17.01.2022 Getting ready for the burn season at dorrobbee grasslands. Anyone keen to lend a hand?

17.01.2022 We are going to have our first burn of the season at the Dorrobbee Grasslands tomorrow (Sunday) afternoon starting around 3pm. If you would like to join the team assisting with the burn please call or message 0429 693 111 to let us know you are planning to come so we can be well prepared. We have a good handful of people ready and able so, for those that might be nervous seeing smoke in the area after last summers horrendous fire experience, be assured this will be a cool and controlled burn.

14.01.2022 Plenty of supporters this afternoon for our first burn this season. Thanks so much for your help, lots of stories & skills were shared . We managed to burn 3 sections which will continue our management of those nasties - Torpedo grass & Ragweed.

11.01.2022 Fire permits required from Tuesday 1 September 2020 The Bush Fire Danger Period for the Northern Rivers Zone area will start on Tuesday, 1 September, 2020. Th...e Bush Fire Danger Period will also start on Tuesday for the Richmond Valley, Lismore and Kyogle local government areas. The introduction of the Bush Fire Danger Period means that any one wanting to a light a fire from Tuesday will require a fire permit. Persons wishing to light a fire at any time throughout the year are required to notify the NSW Rural Fire Service and all adjoining neighbours 24 hours prior to lighting. Failure to comply can result in fines under the Rural Fires Act 1997. Smoke regulations prohibit burning in some areas - contact your Council or local Fire Brigade for further information. Fire Permits are free and easy to get. Contact your local Fire Control Centre or Fire and Rescue NSW fire station at least 24 hours before you plan to burn.

03.01.2022 There will be a grass burn up at Dorrobbee Grass this afternoon likely starting at 4pm. There may be some smoke passing across Dunoon road depending on wind. If anyone would like to come lend a hand please do. Check in with Emma on arrival. Working to the north east of the top tank.

02.01.2022 Just for your awareness -there will be another burn of the Dorrobbee Grasslands this afternoon. The Dorrobbee Grass Reserve land managers would like to thank the broader community for the interest in burn activities at the grasslands. However todays burn will not be open to the broader community. Rather a small targeted group controlling the burn. The last community burn exceed our anticipated numbers. The grasslands reserve board need to consider both safety of participants and large group restrictions as relates to Covid-19 in the burn activities. There will be other burns this winter where community will be invited to attend and support. Thanks again for your interest.

01.01.2022 Be aware - upcoming roadside weed control works on Fraser Road. Lismore City Council is supporting the removal of several weed trees from the road reserve adjacent to Dorrobbee Grass on Fraser Road, Dunoon. These works will be undertaken this Monday and and Tuesday 29th and 30th of June. Traffic control will be in place to close one lane of Fraser Road to ensure safety during the tree lopping. The tree removal is being funded under the LCC biodiversity management strategy in response to a request from the Dorrobbee Grass Land Managers board who are working to restore the ecological integrity of Dorrobbee Grass through fire management and weed control.
