21.01.2022 Every next level of your life will demand a different you - emotionally, mentally, spiritually and physically. This year has been full of unprecedented events and has no doubt tested many of us - how resilient we are, how creative, resourceful and adaptable we can be, how strong we need to be and what choices we choose to make for ourselves, our families and our livelihoods. And it’s been tough because we have had to make choices rather than accept the status quo and continue... in our comfort zone. Sometimes choosing not to do anything is also a choice because it’s easy - to avoid conflict and disruption - but not necessarily what’s best for the current situation. I though cutting my hair was a bold move, reflecting changes I was making in my life and evolving into a stronger, more purposeful and better me. Physical transformations are only one part of the journey. As a Plastic surgeon I had to stand up and advocate for my patients and that their surgery is just as relevant and important as other specialty procedures. Might not have bought me friends in administration but I needed to stand up for my patients and my belief that plastic surgery is just as life changing as any other surgical craft. As a business owner, like many, I have been forced to be disruptive, take chances and make tough decisions in order to keep our business viable during the challenging times when restrictions and economic hardships limit what we can do. And I believe this required the courage and leadership to do what was right rather than to do what was easy or what wins more fans. I have learnt that there is truth in ‘the courage to be disliked’. And standing up for yourself and fighting for the values that are important to you was reinforced over the weekend when I watched the film about Ruth Bader Ginsberg ‘On the basis of sex’ with my teenage daughter. It was heartwarming and reaffirming to see why we need to stand up for what is right because that’s how we effect positive change, maybe not for our benefit but for others after us. Ginsberg’s courage, strength of resolve, and choosing never to give up gave me inspiration and clarity and encouraged my daughter too.

21.01.2022 Behind the scenes and unfiltered. This was me last night at about midnight leaving the operating theatre whilst doing my small bit as a plastic surgeon on call for emergency trauma - something I love doing because it keeps me involved in teaching and mentoring the junior doctors and trainee surgeons, it fills my cup to know I can contribute to the public health system that trained me, gets me out of making more dresses and doing more planks, and gives me real purpose to be ab...le to help others in a different way to what I do @dranh_medispa and in my private practice and using different skills. And being a specialist plastic surgeon for over 10 years and having trained for 14 years before that, I am still learning and still acquiring new skills and techniques and finessing existing ones for better patient outcomes. What I love about plastic surgery is that the scope of what we have been trained is so broad from microsurgery to hand surgery to breast, lower limb, head and neck reconstruction to skin cancer work to aesthetics and the principles of how we manage so many conditions remain so when faced with challenging cases, we still call upon our foundations and have colleagues and mentors to seeks advice from. So there is so much more to the perceived glam, vanity and dollars of plastic surgery. Behind the scenes is a lot of hard work, challenges, incredibly enduring schedules, sacrificing time with those we love - but it’s worth it when you love what you do. And I take my hat off to my colleagues @plasticsocietyaustralia @asapsau @isapsplasticsurgeons for making a difference everyday in so many different capacities. With only a few weeks til Christmas, let’s make the rest of the year amazing

19.01.2022 Life changing result for this gorgeous young woman who can now feel comfortable, free and confident to live her best life and wear what she wants and enjoy so many things she couldn’t before because her breast asymmetry impacted on her life. Not all breast surgery is cosmetic and it is a privilege to have been able to help this young woman with this breast asymmetry reconstructive surgery. One of the incredible positives of my job is to be able to help people see a more beau...tiful, or more ‘normal’, or more youthful, or a more functional and a more confident vision of themselves they didn’t know was possible. To see or hear of how much their lives are positively changed because of what my amazing team and I do makes all the personal sacrifices and long hours (which can be physically and emotionally draining), worth it. We don’t always get it right and don’t always meet our patients expectations, but we certainly try and do our best. *individual results may vary and all surgery carries risk. #dranh #plasticsurgeon #femaleplasticsurgeon #surgeon #lifechanging #transformations #confidenceisbeautiful #liveyourbestlife #beyourbest #ownit #breastreconstruction #breastasymmetrycorrection #breastsurgery #breastsurgeon #empoweringwomen #beforeandafter #realresults #realwomen

