presented the wreath and Callum again played the last post which the residents loved.

13.01.2022 Yesterday saw us all acknowledging 100years since the Armistice which ended WWI . We started out with morning tea for all those attending. This was followed by a Remembrance Day service and a minute silence at the eleventh hour. We were vèry pleased that over 150 people attended. Thank you to all of you that helped with the service. Also a big thank you to those of you that donated monies on Poppy Day, last Friday.

12.01.2022 Just letting you all know it is the Donnybrook RSL AGM. Monday 23rd September at 7pm. Please come along and show your support.

11.01.2022 Congradulations to our president Ric Evans and Treasurer Geoff Box for getting jointly the Donnybrook Citizen of the year award for all their work they do for the RSL and Geoff also for his work for the Men Shed. Well deserved.

11.01.2022 Yesterday, we went to our grandsons class. They are grade 1 and 2. Geoff spoke to them about Remembrance day and explained why we hold a service on the 11th and the significance of the red and purple poppies. We handed around Geoffs medals and dog tags. The kids showed alot of interest and asked lots of questions. They had lots of fun trying on Geoffs hats.

10.01.2022 Today we honoured our Vietnam Veterans. Busselton Sub-branch were the hosts for this year's service. Thank you Busselton, you did a fantastic job. The guys formed up outside the RSL and proudly marched to the memorial for the service. Geoff and Darryl laid the wreath representing our Donnybrook RSL. After the service we went back to the RSL for lunch. Boyup Brook will be hosting next year's event.

10.01.2022 Thank you so very much Arthur Scanlan for once again leading the parade with the help of your family. The weather was perfect as was the day. Geoff Box was the quest speaker. Thank you for a very moving speech. Well done to all involved in the organisation of the day.

10.01.2022 CONCERN FOR WELFARE: RAAF Veteran Graeme Laughton has been missing for at least 10 months. Graeme, last seen in the Bunbury area, had experienced extreme person...al loss and trauma before losing contact with loved ones. Good friend Russell Sharp fears Graeme may be homeless and is extremely worried for his wellbeing. Graeme, if you are reading this, please reach out to Russell, the police, RSLWA, or your local Sub-Branch to let your loved ones know you are OK. And if you need assistance, please contact RSLWAs welfare team on 08 9287 3799 #HelpOurHeroes #rslwa See more

09.01.2022 Come and join us tomorrow at the Donnybrook War Memorial at 10am, for morning tea followed by a Remembrance Day service at 10.50 am.

09.01.2022 About 20 people turned up for our Remembrance Service. Short service but very moving all the same. Les McGoldrick layed the wreath on behalf of the Donnybrook RSL. Thank you to all of you who donated, Friday, on Poppy Day.

09.01.2022 The Donnybrook RSL purchased a bookcase to house all the fantastic books donated to us from another RSL. This is now a library for all our members to use. What better way than to dedicate this library to our Arthur. Arthur Scanlan is a 94 yrs young digger and life member of our RSL. A small celebration was organised and was kept as a surprise from Arthur and he was Exstatic when asked to cut the ribbon to open the library.

06.01.2022 Great turnout for the dawn service for ANZAC Day organised by the Donnybrook RSL

05.01.2022 It has recently come to my attention that not many school children and even older are aware of what an RSL is. They learn about ANZAC day and Remembrance Day but nothing about the RSL. So it was fantastic to be asked by the parents of some home schooled children (from around our district) if they could come and have a look around our SUB branch. Our treasurer Geoff Box was happy to give a talk to the children about our RSL he also told them a little of his time in Vietnam. We then took them around and explained some of our memorabilia. Thank you to the mum's and children for visiting our club and showing a genuine interest.

02.01.2022 Brookhampton is a location within the Donnybrook/Balingup Shire. Sunday 15th December saw the Brookhampton Memorial turn 100. Neville Clifford organised a celebration to mark this occassion. It was a very hot day but that didn't keep the 100 plus people from coming along. Neville gave a run down on the history of Brookhampton and then there was a short service held by Ric Evans - Donnybrook RSL president followed by Callum Gray playing the last post and Geoff Box - Donnybrook... RSL Treasurer raising the flag. Carol Evans controlled the sound system. This was then followed by a performance by the Brookhampton Bell Ringers. The bell ringers was formed in 1904 and there are 8 members names on the memorial. It is still going strong, today. It was lovely to see their oldest surviving member, Alf (90yrs old) come along to join in the celebration. Most people stayed for a BBQ lunch. Thank you to all the organisers it was a great day. See more

02.01.2022 The DBK RSL would like to thank you all for the way you remembered our Diggers for ANZAC day. However it was brought to my attention that we should not have gone to the memorial. I would like to say that nothing was organised by our sub-branch except the President and Treasurer to raise the flags and lay a wreath. This was NOT done at dawn so as not to draw a crowd - even our Prime Minister and the leader of the opposition were allowed to lay a wreath. Anyone that attended the memorial did so off their own backs. At one stage 2 couples saw each other and started to chat. Our President actually asked them to separate. I feel the Donnybrook RSL did not do anything outside the Covid-19 guidelines.
