17.01.2022 So...Let's confirm that this is a glorious piece of Welsh Slate, NOT Marble! (as you may have heard in previous videos - we need to share this great history with you) The slate slab was originally in the kitchen of our client's parents' home in Cardiff, South Wales. The house was originally built in 1900 - 1910. The slate was used for storing meat and other food before fridges, as the slate kept the food cold and fresher for longer. It was only removed from the original ho...use a few years ago when it was renovated and shipped over to QLD for its new lease on life. Welsh slate is said to be the best quality in the world because slate deposits in Wales don't have iron pyrites. Slate as exported all over the world from Wales and lots of Australia's grand buildings from the Federation period still have welsh slate roofs! The pressed metal that you see behind the bench was recycled and restored by our clients from an old Queenslander that we renovated a few years back. What a mix in history and how well does it work! We were able to snap a cheeky front-on pic when we were on site with the plumber yesterday. We love this view because it whispers promises of things to ...come. There will be a long view through the front door and, uninterrupted by furnishings, out the fixed glass panel on the back wall! The lads from @dpearceconstructions were also on site digging holes for the front retaining walls of the car space. The unknown gentleman was a specialist brought in to test which chemical will be best to strip the lead paint from the old girl. She won’t know herself once those layers come off and she gets a fresh coat of paint. Meanwhile, on the southern side, the external painting has commenced and it looks amazing!
