20.01.2022 Have you ever wondered what advocacy work ACWW has actually done, or struggled to explain our advocacy to others? We've created this for you. As Women Walk the ...World approaches, and we look toward raising funds for Pennies for Friendship, it is important that we all understand why advocacy is vital for ensuring the sustained impact of all other initiatives, including projects. The success of our projects is directly dependent on impactful, strategic advocacy, because it is through advocacy that we can change the context in which rural women live and work, ensuring long-term, lasting progress. Visit https://www.acww.org.uk/resources_publications.html to download the Advocacy Impact Report (and remember, if you share this post, copy and paste the text!) See more

20.01.2022 The South Australian Country Women's Association Inc (SACWA) is delighted to have been given the opportunity by Foodland SA to recoup some of the funds that wou...ld have been raised at the Adelaide Show this year. Foodland SA, Laucke's Flour Mills, Vili's and Natures Delights have all worked together to support another South Australian icon. SACWA is very appreciative of the funds raised by this initiative and sincerely thanks all involved from the organisations for their hard work and cooperation. I would also like to thank the public who purchased the scones for which SACWA received $1 per pack. Thank you everyone, a wonderful example of supporting our state and local organisations. 20.01.2022 THE SHOW MUST GO ON! @1629SENSA PARTNERS WITH THE ROYAL ADELAIDE SHOW What a privilege that SACWA were chosen to be one of the first groups to be interviewed f...or ‘The Show Must Go On’. Our State President, Roslyn Schumann talked about the SACWAs involvement in The Show and Stirling Branch member Jenny Cormack reminisced about entering the cooking competitions with her award winning sponge cakes and jams. You’ve got an extra year to practice your skills ladies. Show-goers won’t miss the fun and excitement of the iconic Royal Adelaide Show this year thanks to an innovative partnership between #theroyaladelaideshow organisers and radio station 1629 SEN-SA. The partnership will provide an alternative platform to deliver the Show to the people of South Australia via a two-hour daily radio show hosted by Kym Dillon, 12-2pm, Monday 7th Friday 11th September. The dedicated radio show will support the community and local businesses that rely on the Show and include interviews (on-air and video) with Show identities and characters as well as producers of local food, wine, horticulture and agriculture such as entrants in this year’s South Australian Schools’ Merino Wethers Competition one of the traditional and unique agricultural competitions that will still proceed despite COVID. The Royal Adelaide Shows General Manager Michelle Hocking, said she was thrilled to announce the partnership with 1629 SEN-SA. This year we have had to re-imagine how the Show is presented to the families of South Australia who have come to know and love it as a rich part of our cultural fabric, Ms Hocking said. Our partnership with is one of the key ways we will be bringing the Show to life this year, as an extension of #theshowathome digital initiative, which will be live from August 17, she said.

19.01.2022 Throwback Thursday: The CWA of Australia asked each State Association to design and produce a tapestry depicting the first ten years of their State’s history. ...Mrs M Chatterton drew the design for the South Australian panel, Mrs R V Knowles transferred the design on to the canvas and in 1970 work on the canvas commenced. It was a huge task, not completed until 1973, mostly completed by Mrs A D Murdoch. The principal motif is a farming scene at Klemzig, copied from a watercolour by George French Angas. The border includes numerous features of early SA, there is whaling at Encounter Bay, Kapunda copper mine, Glen Osmond tollgate, the overlanders with sheep and cattle and grapes, Sturt Desert Pea and wattle. The tapestry hangs in the meeting room of Mary Walker House at 30 Dequetteville Terrace, Kent Town. Next time you are at State Office, pop up and admire the beautiful workmanship. The last photo shows a tapestry depicting the Eyre Peninsula which was unveiled at the 80th Birthday SACWA Expo and birthday celebrations in Wudinna in June 2009. The tapestry involved 25 Branches on the Eyre Peninsula and took over two years to complete. The tapestry is a map of Eyre Peninsula with icons representing the various towns. The background colour changes as one moves closer to the coast and Port Lincoln and shows birds of the various areas. Farming is vital to all branches as the towns developed around farming. The border displays the many wildflowers to be seen on the Eyre Peninsula. Prue Cook was instrumental in designing and completing the tapestry. @ Adelaide, South Australia

12.01.2022 Throwback Thursday: Today we focus on Mary Walker House. MWH is the administrative and handicrafts hub of the SACWA. The property at 30 Dequetteville Terrace ...was purchased in 1951 and became The Club. Built alongside, MWH was opened by Sir Thomas Playford on August 9th, 1963. The building was named after Mary Walker who retired as Honorary State Secretary after 16 years. The most memorable exhibition ever staged in MWH was during the Festival of Arts in March 1966. Our Patron at the time, Lady Bastyan attended the Exhibition which ran for 17 days. Mary Walker House, at any time of the day and often into the night is a hive of activity. The Handicraft Shop is always busy be that with customers, handicraft meetings or handicraft schools. Our front reception area always has a lovely display of home produced goods be it jams, chutneys or hand knitted blankets and throws or our popular cook books, tea towels, Laucke scone mix and more. Drop by and say hello. See more

A ‘one-stop shop’ is coming to the Cleve Sporting Bodies Club on 23 February to provide support and advice on the drought and other challenges for rural Australia, like COVID-19. The event will bring together all levels of government, charities, not-for-profits and ag organisations to support farmers, farm workers and regional communities living through the immediate and longer-term effects of drought....
