22.01.2022 After 10 years of consultation, reviews and negotiations, this news of the defeat of five disallowance motions in the Senate is welcomed by the Professional fishing industry. Thanks to the support of the cross bench senators who upheld their vote in order to achieve the disallowance motions - 29 votes to 36. It is a great achievement for all of industry as well as all the other industry groups who kept up the good fight through consistent messaging & presenting a united voice.... In a joint statement with other ministers, Environment and Energy Minister Josh Frydenberg said, "The plans strike the right balance between conservation, recreation and economic development and are based on a balanced, scientific and evidence-based approach to marine park management." All we want is for certainty for industry and the millions of Australian seafood loving consumers. To any fishers that may have been affected, Seafood Industry Australia have reiterated that they will be taking the lead to ensure an adjustment package is appropriate. Source: WAFIC See more

21.01.2022 The Greens (and Labor) would have you believe there is a fisheries crisis. I won’t tolerate it. Today, the Parliament endorsed the Turnbull Government’s marine park management plans. The management plans are a win for the environment and fishers, as well as plain old common sense.

20.01.2022 Sea Rogue’s first national story. FUI We’re in the process of attempting to line up a screening in Yamba for Charlie’s friends and family in the near future.

18.01.2022 So we’re producing an animation for QSIA and there’s a scene in it about fish/prawn processing. So we asked our artists cartoonists Gary Clark and Craig Mann for example of characters and have to choose just four ideally one from each line. We’d love some help?!? Ps to stay abreast of what we’re up to check out the Millstream Productions FB page.

13.01.2022 Why the Labor party, the Greens and Mr Forrest choose to ignore more than a decade of consultation and scientific research is not something we can understand. ...There are many other indicators pointing out the responsible and sustainable way our fishers work, such as the finding by ABARES that for the fourth consecutive year, no solely Commonwealth-managed fishery was subject to overfishing," Seafood Industry Australia CEO Jane Lovell said. 10.01.2022 The amount of misinformation and in some cases just plain lies being spruiked about the Commonwealth Marine Park network is very disappointing. The facts are; The plans are the result of significant consultation and scientific review. ... They cover 36% all Australian Commonwealth waters, well ahead of the international benchmark (the ‘Aichi target’) of 10% by 2020. Compared to the 2012 draft plans, they protect 40% more ecological features. We have the second largest area of marine protected areas in the world 3.3 million km2. The No take zones will be 20 times the size of Kakadu National Park, or half the NSW landmass. Thanks Jonas Woolford for sharing.

07.01.2022 "He always showed me what to do if the boat flips over... but upside down, everything is different." Yamba fisherman Michael Williams features in the national S...eSafe campaign being launched today in Canberra. The campaign aims to improve safety for the 11,000 people employed in Australia's commercial fishing and aquaculture industries. Mr Williams famously swam for 12 hours to raise the alarm after a trawler he was working on capsized off Byron Bay in 2008. His crewmate John 'JJ' Jarrett survived after clinging to a plastic tub for 30 hours, while skipper Alan 'Charlie' Picton was lost at sea.
