14.01.2022 Many of my obstetric patients are talking about a recent article suggesting that babies born by vaginal delivery are less likely to develop allergies than those born by caesarean section. This is based on a theory that babies acquire most of their intestinal flora by swallowing their mother's vaginal fluid during passage through the birth canal, and this early exposure to microbes shapes the way their immune system develops. Although this is certainly a growing area of interest, more research is required to confirm this relationship and establish evidence-based strategies to reduce the risk of allergic disease.

09.01.2022 Update: NSW health are planning to offer free Pertussis (Whooping cough) vaccines to all pregnant women in the 3rd trimester, in an effort to provide protection to their newborn babies. It is thought that the current Pertussis outbreak in NSW may peak this year, so to all my pregnant patients, please make sure you arrange a vaccination from 28 weeks.

04.01.2022 One my of my good friends from medical school, Dr Andrew Rochford, has launched a new App connecting families with local health professionals across Sydney. It offers access to a variety of health and parenting services from the comfort of your own home. Sleep nurses, lactation consultants, pregnancy massage therapists, personal trainers, physiotherapists all the people you may need at your front door! Let me know what you think so I can provide Andrew with some constructive feedback. http://www.dailytelegraph.com.au//7487a6ec45a15dbf53cfa3f3
