23.01.2022 I absolutely love spending time by the ocean and find that it’s awesome space to feel the natural ebb and flow of life. Today I spent some time regrouping after my trip to Cairns, while I’m waiting on a beautiful baby girl to choose her birthday. Right now I’m blessed to be sitting vigil with a family as they prepare to farewell their patriarch. So like the ocean, I allow myself to feel the ebb and flow of life as the gatekeeper at both ends of the veil.
22.01.2022 Hi everyone Denise Love and I are hosting today’s Sunday Sesh at 4pm. Today’s discussion is aimed at the time a life changing diagnosis is received, we talk about some of the directions you may choose, how to look at what your early choices may look like long term, the effect your diagnosis may have on those around you, how you can help them help you. Included is some lovely guidance for carer’s.

17.01.2022 This week I’ve held a birthing mother as she cried out, This hurts, Why is it taking so long, I can’t do this anymore,... I don’t want to hurt the baby, I’ve also held a grieving wife as she cried, I don’t want him to suffer any more, How much longer, He doesn’t deserve this, I can’t do this anymore. Being a doula for people as new life begins or at end of life holds no difference. There is pain, there is strength, there is raw emotion, be it elation or grief, my role is to hold space so that it is bearable. Shielding one from the other is no longer an option, for both are integral facets of the cycle of life.

15.01.2022 I love a good project and am so keen on experiencing different aspects of my passion that when the opportunity presented itself yesterday to build a coffin I jumped at it. It helps that a useful bloke I know has some time on his hands now and was keen to join me.#coffinmeme #coffindiy#familyledfunerals#lastexpressions #doulasupport #sacredsendoffs
14.01.2022 One of my favourite parts of caring for families is sharing the time after death. The time where we care for the body and perform family rituals as we prepare for the final farewell. It’s during this time that families gather to prepare their loved one for burial and choose or follow the wishes for the vessel. I absolutely love shrouds, the beautiful rituals that can be performed and the feeling that your wrapping and nurturing that person for the last time. However that’s not for everyone today I came across this stunning woollen option and being the tactile person I am it was love at first sight. 09.01.2022 #mythoughtfortheday #doulabarb #barbalicous #bravenewworlds #corona2020 #language101 So what’s namaste about, it’s about part of my new body language as hugging and handshakes are now deemed dangerous activities. Well that was a quick, easy and painless transformation I found a new way of being and moved forward, then I wondered why that was so easy and other parts of this journey aren’t as easy, so I looked at the language we are using and the body language it’s producing an...d began to reframe it. Homestayer= self isolating, space giving = social distancing there are lots more options play along with me and get our language to help us, also note that smiling is a decreed benefit whilst out on a space giving outing. Our attitude is what we have the most control over at the moment and will ultimately provide us with the most long term benefits. See more

04.01.2022 How excited am I ? Denise, Gary and I have begun planning the 2020 Death Doula tour. Following on from last night’s expressions of interest we now have an indication of where the tour will be heading in the New Year. ... As you are aware I’ll be doing the face to face presentations that will be supported by Denise’s online 10 module course. We see this as great value in that you get not only exposure to different styles of learning but teaching as well. I’m looking forward to revisiting lots of areas of Australia and getting to know some new places meeting lots of people and shining the light on just how important death care, family led funerals and green funerals are in 2020. My experience in miscarriage, still birth and neo natal death both personally and professionally means that I am keen to continue When a baby dies workshops as well so please think about that as we organise tour dates. One last thing that I recognise as Denise’s super skill is her ability to connect people, it’s also a passion of mine, you’ll notice that I’m usually pretty quick of the mark when help is needed. So in order to get to know Denise’s extraordinary network quickly I’m proposing an additional session for those of you who have already studied with Denise or are working doulas. This 3 hour evening session is like a top up, or as one participant in Melbourne recently described a rejuvenation of purpose. It’s also another avenue for new conversations particularly in WA and VIC surrounding Voluntary Assisted Dying laws. How we can support families who are facing this choice. So while I spend my time in beautiful Birregurra preparing for the 2020 Death Doula tour pop your thinking caps on and let me know if there is anything else we can include on this tour
