22.01.2022 WIND DOWN RITUAL Listen to me when I say, cementing a good wind down ritual before naps and bedtime can really set your little one up for successful sleep. Your babe will seriously thank you for those cues and reminders, giving them the chance to detach from their busy world. It will make putting them down 10 x times easier, I promise! Our nap wind down ritual is:... Nappy change PJs and sleeping bag Top up cuddle on the couch Move to bedroom and turn on the white noise Sign 'humpty dumpty' whilst I drop Teddy into bed (dropping not advised hahaha) Goodnight waves and kisses What's your little ones wind down routine? Tell me in the comments! #sleepconsultant #brisbanesleepconsultant #brisbanesleepspecialist #brisbanesleepcoach #sleepsuccess #winddownritual #bedtimeroutine #bedtimeritual #babysleeptips #toddlersleeptips #toddlersleephelp #helpmybabysleep #brisbanesmallbusinessowner #mumsandbubs #brisbanemumsandbubs #sunshinecoastsleepspecialist #sunshinecoastsleepconsultant

19.01.2022 Client Story Meet Peyton (that smile!!! ) Peyton was 19-months-old when her mum reached out for some help with her sleep. Peyton loved drinking a bottle to fall asleep, whilst mum/dad lay with her for up to an hour whilst she fell asleep both day and night. There were nights where she would wake up at 2am, and stay up for a hour or two. She was also starting her day anywhere from 4am At the time, Peyton's mum was juggling her and their new baby boy (stay tuned for his sle...ep success story!), so she was absolutely exhuasted. Time was just not on their side, so we needed to act fast to get this family their evenings back. Peyton's mum booked in for a '1Hr Phone Consultation with Sleep Plan'. We made changed to Peyton's diet and her day in general. We created some really healthy and sustainable sleep associations for Peyton, so that we could remove the things that were unsubstainable. Night one saw Peyton independently put herself to sleep, with an absolutely delightful 7am sleep in! I won't lie, it took us a couple of weeks to get to the point where it only took her 10 minutes to fall asleep. We had to consistently make changes to naps/awake windows, to find that sweet spot. That's the magic of hiring a sleep consultant! We work alongside each other to find that perfect sleep recipe! To this day, Peyton is still putting herself to sleep within 10 minutes and mum is having to wake her up at 7am! 18.01.2022 SICKNESS AND SLEEP Our little guy has been thrust in and out of head colds for the last few weeks as he grew 6 new teeth! Because his sleep foundations are super solid, the different sleep behaviors that were displayed during sickness, quickly disappeared. Let me tell you, this kid has slept in pitch black without being held or settled by me in 14 months! But during this sickness, he needed his mumma So, what do you do when your babe is sick?... Lower your expectations! Don’t stress about that perfect routine, if your babe is tired, get them down so they can rest. If you are new to sleep training, just press pause for the time being. Sleep is the medicine they so need. I recommend adding 30 mins of sleep onto each nap, as well as an early bedtime. This is just enough to keep the day as similar as possible, without wreaking too much havoc on night sleep. Hold your babe if they need it. Chances are they will wake up crying mid nap/night sleep, due to struggling to breathe through their little blocked nose. Hold them and enjoy it, like I said before, sleep is vital. Up those fluids! Hydration is so essential for a quick recovery. I have doubt your little one will probably loose their appetite for solids. So get creative if offering those vital proteins and carbs. Offer a smoothie with peanut butter, oats, yoghurt, chia seeds etc. Use baby vapor rub and a diffuser for all naps and night sleep. This will help your little clear up whatever is happening inside their tiny chest. Seriously who doesn’t love vapor rub and essential oils?! Like I said, your babe will need you more whilst sick, enjoy it! (I did!) But if their sleep foundations are strong, normal sleep habits will return. If you’re in doubt or really don’t want to intervene too much, just hold your babe to sleep instead of reverting to things like rocking/feeding. #sleepconsultantbrisbane #babysleeptips #sleeptraining #sleeptips #sleepcoach #toddlersleep #sleephelp #momlife #babysleepconsultant #babysleeptips #newbornlife #motherhoodunplugged #newmumsleep #sleepdeprived #infantsleep #sleepconsulting #tiredmama #sicknessandsleep #brisbanemumsgroup #mumclub #tiredmumma

