16.01.2022 Fun Fact Friday! Each year the lives of thousands of Australians are transformed through the transplantation of donated eye and tissue. One donor can transform the lives of many people. There are often 20-30 recipients who benefit from one multi-tissue donor. Eye and tissue donation can make the difference between seeing and being blind, mobility and never walking again, or a speedy rather than protracted recovery from trauma, cancer or disease. #donortissuebankvictoria #tissuedonation #thanks #becomeadonor Make your wishes known with the people close to you. Register at www.donatelife.gov.au

03.01.2022 Happy 30th Birthday DTBV! First established in 1989, The Donor Tissue Bank of Victoria was the first multi tissue bank in Australasia. It screens, processes, stores, tests and distributes multiple types of tissue from the one facility. It is a public sector not-for-profit organisation. Its core function is to provide Australian surgeons with safe and effective tissue grafts for transplantation in many areas of orthopaedic, cardiothoracic, reconstructive surgery and burn care, benefitting many patients every year. Register to become a tissue and/or organ donor today at www.donatelife.gov.au To Celebrate The Donor Tissue Bank of Victorias 30th Birthday we welcomed the Attorney-General of Victoria The Hon. Jill Hennessy. It was a pleasure to show her our state of the art facilities at DTBV.

01.01.2022 Tomorrow the DTBV will be celebrating Leaf Day. Leaf Day is centered around the DTBV’s Tree of Life. Throughout the year, leaves bearing the first names of all tissue donors are added to the tree. By the end of the year, the tree is full of donor leaves, reflecting the vast contribution of tissue donors and their families. Leaf Day is an opportunity for families who have allowed this incredible gift to occur to come together with DTBV staff and others whose lives have been touched by the gift of donation to reflect, to hear of the importance and benefits of tissue donation, and to see their loved one’s leaf on The Tree of Life. Thank you to all our donor families.
