24.01.2022 Today marks the end of an era for #TeamDP with the resignation of Tony Sweetland, our Earthworks Superintendent with our Macarthur laboratory. Tony has worked with Douglas Partners for 31 years, starting with Ground Test on 7 May 1984. Between ‘84 and ‘98 he worked in multiple locations throughout Sydney, Regional NSW and Victoria. There were a couple of periods during this time when Tony briefly left DP to travel overseas. Tony worked in the Townsville office between 1999... and 2003, after which time he returned to Sydney. In 2005 Tony moved to the Macarthur office (then Minto) where he built a thriving Earthworks Laboratory of up to about 25 staff. Macarthur Branch Manager, Rod Gray, said " I’ve worked with Tony for the past 8 years and in that time I’ve gained a great respect for his approach and dedication to the Macarthur Lab." Many of his colleagues acknowledged and respect Tony for his work ethic with one colleague summing it up with the thing I have always had enormous respect for is Tony’s calm demeanor and can do attitude. No job was ever to big and no problem insurmountable and another stating The pleasure was knowing that the laboratory and earthworks side of the business was always well and truly on the rails, thanks to his capability and ownership. Its people like Tony who have made DP what it is today. He has been a mentor and friend to many and leaves a legacy of solid work and pragmatism. #TeamDP wishes Tony all the very best and smooth sailing into his retirement. #retirement

24.01.2022 During excavation of sites, Douglas Partners are closely involved with regular inspections to identify potentially unstable situations and recommend remedial measures to prevent failures. However, recently trimming what appeared to be a sound, high strength, rock face observed a few days before caused a 200 mm thick slab of sandstone to peel off. The exposed feature, a 25 mm thick clay seam with an unusual orientation, 060 (parallel to the face) appears to be a narrow, extremely weathered igneous dyke. #rockmechanics

18.01.2022 #TeamDP congratulates our Melbourne based Geotechnical Engineer, Avi Poonyth, who recently received his Chartered Professional Engineer (CPEng) status from Engineers Australia. Avi put in the dedication and commitment required to receive this awesome recognition. When we reached out to him to ask him what this achievement means to him he replied with "So honoured to have received the news from Engineers Australia that I am now a Chartered Professional Engineer (CPEng) in Geot...echnical Engineering. Though the process seemed overwhelming at first, the continuous support of my colleagues made it all seem easy and worthwhile. Special thanks to Greg Anderson, Michael Broise, Chris Crowe, Per Henrikson and David Chong who are all great mentors and provide me with great opportunities which allows me to kick goals." Keep kicking those goals Avi! #chartered #geotechnicalengineering #achievements #recognition #CPEng #professionaldevelopment #goals

14.01.2022 Recently, #TeamDP bid farewell to Michael Thom as he retired after 39 years of service with Douglas Partners. Mike made enormous contributions to DP being a key driver in the inception of DP and the growth of the wider company over many years. He was also a mentor and great friend to many of us within DP. Mike has always been a continual learner. His extensive library is a bit of a giveaway for his love of learning, and so upon his departure, Mike kindly offered up his book c...ollection in exchange for donations to Vinnies Australia (St Vincent de Paul Society) and in particular their Homeless Appeal. With many staff eager to get their hands on his pristine book collection, Mike raised $1000 for the appeal between staff and company donations. Mike had some wise words upon his departure, reminding us all that Success in life and your career will come entirely from your effort. If it is worth having it is worth working for. We will not forget his wisdom. We bid Mike a very happy and healthy retirement to, in the words of Mike himself, do whatever takes my fancy from time to time. If you would like to contribute to St Vincent de Paul Society, you can do so by going to the Vinnies charity website - https://donate.vinnies.org.au/donation-hub #retirement #mentor #charityfundraising

10.01.2022 #TeamDP in our Geelong branch were pleased to be able to contribute the geotechnical investigation for the stage 1 and 2 works which included pavement design, waste classification, material re-use and an additional geotechnical investigation for the pumping station at the site. We wish Jinding Australia all the best as this project moves forward and look forward to working with their team again in the future. #geotechnicalengineering #harriottarmstrongcreek

08.01.2022 Great to see this project advance to the next stage. As part of a DA, in June 2018, we completed the geotechnical investigation across the site and field work, laboratory testing, analysis and reporting was provided to assist with civil design. Upon approval, we were engaged to carry out the Level 1 and 2 inspections and testing during the bulk earthwork and civil operations. At the completion of the earthworks we have carried out site specific investigations for the design o...f proposed structures. Our team worked very closely with the project team including Arcadis Australia Pacific (project civil engineers), Coops Drainage & Civil (principal contractor) and Baycrown Pty Ltd (project developer). Our people have really enjoyed working with the team and it's been a great job to be involved with. #geotechnicalinvestigations #laboratorytesting #earthworks #collaboration

06.01.2022 Today is R U OK? Day a very important initiative promoting the value of holding conversations about mental health, not just on this day, but throughout the year. This has become even more critical in 2020 given the challenges many of us have experienced in recent months. #TeamDP will be taking time out to check in with others, have a chat and listen. You never know when the simple act of checking in with someone and asking #ruok? may just brighten their day and have a lasting positive impact well beyond that moment. #mentalhealthmatters #wellbeing #mentalhealth

05.01.2022 #TeamDP congratulates our Sydney based Senior Engineering Geologist, Ry Stone who has been recognised by Engineers Australia and is now Chartered in the area of Civil and Geotechnical Engineering. 04.01.2022 #TeamDP congratulates all our staff who recently took part in The Push-Up Challenge 2020 fundraiser for headspace. The DP Push Up Team completed an #amazing 172,279 push ups in 21 days and thus far the team has raised $4,314 to support the great work Headspace does in assisting people coping with mental health issues. While the push ups were a bit of fun, the important message is to raise awareness of mental health and the importance of being able to talk openly about it. We look forward to being a part of this great cause again in 2021. #mentalhealth #pushforbetter #teameffort
