21.01.2022 It's strange times for all at the moment! And while it's unclear if those living with diabetes have a greater chance of catching COVID-19, it is known that if they do contract the virus, they are at a heightened risk of having severe illness and needing hospital care. @Diabetesaustralia reports that people with diabetes represent 7% of diagnosed cases of COVID, 17% of hospitalised cases, 24% of ICU stays, and 25% of deaths. So what can you do? We recommend remaining vigilant ...at all times to protect yourself and others by maintaining good hygiene practices, socially distancing, avoiding others who are sick and large public gatherings. But we also want to emphasise the importance of continuing any care regime you have in place with your GP. Make the most of Telehealth services available if you do not feel up to visiting the Practice and ensure your physical and mental health benefits from the support available. Make your next appointment online or by calling the practice. Stay well!

17.01.2022 This week is DonateLife Week 26 July 4 August 2020. A week to raise awareness that the personal decision to become an organ donor can save people’s lives. We want to inspire all Australians to make a real difference to the lives of others by registering and telling their family they want to be a donor. Around 1,700 people are currently waitlisted for a transplant. A further 12,000 people are on dialysis of whom many would benefit from a kidney transplant. One person signing up to the register can save one or more lives from this simple decision. Want to save a life, register today: https://donatelife.gov.au/register-donor-today #DonateLife #DonateLifeWeek #DonateLifeWeek2020

16.01.2022 Six easy tips to help keep our families and communities safe.

16.01.2022 October has arrived and for the whole month, we want you thinking pink! Breast Cancer Awareness month is every October and is aimed at raising awareness of the impact the disease has on thousands of Australian women each day. This year alone, almost 20,000 Australians will be diagnosed with the disease. Tragically, 3,000 women will lose their lives to breast cancer this year. Breast cancer is the second-highest cancer among Australian women, behind skin cancer. Although sur...vival rates continue to improve, we are still losing far too many women to this disease each year. There are a few different organisations out there pushing the plight of awareness of this disease. The National Breast Cancer Foundation aims to reach zero deaths from breast cancer by 2030. Cancer Council drives the Pink Ribbon campaign and is hoping to raise funds for prevention programs, support services and vital cancer research. Using the month to also tie in awareness for gynaecological cancers, the Cancer Council reports that gynaecological cancer and breast cancer diagnoses together, impact 65 Australian women a day. The McGrath Foundation focuses on the FREE provision of qualified McGrath Breast Care Nurses, to support women and their families who are diagnosed with the disease. The McGrath Foundation nurses are an essential part of the medical team managing the care of people with breast cancer and have supported over 90,000 families since their inception in 2005. For the month of October, they ask people to ‘Pink Up’ to raise funds for this worthy cause. Qualitas Health shares this information to help raise awareness, in the hope you spread the word with your mother, sister, aunty, friends and colleagues. To book your Women’s Health Check, make an appointment TODAY either online or by calling the practice. 15.01.2022 21 September is World Alzheimer’s Day which launches us into Dementia action week from now until 27 September. Dementia Australia defines dementia as a collection of symptoms that are caused by disorders affecting the brain. It affects thinking, behaviour and the ability to perform everyday tasks. Brain function is affected enough to interfere with the person’s normal social or working life. Almost half a million Australians have dementia, and close to 1.6 million Australians... are involved in their care. Dementia is the second leading cause of death of Australians and the leading cause of death among Australian females. Alarmingly, it is anticipated that the number of people living with dementia will double in the next 25 years. 07.01.2022 ***There is a vaccine for FLU*** Did you know that the Flu shot provides maximum protection from influenza in the first 3-6 months that follow the jab? As winter is already here now is the time to get your flu shot or even top up your existing protection. Annual vaccination is recommended for all people aged >6 months (unless contraindicated) according to the National Centre for Immunisation Research and Surveillance. And while we’re all virtuously socially distancing in th...e wake of the much more sinister Coronavirus, we are still at risk of catching the flu or passing it on to our loved ones. In fact, both the Flu and Coronavirus affect the respiratory system, which if both were to occur at once would be a significant blow to the body. Build your best defense against flu this winter, book a flu shot for you or your family at our accredited practice. Bookings can be made online or by calling the practice. 02.01.2022 As of 29 July 2020, there have been 15,582 cases of COVID in Australia and a most upsetting toll of 176 deaths. The Australian Government Department of Health has just released its COVID-at-a-glance infographic, and it tells a clear picture of the impact of the pandemic on Australians factually without any of the emotion of course. 2020 and this pandemic hurts and everything is different. All businesses are experiencing some form of impact, and individuals/families feel the... effects in other ways. Across our 31 medical practices in QLD, NSW and VIC we’ve noticed a change in patient numbers and behaviour. But we’re also seeing resilience, kindness and, most importantly, the ability for people and businesses to adapt. It’s incredible what can be achieved with a positive outlook and community support. With the daily number of reported cases now surpassing that of the first wave let’s continue supporting one another, local business and members of the community, in the hope it can get us through another tough round on the health system, societal well-being, and the economy. Stay well; we are #inthistogether https://bddy.me/2P3WVPw #community #healthcare #business #COVID

01.01.2022 *** Men’s Health, it’s time we talk about it*** Around the world, men die on average six years earlier than women, and from mostly preventable reasons. This spurs on the motivation behind Movember, a movement to help men take action to live healthier, happier and longer lives. For the month of November, the campaign raises awareness to Mental Health and Suicide Prevention, Prostate cancer and Testicular cancer. There are several ways both men and women can participate in rais...ing funds and awareness for the cause; it’s not only growing a moustache! The campaign is inclusive in its approach, also promoting the Move for Movember, 60km walk or run to highlight that globally we lose 60 men to suicide each hour. Host a ‘mo-moment’, virtual or in-person to encourage discussion and mateship. Or you can ‘Mo Your Own Way’ and do something extreme, either physically or mentally, such as kick a bad habit. And while raising awareness for a worthwhile cause can be fun and include great comradery, don’t forget to follow through for your own health (or that of your significant other) and have a medical check-up with your GP. Men’s Health checks can include: Skin checks Testicular self-examination Heart health checks Diabetes checks Prostate cancer screening Bowel cancer screening Eye tests Bone density checks Please don’t leave it another year, book an appointment with your GP today! #movember2020 #menshealth
