25.01.2022 This adorable whimsical artwork was created by my amazing mentored level 1 student Alison White. This is Alison's final graduating piece for the beginner level and it is her first fully composed totally original artwork. The inspiration for creating this image is very special and I am in awe of how Alison can express her deep emotions through drawing. You can read Alison's story below. I think she really deserves a huge round of applause! Congratulations Alison, on graduatin...g from your full course and all the best as you move into your first year of mentored two. Details about this artwork are:- Paper, Saunders Waterford watercolour hot press Size, 18 x 12.5 ins Media, Coloured pencils (Prismacolor). Ink pens, Faber Castell and Staedtler, Posca acrylic paint pen. Title: Happy Christmas Background:- the title may seem simple but it’s actually loaded with meaning for me. We lost our lovely daughter Miranda to a heart problem six years ago when she was just twenty six. We will always be devastated but are blessed with 26 years of wonderful memories with her. I love whimsical/children’s book illustration and wanted to work in that style to capture some of those precious memories. #saunderswaterford

25.01.2022 Finally chose my colour palette tonight!

25.01.2022 This gorgeous portrait of a 'Isha' from our portraiture section of the DrawPj course was created by my mentored level 1 student Stephen Newman. Stephen has been working hard to perfect the small skills that lead up to the whole skills for drawing. In this drawing we can see the theory of light and shade so beautifully applied. Stephen has successfully captured the 5 major areas of highlight and shadow. he has distributed the 6 levels of tone very well throughout the image and... his pencil techniques are all working together in unity to make this a success! Combine all of these ingredients with a deep commitment to drawing, Stephen clearly has what it takes to create portraits as commissions if he chooses to. Details: Paper: Saunders Waterford Classic Watercolour Paper - Hot pressed 300gsm White. Pencils: Derwent Graphic Fine Art Pencils HB, 2B and 4B and Faber Castell 9000 series 2H, HB, 2B and 4Be #Portraiture #Portraiture #pencilportraitdrawing

24.01.2022 These sweet little woodland animals were drawn by one of my students Norma Mcdonald, from the extra bonuses that I offer from time to time. In these tutorials I show you how to quickly and easily learn how to draw so many animals. If you practice this process often you will soon be able to draw them all from memory. Well done on creating excellent construction drawings with outlines Norma, these are great!... #woodlandanimals #woodlandart

22.01.2022 This beautiful drawing of our 'Tulips in a Tub' exercise was created by Joe Migliaccio who is studying my course self-teach. In this drawing Joe has successfully created the pencil strokes presented to represent the wood texture and the lovely shading in the tulips. This is great drawing, well done Joe! #PencilFlowers #flowerdrawing

22.01.2022 This stunning image of 'Frangipani Dreams' was drawn by one of my mentored Alumni students Gudveig who studied with me many years ago and is now refreshing her skills again. Its great to see you back Gudveig. In this drawing from the bonus section in my course, Gudveig has demonstrated great control over the graphite medium. This takes deep concentration and patience. The application of graphite is very carefully applied with carefully monitored pressure. I admire the deep ...sensitivity of this very peaceful artwork. Well done Gudveig, and thanks for sharing your beautiful drawing with us. #frangipaniflower #flowerdrawing

21.01.2022 Well done to Stella Luzes one of my mentored 1 level students who has just completed this drawing of the 'Shoe Well-travelled' project. This project challenges the student to create several different textures and seek out the major shadow and highlight shapes in the fold of the shoe. There are many tiny details in the stitching and laces that all need to come together to form the whole shoe. An understanding of form is absolutely necessary to be able to do this. The trainin...g process that goes into this level of drawing skill requires a slow steady development of skills - building one small skill upon another, and Stella has succeeded. Well done Stella! This is just the beginning, the only way is up! #shoedrawing #fabricandfolds

19.01.2022 It gives me great pleasure to share this beautiful rendition of our bonus project 'The Holiday' created by Sarah Woodruff who is currently studying the full DrawPj course self-teach. 16.01.2022 In case you wondered how St Cuthberts Mill make their very beautiful paper.

