03.01.2022 LONG POST ALERT: This feels like the culmination of a lifetimes work. Many of our students have been through hell at a very young age, these experiences are the self destruct button that can lead to prison. The research proves song writing and narrative therapy can reprogram this self destruct button. The beat making, the drums looping endlessly, the bass pulsating through the headphones is a huge tool for regulating young people who have been through childhood trauma, we hav...e teachers and psychologists who attend sessions and can bond with the students, assess their needs and witness there thoughts and experiences and vulnerabilities in a safe environment. Hiphop as a tool, as a vehicle for change has unlimited potential. We see literacy and numeracy improve immediately with a 70% increase across the board since Banksia Beats opened. Banksia Beats is an amazing facility its inviting, colourful, modern, hands on, exciting, cutting edge and most importantly fun. In this facility students bonds and trust are built in hours not months and also builds self esteem, self worth and self determination.
