Topic: The development of a school based intervention to improve the school participation and school connectedness of students with autism in mainstream primary schools. Amy Hodges is an Occupational therapist and the primary author of In My Shoes, a school based intervention that she developed as part of her doctoral studies that aims to improve the school participation and connectedness of students with autism in mainstream primary schools. Amy will share with you the journey that led to the development of In My Shoes, including key findings from her research and will also share some of the resources of the program including dramatised videos and comic-strip style illustrations. In My Shoes is due to be trialled in schools this year to test its preliminary effectiveness and feasibility in the school environment. If you have any spare old smart devices that you would be willing to lend to a fellow OT for research purposes, please contact Amy Hodges on 0419383169 or [email protected]. Devices would be returned by 17th December (at very latest). Amy Hodges is a registered Occupational therapist and PhD Candidate from Curtin University. Amys project involves developing and evaluating a school based intervention to improve the school participation... and feelings of connectedness of students with autism in mainstream primary schools. Amy has developed the program which is due to be trialled in schools in Term 3 (July). One of the ways Amy is collecting data from students is using a survey loaded onto an App on a smart device; which is why she is trying to source as many smart devices (i.e., iPhone, iPod, Samsung, see below for compatibility) as possible to assist with data collection. iOS 8.0-8.4, 9.0-9.3, 10.0-10.3, 12 Android 6.0-6.01, 7.0-7.1.2, 8.0-8.1.0

We are testing online options to ensure we are able to manage a purely online PD, and possibly being able to record and upload it onto the website. We will let you know once a new date has been set. In the meantime, we encourage you all to take care of yourselves, your family, your community and society as a whole, as we brace ourselves for uncertain times ahead. We know this is hitting some services very hard.

06.01.2022 The 2019 Enabling Excellence Award was presented to Jacqui Hunt. Jacqui has over 20 years experience of clinical practice in paediatric occupational therapy. Sh...e has developed and lead a paediatric occupational therapy clinic which has provided over 200 students with a safe, supported environment to develop their clinical competence and their professional identity. The clinic has provided essential services to over 200 children in the Northern corridor who would otherwise not have access to the necessary interventions.
