25.01.2022 Creating your sacred space is EASY. You could have a place in your house or backyard that you allocate as this space, but if you need to set this space up each time you use it (and trust me, as a mum I completely get it!), then I recommend that you set up and pack down each time with INTENTION. By that, I mean be mindfully aware of exactly why you’re setting up this space to connect with yourself and within. Pick an area you can sit comfortably and write in your journal..., with enough room for an altar. The altar could just be a little table or cloth that you place anything on a candle, picture, or object that holds meaning to you, and that you believe brings energy and power to your sacred space. It is R U OK Day, and it made me think of all the beautiful people we are ALL surrounded by - so I just want to remind you all that you are loved no matter what. One of its main purposes is to help us to remember to commit to ourselves, and to remember we aren’t on some sort of stagnating plane of living with to-do lists and tasks to perform. There’s a higher power or energy outside of ourselves that we can connect with maybe its God, heaven, a great spirit, or even mother nature. Being a mum is the greatest gift But I (and so many other women) have had moments when all I felt was 'not worthy' of being the mother of this beautiful little girl. Becoming a mum was exhausting, scary, and one of the most intimate experiences of my life. I'd be saying "I'm okay, I'm fine", but I knew I was F.I.N.E. Frantic, Intense, Neurotic & Emotional. ... Holding a safe space for women and sitting in a circle of pure support carried me. I love being a woman, and I love being a mum - both ignite my soul's purpose. Each moment, good or bad, hard or blissful, is a drop in the ocean. Having a tribe and the tools to keep you afloat when it gets tough is SO invaluable. Got a little story for you that stems from this tip when you create a sacred space, I’d really encourage you to let your household know what this space represents for you, and that it’s YOUR space, no one else’s. So... story time as promised! I lived in a tiny little bungalow with my then 4-year-old daughter, Paige. My sacred space at the time, was a tiny wooden step propped up against the wall which basically belonged to the kitchen, and ...snuggly against the toilet door (charming really, but it worked!). I had my meditation cushion, crystals, and shell necklace, and it was all I needed to feel connected. All little Paige wanted to do was play with the crystals, wear the necklace, and sit on that cushion. Apparently it was the only comfy cushion in the house! I sat Paige down and explained to her as simply as I could that this was my space, these were my things, and that when I sat here it was mummy’s time that I needed so I could be the best mum to her that I could be. When she felt left out, we created her own little space, and she loved it.