18.01.2022 Tuesday Transformation features the beautiful @rosannesammons who has undergone a massive total transformation physically and mentally. The inspirational part of her story is that this is only the beginning as she is now so much more happy, confident, free and feels empowered to live her best life and help others believe in what she once thought was not possible - to not hate her reflection and to actually look forward to each day. As a plastic surgeon, what we do is more tha...n just the physical change in a patient’s body, it’s how we help them realise their own beauty and then they can believe in themselves and see their worth. What we do as plastic surgeons is so much more than create or promote vanity - a lot of what we do can be life changing, and this is why I love what I do. Of course we don’t always get it right and it is disappointing to not meet patients’ expectations but we know that we do try to set realistic expectations and can only do our best with the tools we have. Ultimately, achieving fantastic results is a partnership and patients too must take some personal responsibility towards getting the most from their surgery. Rosanne came into surgery mentally and physically prepared and this has enabled her to get a good outcome from surgery and to maintain her results. *individual results may vary and all surgery carries risks

16.01.2022 We hold our patients hands in so many way and we take that responsibility incredibly seriously. As a specialist plastic surgeon, I understand how daunting it can be to visit us to discuss a concern and I especially empathise with patients having to share vulnerabilities to a stranger, share what bothers them about their body, how it makes them feel and how it affects their life, and to show someone a part of themself they perhaps don’t like and are embarrassed about. It is m...y responsibility to first do no harm and give my professional opinion based on knowledge, experience, science and clinical judgement. Sometimes it may mean that someone is not a candidate for surgery. Sometimes it may mean they could become a suitable candidate if what needs to be addressed to optimise suitability for surgery is attended to. Sometimes it means having the courage to not be liked because my professional opinion does not sit well with my patient in which case I encourage other professional opinions. Sometimes what a patient wants might not be realistic or too unpredictable or risky to be worth it. For patients who do proceed with surgery, my team and I strive to do our very best with the resources and expertise we have but nothing comes without risks and complications although rare can and do occur and it’s important to know we care about our patients and do everything we can that is possible and achievable to help get the best outcomes. Like my patient today who has had so many complications (life threatening ones) from surgery 7 years ago overseas, she was understandably scared of having reconstructive surgery but this was important for her to move forward and not be reminded every day of the trauma of what happened. Even after she went off to sleep under general anaesthetic, she did not let go of my hand (literally!). So many assume plastic surgery is about vanity, is motivated by $ and ego and what we do as plastic surgeons isn’t valid - I strongly disagree because the physical transformation can be lifechanging, often translating into so much more - self worth, self love, freedom, confidence, joy - and that is so meaningful.

15.01.2022 Only 6 weeks after a breast reduction and abdominoplasty for this gorgeous Perth mother and she is feeling fantastic, excited for what lies ahead already feeling more comfortable in her own skin. **Individual results may vary and swelling and bruising will improve with time. All surgery carries risks.

15.01.2022 Nothing beats cuddles ... especially from children. Here I stole a few from my niece who I still call Princess P, although she now has a name - Stella How we often consume ourselves with problems and lament over what we don’t have, when really, we all have so much to be grateful for, if we look for it... it’s right there. My Christmas break was short, and interrupted by work, but gave me some precious time off from thinking about business and work and responsibilities and m...ore importantly spending it surrounded by innocent laughter and love from children and extended family and friends. We become the sum of the people we spend the most time with so why don’t we spend more time with people we love, those who love us and those who make us laugh, have positive vibes and lift and inspire and empower us to be happier, more fulfilled and better individuals. I’m back to work tomorrow but intend to make the most of every moment with those that matter. Whether you’re back at work or still chilling, make every moment count. - All my love... and baby Stella’s love

13.01.2022 Abdominoplasty transformation for this gorgeous mum who has always been bothered by her tummy. This is the beginning of her journey to enjoying the body she is in and the freedom to wear what she likes without any extra overhang or muffin tops or Spanx type garments. This #dranhangel has always been gorgeous but now she can see it and we love seeing our patients realise their own beauty and shine to live their best life with greater freedom, joy and confidence. Individual results may vary and all surgery carries risks. This is an actual before and 6 weeks after surgery result of my patient and whilst the results are early, we anticipate the scar to improve with time, the swelling to subside and for greater shape and definition to show.