17.01.2022 Has anyone ever told you to keep your babe up late so that they sleep in? DON’T DO IT MUMMA! Simply put, when your little one goes to bed of an evening overtired/past their recommended awake window, they are wired on cortisol (stress hormone). This gives them that second wind to push through bedtime and fight sleep... annoying right ... But it makes no sense right? When you’re tired, you sleep better? Well essentially, when they finally fall asleep in such an overtired state, when they start to cycle in and out of sleep cycles early in the morning (4am-7am), they struggle to stay asleep due to the previous days build up. When uncontrollable and external environmental factors start to interrupt sleep early in the morning, in combination with the naturally increasing levels of Seratonin and natural light sleep phase, it is near impossible for them to ‘sleep in’ coming off the back of being so overtired. Hope this helps #sleepcoach #sleepconsultant #babysleeptraining #sleeptips #sleepbabysleep #sleeptraining #momlife #sleephelp #toddlersleep #baby #babysleeptips #newborn #newmom #parentinghelp #sleepexpert #motherhood101 #sleepcoaching #gentlesleeptraining #overtired #healthysleephabits #sleepbetter #bettersleepforbaby #brisbanesleepconsultant #sleepisunderrated #ineedtosleep #brisbanemumsandbubs #comforters #safesleep

14.01.2022 THE HIERARCHY OF SOOTHING This is such a great visual to understand how to guide your little one in learning to self-soothe. By gradually withdrawing ourselves from all that we can do (feeding to sleep, rocking, patting etc), we can slowly move up the hierarchy of soothing to achieve the final goal, of Self-Settling. There is no right or wrong timeline and pace in which to do so. However, some sleep training techniques will get you there quicker and some will gradually gui...de your little one over a period of time. If you are wanting to achieve that final goal, it is important to continue to move the goalposts and reduce the assistance and intervention. We need to show our babe what the expectation is, to allow them to get there without inconsistent reinforcement. Being consistent and not fluctuating between steps will also keep them on track. 03.01.2022 I’ve just had a baby, don’t expect too much of me. Invite me, but don’t be annoyed if I say no, for days, weeks, months. I’ll come when I can; when we’re ready. If you ask to visit and I hesitate, please take that as a polite ‘no’ (not yet!). But if I’m indecisive, gentle persuasion might be just what I need. ... A quick visit, a cup of tea, talking about the world outside of my cocoon. Company is important, but so too is rest. I might appear to be selfish but I need to be: right now, it’s about me, my baby and my body. If I push myself to please other people, I’ll breakdown in both body and mind. I need time, love, care, nurturing, support, understanding. No negativity, judgement or expectation. I’ve just had a baby LOVE THIS /poem: Pinterest #sleepconsultant #babysleep #sleep #sleeptraining #sleeptips #sleepcoach #toddlersleep #sleephelp #parenting #momlife #babysleepconsultant #babysleeptips #newborn #baby #motherhood #newmom #sleepdeprived #infantsleep #sleepconsulting #tiredmama #sleepexpert #momsofinstagram #family #mumlife #tiredmom #babysleepexpert #boymom #honestmotherhood #mummyblogger #mumexpectations

01.01.2022 Has anyone ever tried to tell you that your baby doesn’t need to sleep much during the day? And that if they sleep too much during the day, they won’t sleep well at night? I know I have! Unfortunately, this advice isn’t completely true. Sure too much sleep can be detrimental, but too little sleep can be just as detrimental! So, if you’re looking to improve your little ones night sleep, you need to ensure that they days are not inadvertently working against them. - If your bab...e is refusing to nap during the day, look at their sleep environment and ensure it’s not stimulating. If you are assisting them in settling/re-settling, be consistent in your technique to ensure your nap expectations are obvious and not working against you. For example, dedicate time to resettle your baby each day, instead of just getting them up if they wake up early from a nap. This will help teach them that it is their nap time! - How much day sleep is your babe getting? Are they sleeping too much during the day, which is taking away from their night sleep? If your baby has eliminated a huge amount of sleep debt during the day, they will have no sleep pressure/drive to sleep come bedtime. This usually results in ‘split’ sleep or as it is commonly known as, ‘3am parties’. - Try and make sure your babe takes all of their long and restorative sleep between the hours of 9am-3pm. Ideally a short, long, short schedule - with any sleep outside of this window just short/bridging/catnaps. If they are taking long restorative sleep within a few hours before bedtime, again, their drive to sleep will be LOW and bedtime will be HARD!
