25.01.2022 BreastSurgANZ welcomes Tuesday’s announcement by the National Cabinet on the staged return of elective surgery across the public and private health systems. B...reastSurgANZ supports the gradual opening of breast reconstruction surgery and access to Breastscreen services which ceased during the COVID-19 pandemic, subject to the capacity of local hospital provisions and services, and surgical decisions about a patient's best interests. We are pleased our patients will have access to breast reconstruction services, however this is still a staged approach, starting with 25% capacity. The current trend of reduced COVID-19 levels in Australia and in New Zealand is reassuring for all breast cancer patients, their surgeons and health professionals, as well their extended communities. We hope that breast cancer services can return to normal in the near future with a sustained flattening of COVID. A cautious approach to this challenge continues, however this is a very positive phase.