09.01.2022 Empower to me is about many things... but one of the key messages is about stepping into your individual unique power, being happy, comfortable and confident in your own body so you can put your best step forward and help others do the same and really know your worth, be proud of your journey and own it. These past few days I have been on a short break, taking time out to rest, reflect, recharge and think ahead. And I did that spending a lot of time by the ocean breathing in... the fresh air and soaking in some vitamin D (with sunscreen protection of course!) And while I am still working on getting my body more summer and bikini ready for me (training, emsculpt and Emtone), I stepped outside of my comfort zone and was surprised. My dad took this pic without a filter and I am actually a little proud of how far this body has come - imperfectionsx asymmetries, cellulite, extra bits and all. I know I’m not perfect and would secretly dream of the unrealistic model body, and while I criticise myself constantly for bits I don’t like, I also know I’m so much physically stronger and fitter and leaner than I’ve been for most of my life and this body has had 3 babies, gone up and down in weight or 20-30kg each time, it’s fuelled and allowed me to do my job and it is what it is and I shouldn’t need to validate that with myself or anyone. Still a work in progress working on self love and self acceptance and being kind to oneself. People will judge and criticise and hate but sometimes we just have to pause and celebrate how far we have come.

09.01.2022 I have always been someone who just takes everything in her stride, working long hours, surviving on not much sleep and the excitement and passion for what I do keeps me going. I have learnt that no one is invincible and everyone needs a break, time out, self care and self love and help. I was really starting to feel a little stressed recently - not being able to sleep well, having more issues with my neck and back and feeling more flat and down than usual - and it was a cu...lmination of so much going on with the many hats I wear. Thankfully, I was surrounded by such incredible love, loyalty support from those closest to me who forced me to pause, reflect, reorganise my schedule, get my priorities right, improve my health and wellness mind body spirit, and say ‘no’ to what I didn’t need to do, use my time more efficiently and work smarter. And the best advice I was given which was extremely powerful in recent weeks was to not seek compassion or understanding from others, but to give it to yourself. I realised that I need to not be so harsh and critical of myself and give myself a break sometimes because I am no good to anyone broken or deflated or empty. And I also was reminded of the importance of self accountability and responsibility for our own happiness and take ownership of how we feel and how we let others treat us - that we cannot expect others to treat us as we treat them but we are responsible for what we allow and we can choose how we wish to respond. Making changes takes courage and commitment and it’s a process - nothing happens overnight. Sometimes the greatest gift you can give yourself is to be kind to yourself and not let the opinions of others take away from your joy and self worth. Wishing you a happy and meaningful week and don’t forget to give yourself some love, kindness and compassion - you deserve it - we all do. 05.01.2022 Just for fun I thought it would be cool to make gingerbread houses with the kids. While I bought all the ingredients and found a fantastic recipe, I found myself short of time with big operating lists leading into Christmas. Alas I improvised and found these amazing gingerbread house making kits from Big W and it was incredible to see my children aged 14, 9 and 4 really get into the spirit. They concentrated and each managed to make their own gingerbread house, the eldest m...aking it look super easy, the middle one fixated on everything being perfect and the baby eating his icing sugar and everyone else’s lolly decorations. And it looks easier than I thought it would be. Now to taste it for the real verdict. Wishing you a sweet and safe festive season

04.01.2022 #fridayfunny I was doing some embroidery tonight and working on the Empower range in the back of the clinic (as I often do once I finish my surgeries and preparation for tomorrow and want to clear my head) and the cleaner asked me , so do you do sewing for Dr Anh? I smiled at him and replied, yes kind of.... Then he proceeded to ask me if I knew whether Dr Anh does skin treatments for his skin concern. I answered his questions and then he said, For the sewing lady, you do know a bit about skincare. Haha I then told him I am actually a doctor and my name is Anh. I don’t think it registered or he believed me as he said he would ask the male doctor at the front. The man at front reception was the CEO. #thesewinglady #dranh #plasticsurgeon #ilooklikeasurgeon #empowerbydranh #keepingitreal #dranhclinic #dranhmedispa #skinclinic #dranhskincare #multiplehats #behindthescenes #stayhumblehustlehard #workharder #loungewear #activewear #sewing
