22.01.2022 Just beautiful.. my husband caught both our daughters.. it was such a beautiful moment that he was the first to touch them and pass them to me. Talk to your care providers during pregnancy and/or labour to ask for this option if this is what you desire Shared from @monetnicolebirths The strength and gentleness in all of those hands as dad catches his daughter is just beautiful.
21.01.2022 Such a fun morning @zanawagga .. please go check them out.. such a lovely bunch of girls and great for building fitness in a fun way!

18.01.2022 This weekend I am support crew (running doula ) for my hubby who is running a 24hr run. Our job is to provide him with lots of moral and emotional support, the occasional leg rubs, plenty of water for hydration and water melon and snacks. He has currently been running for 11 and a half hours and has run about 120km. He is aiming to run between 200-240km in that time. Running is just like labour in a way.. the physical sensations are definately strong but it’s very much a mental game. The mind wants to give up plenty of times however there’s that deeper purpose and knowing that pushes you through... oh and a freaking amazing support crew who are there for you and believe in you every step of the way!
18.01.2022 Tonight was my last prenatal yoga class for the next few months. I will be putting my yoga classes and doula support on maternity leave while we birth our new baby @thesourcewagga. Once we have found our groove with our new business I will slowly start welcoming my yoga classes and doula support back and will let you all know when I do! In the meantime please pop over to @mamabewellness and see Tiff for her prenatal yoga, Muma and bubs classes and Hypnobirthing courses! ...And for doula support please pop over and see Shelley at Shelley Wylie Doula Services ! These 2 beautiful women in the pic are both 38 weeks and also about to enter a new transition in their lives in the next few weeks.. please send them lots of strong birthing vibes! I look forward to sharing updates with you all along the way. Thank you for all the support the last 2 years. I’m incredibly grateful for all the friendships I have made along the way and all the families I have supported on their birthing journey x See more
18.01.2022 Oh I love these words! How appalling to have this level of scrutiny - thanks #Repost @2lifedoula You might have seen the news recently that the Duchess of S...ussex (the lady I hold personally responsible for the fact that no one has been able to spell my name correctly for the past 2 years ), has been described as a 'birth brat', which I can only assume is the journalistic birth equivalent to bridezilla.. 'God! What was she asking for?' you might be wondering.. 'Lobster after the birth and a jewel encrusted birth pool?' . Nope. According to the press the Duchess wanted to be able to choose her own healthcare providers, her own place of birth and not be subjected to a photo shoot by the worlds media immediately after giving birth. Oh! Like.. basic human rights then? . The fact that requests like this, or even more specific choices like whether to have examinations or whether to have continous monitoring in labour are seen as 'unusual', or 'being difficult' says a hell of a lot more about our society, women's rights and the narrative around birth than it does about The Duchess of Sussex! . We don't go to the hair dressers and get told- 'well you're turning 40 now so it's time to get a crop style, you have a big forehead so i'm just going to cut you a quick fringe'.. . Why is birth any different? Why is the default expectation that the minute we fall pregnant our bodies become the property of other people. Whether that friends, family or even total strangers expressing their opinions about what we do or eat during pregnancy or our plans for birth.. or during labour itself when it's expected for women to walk into a hospital and say 'ok, get the baby out, do whatever it takes'. . You're not being difficult, or a brat, for having your own thoughts and opinions about what you want for your birth.. from the hundreds of women I've worked with and hundreds more birth stories I've heard, THIS is the single most important part of getting a positive birth experience. Not hypnobirthing, not being in a pool, not where you give birth- but deciding things for YOURSELF and being supported in those decisions Incredible words and #Repost @positivelybirthing
17.01.2022 In spite of the considerable debates and research that have been ongoing for several years, the concept of normality in labour and childbirth is not universal or standardized. There has been a substantial increase over the last two decades in... the application of a range of labour practices to initiate, accelerate, terminate, regulate or monitor the physiological process of labour, with the aim of improving outcomes for women and babies. This increasing medicalization of childbirth processes tends to undermine the woman’s own capability to give birth and negatively impacts her childbirth experience. In addition, the increasing use of labour interventions in the absence of clear indications continues to widen the health equity gap between high- and low-resource settings. This guideline addresses these issues by identifying the most common practices used throughout labour to establish norms of good practice for the conduct of uncomplicated labour and childbirth. It elevates the concept of experience of care as a critical aspect of ensuring high-quality labour and childbirth care and improved woman-centred outcomes, and not just complementary to provision of routine clinical practices. It is relevant to all healthy pregnant women and their babies, and takes into account that childbirth is a physiological process that can be accomplished without complications for the majority of women and babies. 12.01.2022 Shared from @apprenticemidwifecourtney That. Moment. That overwhelming sense of joy and relief, exhaustion and elation. The emergence of baby that rushes in the emergence of mother. Sacred, precious moment of transformation and introduction. Like a beautiful dance that’s been danced millions of times over, but no two dances exactly the same. . : @sashablaneyphotography
12.01.2022 I’ve been very quiet on here due to opening our new business however my doula and beautiful friend Karen sent this through via an email the other day and I hadn’t seen it before! It brought back so many memories and emotions! This was the moment after Evie was born in the water after a very speedy labor with my amazing midwives, doula and husband present. My waters broke at 6pm while I was cooking dinner, after some mild Braxton’s Hicks my contractions started at 7pm and Evie arrived at 8pm! A very short and sweet 2 hours from start to finish!