16.01.2022 Looks like we have yet another rising star studying in my mentored one level. Can you believe that this is the very first shaded subject in our course? Ann Petrochko has masterfully shaded this Column Fold. In this drawing she has captured the 3 ways to shade so incredibly well; soft edges, hard edges and gradations. She has also taken good notice of the 5 areas of light and shadow. Well done Ann and thanks for permission to share your image here. #shading #folds #drawfabric #drawfolds

16.01.2022 I am so proud of my mentored 2 level student Linda Elliottt who is now moving up into mentored 3. Linda has created this gorgeous drawing totally independently along the way with her journey through the course. This drawing is an image of her mother. I can see so much love and admiration in this artwork. I really like the depth of tone Linda has achieved here and the photograph must have been challenging to work from too. I can really see the vintage-feel when I look at this image and it captures such a special moment in time. Well done Linda, this is beautiful! #vintageportrait #drawingshading

15.01.2022 This beautiful drawing of a Hybiscus flower under a night sky was created by Lynn Nelson who is currently studying in my mentored 3 level. This drawing is inspired by a tutorial I created in coloured pencil for the SAA magazine and Lynn has used pastel pencils for the first time ever in her version of the image. I am so impressed with her results, the flower is just glowing and she really captured the form here. Well done on great control of the medium here Lynn, I can't wa...it to see your skills with this medium develop further. #pastelflowers #Derwentpastels

15.01.2022 Here's some Saturday evening motivation for you all! Look at this stunning rose created by my mentored level 1 student Karen Piper. This rose is one of the projects in our course and Karen has really added her own finishing touches to her drawing. I really like the tiny details and the way the colours gently transition from one into the other. This is gorgeous Karen, well done! #rose #colouredpencils

15.01.2022 This breathtaking portrait was created by my mentored two level student Robert Wenzel. Titled 'Chris' this artwork demonstrates Robert's excellent ability to seek out and emphasise the important details in his work. Robert is particularly attracted to the intricate details in eyes and so he has chosen a high realism style in the face and eyes then in contrast he has created a subtle blurred background with all remaining elements. ... Well done Robert on another successful artwork! Its great to see this work framed so beautifully too. Robert's drawing skills have reached a professional level and he is able to sell and commission his artworks if he chooses to. #graphiteportrait #portraiture

14.01.2022 This adorable drawing of her cat named Pebbles was created by Michelle Banister. Image on the right side of the image was drawn from her own photograph (left side) after completing my beginner level course self-instructed. In this drawing Michelle has successfully created fur techniques that were taught in the 'hair' sections in our course. She has also created wonderful soft and hard edges throughout this drawing. Her markings and lines are delicate and soft. Great work here Michelle on this adorable cat. #Catdrawing #howtodrawacat

13.01.2022 This excellent drawing of our 'Shining Lighthouse' exercise from the beginner level course shows that Cornelia Urlass (my mentored level 1 student) is doing very well with her pencil strokes. This exercise gives you an opportunity to put into practice the broad pencil stroke and Cornelia did very well here. This is one of the best examples I have seen in a while. The reason it looks so great is because she has demonstrated authority here. Her strokes are confident, neat and the move fluidly throughout the image, uniting each area extremely well. Great work Cornelia, we are sure to see some outstanding future drawings from you too. #penciltechnique #lighthouse

12.01.2022 This beautiful drawing created by my mentored two student Ruth Waite says so much. There are many stories that this tree could share with us I am sure. When I first saw this tree I made and instant connection to the image. In this image Ruth has not only captured the vision of a beautiful tree, she has shared her soul with us. This only happens when someone deeply loves the artwork, puts so much love and attention to it that a very special transition takes place. This is a ...great drawing Ruth and I am so proud of you, well done! Description from the artist Title: Still Strong Medium: Graphite on Canson Fanboy Comic Manga Illustration paper 250 gsm Size: 7 x 9 inches from my own reference photo Description: Though the tree has been battered and scarred by storms, it sill stands strong. It is a source of peace and healing in the park near my home. #treedrawing #graphitetree

09.01.2022 This stunning drawing of 'Misty' was created by my mentored two level student Lynn Nelson. In this drawing Lynn has successfully captured the character of her gorgeous bird. 08.01.2022 This is so beautiful! Stephen Dodds who is in my mentored 1 level, has created the 'Tulips in a Tub' exercise and demonstrates a well-developing understanding of the shading technique with lines and variation. I particularly love the softness in this piece, it shows great care and patience. Great work here Stephen! #tulipsdrawing #flowerdrawings

08.01.2022 Congratulations to Susanne Norling my mentored two level who has just completed her 12 months of mentoring with this stunning portrait 'Irma.' In this portrait Susanne has demonstrated many of the important skills that she has learned during this 12 month period. She studied the fabric and folds in several of her drawings, colour pencil application with temperature and hue, texture and tone to create form. Her use of colour temperature to bring the form forward and help it ...to recede is outstanding. The application of coloured pencil is beautiful, painterly and evenly applied. Most of all I love the very special moment in time that Susanne has captured here. All the very best Susanne as you continue on with your journey of learning to draw.

