22.01.2022 We've received word that the coffee van isn't able to make it to our school holiday activities BUT there are still some lovely treats on offer for the kidlets (just BYO caffeine, parents!) - aside from the colouring competition (with the awesome Big Lap Tassie activity books as prizes), rock painting and seed planting we have scored some sweet treats in the form of donuts, apples and kinder surprise eggs for all of our mini participants!

There are only 100 numbers available, $10.00 per number and the prize is an iPad (not this one... it looks cooler than this one!). This is their final fundraising drive for the year, drawn as soon as all numbers are sold.

16.01.2022 We received this message from Volunteering Tas: WE ARE LOOKING FOR LOCAL VOLUNTEERS, MANAGERS OR COORDINATORS IN THE HUON VALLEY REGION TO JOIN A LOCAL VOLUNTEER NETWORK GROUP Volunteering Tasmania is partnering with Huon Valley Council to develop community-based volunteer sustainability strategies to safeguard volunteering in these regions. What does that mean? ... We know that in Tasmania volunteering is the largest sector in the State and we know how much local communities depend on people ‘lending a hand’ locally. Volunteers help our local children, our environments, they provide support during a crisis and they look after our people we need them in our communities. We are currently asking people that live, work and/or volunteer in the Huon Valley local government area to join a Local Volunteer Network Group that will meet on a regular basis to help develop this strategy. You don’t need any specific experience or expertise just bring local volunteer knowledge. We will work with the group over the next six months to build a community strategy for the region. The workshops will draw on your experiences to identify the current challenges of volunteering, how we can address these challenges and what a community-based strategy / framework needs to look like to support volunteering in the region. In this very first session we will explain in more detail what the project is about and what being involved in the group will mean for you. All we ask is that you come along, listen and start sharing your local volunteer experiences with us. There will be refreshments and snacks. This is your opportunity to share your ideas and have your voice heard. 13.01.2022 Our Community Seed Library is off to a flying start! We have curly leaf parsley, paper daisy, giant Russian garlic, Jerusalem artichoke, giant Russian sunflower..., marigold, wild lettuce, sage, tomato and chilli seeds! If you have any spare seeds to contribute, more donations are most welcome. Or if you'd like to boost your garden - pop in and please feel free to take what you can use (gold coin appreciated to put towards sourcing more seeds)! ****We also require 1.25/2L soft drink bottles for storing liquid fertiliser (which will be added to the library) and stock feed bags to bag up some poo! Catherine Wingate has supplied us with some cards which are prints from her original water paintings. You will spot some familiar scenery!

A gold coin donation will go towards stocking the library ...with more locally sourced seeds. Our dear friend Charlie has kick-started the library with some seeds and also some liquid fertiliser. If you have any surplus seeds please consider labelling them and adding them to the library - and of course call in if you would like to take some, too! See more

04.01.2022 Unfortunately, the pool at Port Huon Sports & Aquatic Centre is closed from today until further notice. The air conditioning units that provide filtered air ...in the pool room have broken down, meaning the environment in the pool room is not at the standard required for a safe and pleasant swimming experience. We are waiting on new parts for the air conditioners to arrive, which will take about 12 weeks. We apologise for the inconvenience and aim to reopen the pool ASAP. We will provide another update soon. The remainder of the centre is still open for you to enjoy.