11.01.2022 And it feels amazing!
11.01.2022 We are getting to the end of World Doula week and I still haven’t shared about my amazing start to World Doula week last weekend. I’m so grateful for not only the company of amazing women but to get to meet and hear from some of my mentors.. people who have guided my learning and inspiration.. Dr Sarah Buckley, @droscarserrallach @rheadempsey_birthingwisdom and Jenny Blyth.. plus many more. And then of course there are my beautiful friends and mentors @fitforbirthnoosa @kin...dred_birth and the lovely Briony from @the_nestingplace who I got to know over the weekend. My cup has been so incredibly full from the connection and wisdom shared with these incredible women who are doing great some amazing things in the birthing world for women and families. And then of course all the families who have invited me into their homes and to be apart of the births of their babies. My role as a doula has brought me sooo much more happiness and joy than I could have ever imagined And last but not least I want to acknowledge @shelleywylie.doulaservices. Knowing I have an amazing back up and someone to bounce knowledge off has been awesome. I’m so freaking grateful for the chance to be able to collaborate and share the doula word with you See more
08.01.2022 POSTNATAL DEPLETION. If your baby is more than a few months old and you're still feeling tired, anxious, depressed, unwell, lethargic, not sleeping, moody or a...nything that just doesn't feel right, I recommend this book which I'm devouring right now. Dr Oscar Serrallach spoke at the doula conference and I realised that so many women I speak to are probably suffering from what he calls Postnatal Depletion. Go to his website, join his facebook group or get the book and I think you'll find answers to your questions. www.oscarserrallach.com.au See more
07.01.2022 Thought it was about time I jumped on here and introduced myself and shared a little about the inspiration behind Milk Mate. Hi I’m Anna, I have my own littl...e cheeky milk mate! His name is Tobias, but we call him Tobi. I started Milk Mate at home in a small rural town in New South Wales during the emotional rollercoaster that is becoming a first-time mum. I had my own struggles with breastfeeding and it was during this very isolating and lonely time that I realised there was not a lot of support but plenty of misinformation getting around. Tobi had a severe lip tie and tongue tie, which made feeding challenging. We battled through his first 12 weeks together until surgery resolved his issue and breastfeeding was finally enjoyable for me. So, after a pretty rough start to my breastfeeding journey, I realised I wanted to provide a community that supports mums through their breastfeeding challenges and successes. I wanted to share the latest scientific and fact-based information around breastfeeding and offer safe, non-toxic and eco-friendly products that makes our journey easier. We are a 100% family run and Australian owned company and our passion for supporting mums comes from our own struggles but also the wonderful successes we have experienced along the way. No matter what your breastfeeding journey is, we are excited to have you as part of our growing Milk Mate community and hope you also share your breastfeeding story, because we’re all mates here . My vision for Milk Mate on the gram and Facebook is a growing social community of mums supporting mums and their little milk mates. Milk Mate supports all mums no matter what their breastfeeding story is. We celebrate successes together and provide support to those feeling challenged, as a community. We want to make sure you are provided with the latest breastfeeding information, as well as tips and tricks from other mums to help you make decisions that best suit your baby. At Milk Mate, we want you to know that you have a choice and a voice, and we want to hear it. We believe that: Every voice counts. Every drop counts. I’m beyond excited you are with me on this journey! Anna x

06.01.2022 What does it mean to have a doula attend your birth? -It means unconditional support. Regardless of whether you want an epidural, a c-section, or to give birth... in a birth tub. Doulas believe that YOU know what's best for your body and your baby. -It means strength. Doulas are some of the strongest people I know. They provide counter-pressure hours. They hold you up when you feel like you can't take one more step. They stand with you, they sway with you, they squat with you. -It means you'll have a cheerleader during every stage and turn your labor takes. "You can do this." "You are doing this." "Your body and your baby are working together." "We are here with you. We aren't leaving you. You are not alone." Doulas get into the trenches. They aren't afraid of tears or vomit or amniotic fluid or placentas. They're willing and eager to leave at 2am. They'll stay beside you even when everyone else is too exhausted to stay awake. They'll walk with you, they'll cry with you, and they'll rejoice you with you when your baby is finally in your arms. Thank you doulas for the job you do. Your presence at our births is priceless. Happy World Doula week. We love you!