07.01.2022 This beautiful portrait of Isha from our beginner level course was created by my mentored level 1 student Mary Egan. In this drawing Mary has captured a similar likeness to the model. She has created beautiful soft skin tones, lovely features and a great seater! To draw at this level takes alot of patience, self-confidence and inner-belief to travel from an absolute beginner (just a very short time ago.) Well done Mary, I am so proud of your achievements so far and this sho...ws you have what it takes to go on and create amazing art into the future. Well done! #PortraitDrawing #portrait

There is such a gentle and peaceful look on her face, this reflects the care that Tejaswini has obviously put into creating this stunning portrait. 07.01.2022 This stunning portrait titled 'Kevin' was created by Karen Piper who is currently studying in my mentored 2 level with me. Karen has really captured a great moment on Kevin's face here. 07.01.2022 I really like the expressive quality of this drawing of our shoe by my mentored level 1 student Mac Solomon! Congratulations on graduating from your 'Shading and Form' section of the course Mac! Well done on a great drawing. ... #shoedrawing

06.01.2022 Congratulations to Jeff Craig, my mentored level 1 student who has just graduated from the Shading and Form section of our course and will receive his second certificate in the course. 05.01.2022 This adorable little Mr Andy Snufflewood has been coloured in by Cornelia Urlass, from my course 'Coloured Pencil Drawing Secrets'. I absolutely love the way she has confidently created the fur, paws and feet. The overalls with little tools are great too! You did a really good job here Cornelia. Thanks for permission to share your little Andy. #Cuddleecats #AndyCuddleecat

04.01.2022 Another breathtaking artwork created by my mentored student Stephen Newman. In this column fold Stephen has perfectly captured the rounded form both with his drawing and shading skills. After explaining the value of rounded ends on his ellipes and crisp dark tones in the backgrounds to bring foreground forms forwards (in his first attempt) in the corrections as you see here in the final drawing, it made a dramatic difference to Stephen's Column Fold. This drawing exercise f...rom the course is far more than creating a beautiful artwork. This fold required that Stephen apply the skills and techniques learned from all previous lessons in the entire course to this point. He has demonstrated gradations, soft edges, hard edges, excellent comparison of angles, tones and a good awareness of the 5 major areas of light and shade. This drawing is masterful and I am so proud of your accomplishments Stephen, well done! #fabricfolds #Folds #shadingdrawing

04.01.2022 It's a huge accomplishment for an artist to create a totally original artwork and to graduate from their Complete Online Course at DrawPj. In this beautiful drawing created by my mentored level 1 student Karen Piper I can see moments captured, remembered from a special time and place for her. She shares with us, just a moment into her world. The cobble path speckled with little blades of grass pressing through here and there, with the peaceful pigeons just going about their ...business, pecking at tiny seeds perfectly set this scene for the bicycle as it lazily props against the building. This is a great composition and well thought-out. Well done Karen! Details about this artwork: The title: Roman Holiday The dimensions: 320mm by 240 mm Medium: Coloured pencil and pen on Canson Mi-Teintes Grey Description: Each year the family embark on a cycling holiday in Europe. With the outbreak of COVID-19 this was not possible. I chose to relive the experience through a drawing. I used Pixabay.com for the pigeons and my own photograph for the water trough. #romanholiday

03.01.2022 This beautiful portrait of her husband was created by my mentored level 1 Student Karen Piper after she completed the portraiture section in my course. I really admire the areas that Karen has chosen to leave as delicate and soft. In some places she has used lost and found edges and these are also well-planned. This is a very sensitive charcoal drawing and so well done considering this is only one of the very first few portraits Karen has done. She obviously has alot of natu...ral ability that is being nurtured during the course and gradually blossoming. It's amazing how much realism has been captured, so simply in this portrait although there is such few markings. Great work Karen! #charcoalportrait

03.01.2022 Congratulations to Linda Elliott on graduating from her mentored two level with me. Here is Linda's final graduating artwork - a stunning Dahlia flower.
